Get Rdio Web + Phone Unlimited Music Streaming for $1.83/Month

1480

Basically this is a hack that will allow you to purchase your subscription at the Philippine's pricing. After being pissed off at paying $2/month more than the US per month I found out this method. You can choose what to pay by using a different country.

Step 1: Signup to Rdio
Step 2: Install hola.org free
Step 3: Set country to Indonesia (Thanks to sunilkimm) or Philippines.
Step 4: Go to subscribe and it will show you the price in that country. For me it was 99 Pesos. https://i.imgur.com/Mw89lh4.png
Step 5: Subscribe. (I used it on a Debit card, make sure you select Philippines/Indonesia and use a random postcode) DO NOT SET COUNTRY TO AUSTRALIA AT ANY STAGE!

Optional: Use it in conjunction with a spare tiny debit card account. I used it with my Ing Direct free $50.

You won't need to use Hola again whilst playing the music as the Rdio pricing locks in since people travel overseas everyday and they can't randomly change the price.

    Isn't 99 pesos $8 AUD?

oops, looks like im calculating Mexican pesos. Sorry OP

Awesome deal. Unfortunately, I'm picky when it comes to sounds quality - Rdio's bitrate is 192 kbps, while everyone else's (Spotify, Google's All Access etc) is 320 kbps.

192 kbps is not terrible by any means, and most people may not even tell the difference, but as far as I'm concerned it just doesn't cut it for a paid subscription.

  • Superb! My wife already has a subscription, what can she do? Unsubscribe and sign back up?

    • Maybe she can test removing her payment details, change countries and continue from Step 2 of my instructions. I tested this with a new account and will install the desktop version and it should rip my version off Itunes.

  • If I put paypal, after i log in it shows up as "Due Now $21.59". Did that happen for you?

    • +1

I used a debit card but I'd recommend double checking your hola.org config. Otherwise it may be a paypal issue because it has your address.

  • OP you are awesome thankyou.
Have you tried this method with say spotify?

    • I have not but I imagine it could well be the same. Maybe organise with the commenter below to trial a test.

      • +1

I just tried and you cannot not use a debit card for a different country from the philippines i.e NAB card or ING.
i didnt try paypal but it has your address.

im still happy with $2.42 for rdio

  • +2

Would this trick work for Spotify? They charge 129 php/month…

    • +1

      Quite possibly, have a try.

    • +2

I would like to know this aswell.

    • Make sure you get the plan that allows international travel.

    • Any luck?

  • +2

soooo slow when i switch to Philippines

    • +5

once you sign up turn Hola off im streaming right now perfectly fine and i have a bad connection.

    • must say i was scared clicking it when it was 99Pesos :(

    • Too many ozbargainers. You can always try another proxy or country. There may be a cheaper one. Here are all the places you can test: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rdio#Availability

      • i got through, and thanks for the find ;)

  • Still showing $11.99. What am I doing wrong?

    • Did you ever input that you were from Australia? Is your Hola set to Philippines?

  • You have to click on the hola chrome extension, and then type in rdio.com and proceed from there.

  • Ibthought paying $70 for Deezer for a year was good. This is great.

  • Can this process be done on the phone or do you have to do it from a computer?

    • Potentially but you'd have to config a VPN and it would be a huge hassle. Would be much easier to do it on a desktop.

      • Thanks. I'll try it on the PC when I get home.

      • Rather than having to config a VPN if you are on Android you can just download Hola from the play store and use that

  • +1

when i click on purchase just gets stuck on loading screen ? #ozbargained?

    • +1

doubt it, it's a music streaming service it should be able to handle millions of people.
hola on the other hand was getting slow when i used it before.

    • same with me…

    • same with me… [2]

      • +1

Best thing would be to use another country on hola, find another proxy or just wait a bit.

  • Hmm yeah don't think you can use cards from AU cause I can't pay either. Plus hola is bumming the connection down to a crawl.

    • I used my NAB card just fine.
heres a tip when entering your card details leave the country as phili not australia your card will still work and you get the cheap price other wise it changes to AU priceing.

    • 28 Degrees CC worked fine.

  • Since the functionality offered supposedly differs from country to country, can anyone who has just started using it notice any differences to the Australian service??? (apart from the price, obviously)

    • +2

no difference dude and after i suscribed i changed my country back to Australia.

    • +1

Different top charts and recommendations. Not a huge issue as you can just add all the songs.

    • Thanks for the prompt answers guys :-)

They say on their blog that it will only work with Chromecast for the 12 countries as follows: Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, the U.K. and the U.S.

Can anyone shed any light as to whether signing up in the Philippines affects this?

      • +2

Ill get back to you i have a cromecast lol one moment

        • Thanks again holden93 :-)

        • +2

@oz-dave: Yeah it's working for me from my PC to my chromecast. i dont see anywhere on the android app the cast button.

        • @holden93:

Ok thanks, PC to Chromecast is probably good enough for me - but you should see the cast button according to this

        • +2

@oz-dave: i forgot to install chromecast after i unrooted my nexus 5 lol just tried and it's all working perfectly.

        • @holden93:

Perfect - thanks for all your effort - I'm sold ;-)

      • Well there would be no price saving because they are all wealthy OECD countries.

  • what's the normal price?

    • $11.99/month

    • +13

facepalm You sent an email to Rdio to ask why you were charged normal pricing? You probably used paypal/creditcard with country set to Australia. Ya dun goof'd.

      • +1

way to kick a man while he's down :(

        • +4

I thank him for his new country recommendation though. :P

  • +2

Just signed up using my commonwealth debit card, through Indonesia, which is still cheaper than the Philipines.

Did the family double for AUD 3.29, already charged :)

Just