    whats this do?

    • Read the description

Wireless transmission of Audio signals from your PC/Notebook to your Hi-Fi System

      • +7

but what is the connection to the HIFI system? does it emmit an FM signal?
EDIT- i think i get it, it should have an audio out socket?

        • +4

Yeh, the big box will have an audio out, phono or RCA, or both! More pics would've helped…

        • @ryang:
          That's what I was thinking!!!

        • +3

There is one of these on Gumtree, it had an RCA cable.

          http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/browns-plains/audio/dse-2-4gh…

        • So does anyone know if there a 3.5mm headphone jack for me to plug my speaker in the box?

        • +1

          @brick007123:

If it doesn't, just use a 3.5mm stereo socket to RCA adapter.

        • +1

@ssander: haha that Gumtree ad has had 805 visits… the seller will be happy.

  • +2

its do "Wireless transmission of Audio signals"

    • +3

      Its do onefromoz, its do..

  • i wonder if it would work with Onkyo Receivers & PS3 (both has USB ports) or does it need some software/drivers to work…

    • These devices generally use the USB as an audio out, then stream it via that. Unless your receiver and/or PS3 support USB audio, I'd imagine this wouldn't work.

      • thanks mate, i know the onkyo receiver has an accessory I can buy which is a USB wifi adaptor or USB bluetooth adaptor so I wonder if it would work with this…

        • My Onkyo model (515AE) is supposedly fairly picky about what wireless adapter you can use. Managed to get a TP-Link one that uses the same chipset as Onkyo's that works. That said, this model as far as I know only takes a USB dongle to provide internet/network connectivity to the receiver…don't believe it can be used for audio transmission of any sort. Can't see the PS3 working either.

My money would be on it not working between those 2 devices. That said, I'm sure you could get some sort of audio bridge somewhere where both ends terminate in an audio connector compatible with the receiver be it optical or something else.

      • I think the Onkyo receiver is the amplifier and if the big box has audio cables, it should fit.

The USB dongle would look like a USB audio device. Any PC should handle that, but don't know about PS3.

    • Unfortunately there isn't much information available on this. There are no reviews either. But at $5 I will take a gamble. Dicksmith is selling the same for $49 + delivery on their eBay store.

      http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2-4Ghz-USB-Audio-Sender-/261454135590?pt=AU_Television_Accessories&hash=item3cdfe18126

Someone who used it before please let us know.

    • +1

I have used a generic $2 USB sound card on the PS3 before, which worked to an extent. I suspect this will work on the PS3, but perhaps with the same limitations. The limitations I experienced were that it behaved as a communications device so only chat audio was output to the speaker out on the USB device.

      • I just want to say that PS3 audio with headset = fail

When you have a headset connected they only output other people speaking to it, not game audio as well which means you can't hear both at the same time.

    • +1

You are not using your receiver anywhere near its full potential if you connect this device.

  • +3

Note, it's 2.4Ghz and is not using some nice defined standard. Upshot is, this will splurg noise all over your Wifi/Bluetooth signals. Even if it doesn't annoy you, it'll annoy someone nearby.

Get something on a different frequency, or that can work with standards. Hell, it's USB - so get a Bluetooth solution instead.

    • +1

this will splurg noise all over your Wifi/Bluetooth signals.

Not if you're running your own stuff on 5Ghz! ;)

Even if it doesn't annoy you, it'll annoy someone nearby.

Yeah, Sorry to my neighbours for the extra 2.4Ghz interference!!!

    • Agreed. You'll be much better off with something like this.

This is a fail device. No review and none of buyer. That's why the price drops down.

    • -1

Fail or not, can't go wrong for $5.

      • +14

you should send me $5 .. you can't go wrong.

        • +9

Send me your bank details and your banking password. I'll transfer it.

        • +3

          @varunsic:

Sure thing! My password is hunter2.

        • +1

@soupiejr: You missed the part where i asked about bank details.

        • +1

          @soupiejr:

That comes up as ******* for me.

        • -6

MOD! There is a suspicious activity here!
          Please do something.

        • +4

@tg: Do you want $5 as well?

        • @varunsic:
I'd rather get negative votes than $5.
          It's easier.

    • +3

The price drops down because they either; have too many in stock; are not selling; are discontinued!!!
Nothing to do with not having any reviews!!!

      • +1

Well, not really. Personally, I wouldn't buy this based on the complete lack of information. If it had a review with some more details, I'd be more inclined to buy it. So the 2 are somewhat linked. ;)

        • +2

Well it's not gonna get a review if you don't buy one first to review it!!!
Edit: I'll do you a deal… When I get mine, I'll test it out and let you know. Then if you like the sound of it, you can go out and buy one for $49!

        • @Snoop:

          Sold! :P

  • Great find, thanks! This should be a good cheap arse way to get Spotify playing in both halves of the house.

    • +16

cheaper than joining the house back together again.

  • Thanks OP. Bought.

  • Yep got one for me as well. Thanks OP

  • I don't use my pc/laptop anymore. Would be good if it was a Bluetooth speaker then I can play music from my phone. Seems like a good deal though but I'll pass this time.

  • Just bought one for click and collect - now will check out the detail to find out what it is, what it does and whether I need one?! ;)

  • +2

This is amazingly handy- no more 3.5mm audio cables going everywhere! Thanks OP

  • Wonder if you can beam to multiple of these with the single usb, then you can have 5.1, 7.1, even 10.1

    • Was wondering the same thing! Probably not…

  • Bought one. Thanks OP.
Hopefully I will be able to get rid of PC speakers, and use TV's sound bar.

edit: looks like I accidentally clicked "-". How do I change it?

    • click the "+"

      • It does not allow me to click "+" now.

        • Revoke your vote in the votes tab at the top of the page. However, you can not change to positive.

        • Click on the votes above, find yours and press "revoke". It will take away the neg since you can't +ve it anymore.

        • +2

Then you have to say something negative

        • @neil:
          OK, done.
          Thanks.

  • Great find OP. At $5, I'll give it a try.

  • Giving it a try, hope it has linux drivers.

Edit: Seems only available via delivery in Melbourne.

    • -1

It does not work like that :), you search if it has a Linux driver and if it does not you buy the one that costs 100$ and you know it does. Life it too short to try to make something dubious on Linux (or maybe it is just me).

  • I don't see any stocks in VIC.

    • Camberwell, Mentone, further down… Mornington, Rosebud still do!!!

    • I got one from springvale and brandon park had stock as well.

      Edit: Only Mentone has stock

  • No stock most places.

This is what we use to play music in our store. It's hooked up to a display computer which plays music off Spotify via the USB device supplied, and it then transmits that signal to the receiver which is plugged into our Hi-Fi system. The receiver is connected by a Stereo RCA to 3.5mm Audio cable which occupies the AUX input in the Hi-Fi.

It works pretty well, the distance is about 30 meters between the computer and the Hi-Fi which is in the office.

    • Will the wireless signal harm our bodies & brains?

      • the body works at 2.6GHz and the brain can sometimes reach amazing speeds of 3.8GHz. As this device is 2.4GHz you should be well within safe limits. It is recommended that you don't dance around in front of it however as it can sometimes jump a couple of hertz or even hire and possibly singe your eyebrows.

      • +2

Will the wireless signal harm our bodies & brains?

Not if you wear your tin foil hat it won't!!!

    • +1

      Is this within Spotify's T&C?

      • every now and then it drops out for an ad break.

  • I have had it for couple of years. It's good but only give stereo output similar to Chromecast so I just end up plugging HDMI

  • +2

DSE always has some odd stuff with their old brand, which I don't know what they are for, how they works and whether I need them.

Same with this one, I bought it anyway.

  • It needs a USB port so it works for PC only?

    • +1

Not sure why a USB device would need a USB port to operate?

  • Cool, thanks. : )

  • Cheers OP :)

  • Could come in handy for the raspberry pi(XBMC radio channels etc..)

    Thanks

  • +1

Seems to be no stock in SA.

    • +1

Just picked up mine at Holiwood Plaza DSE. U may try arndale store or elizabeth store

  • +2

here's why they decrease in popularity in home use,

    • desktop users would have decent 2.1 to 5.1 speaker set ups or invest in decent headphones
    • laptop users are declining in favor of tablets and smartphones, the USB transmitter would not work with these
    • most hi-fi system owners try to include HTPC, which would have enabled them to stream music, movies, documents from their desktop
  • +2

Most Android Tablets and Smart phones now come with USB OTG functionality. So, I reckon, with a 1$ OTG cable, this might work with most Androids.

  • Any idea regarding Linux / Raspberry pi support? Also, how would you know what channel its using on the 2.4ghz spectrum? Or is it just all over the place?

  • Out of stock :(

    • It's still up for Click & Collect?

      • I don't know is it? If I wanted to know I might even click the link and take a look meself.

        • I'd already purchased it before commenting, it was meant to be a full stop :)

  • I ended up purchasing one in store. Doesn't seem to work with a macbook air. Does anyone know how to get this working?

    • figured it out! I'm the man

      • Actually I'm not the man, i can't seem to adjust volume on mac

        • I picked one up today. I am also using a macbook. It sure outputs sound but the sound quality is too bad and distorted. Do u know the fix ?

        • +2

          @kaz8743:dont use a macbook? lol

  • The pivotal question - has it cleaned audio like external DAC are supposed to
(eg Behringer UCA202, worth >30.00) or is it junk/gimmick not worth perusal?

While page still displays online anyone get it 9.95 delivered.

    • +1

While page still displays online anyone get it 9.95 delivered.

NO, this is OzBargain… I'm saving myself the $4.95 and going to pick it up!!! ;)

    • +1

lol - a good device doesn't "clean audio".

A good device doesn't tamper with the signal at all.

    • …judging by impressions here gadget appeared to give distortion /sNR- levels within 'audible range' (when our ears pickup more than mere signal); unlike the reference I posited convert for unsullied sound…Ho-hum I guess while another 9.00 saved.

  • I just got my Gen 1 Apple Airport Express working to stream music to my home theatre and was looking for another for my Mancave - then I saw this device which pretty much does the same thing. Unless you want to go to Echuca, there are none around here or Melbourne for Click and Collect

    • Not that this helps you, but there are stiil some a little out of Melb at Greensborough, Fountain Gate, Mornington & Rosebud!!!

  • +1

Gave this a crack last night with my netbook and an old hifi system, and also on a set of powered PC speakers.

Got it working on both with minimal effort, but the distortion is unbearable (due to the 2.4GHz band I'm assuming?).

Might pass it on to the brother-in-law to have a play…

    • The Logitech Z323 speakers I tried this with produced awful quality as well. However, I then tried it on a Sony HiFi system and the sound produced was significantly better (similar to wired).

      Beats me.

  • I bought a bluetooth audio sender for my laptop (around $5 off ebay), and while it works fine, it really screws up your wifi connection. Couldn't stream any show over wifi without the picture showing compression artifacts every 30 seconds.

So unless your wifi is on 5ghz, don't buy this.

  • Dick, how can you sell this garbage with a clear conscience?

BTW, WTF does "Ultra Clear Stereo Sound" mean ? - this is a transmitter - not a set of speakers - it does not produce sound at all. Furthermore, it is 100% guaranteed to have degraded the signal than it received at its input.

Pure pond scum marketing. Even at $5.

Apologies, i just can not stand dishonest marketing phrases from major companies

    • BTW, WTF does "Pure pond scum marketing" mean ? this is advertised product - not a small body of water - it does not contain liquids at all. Furthermore, it is 100% guaranteed to be undrinkable water than it had poured at it's input :P

But seriously, as soon as you go wireless you have compromised signal quality anyway. Most will simply read that as "I'm a stereo device, I don't do surround sound and I don't mix into a single channel either".

  • Got this going effortlessly on my dad's laptop, he seems pleased with it, our wifi is b/g and there didn't seem to be any degaradation.

Can't get it to run on my adroid box, though, any suggestions? I'm thinking it probably won't be possible without compiling some drivers from scratch but I'd love to be proven wrong.

It's detecting a USB audio device because it stops putting out audio through the HDMI, but I'm guessing it's not detecting the transmitter.

  • Arrived this arvo and tested it on my microserver via mpd. It worked on the first go. OS is Arch Linux. So I'm pretty sure Windows and Mac would work without any hassle. I didn't have any problems using it with two WAPs and a Belkin Screencast at home.
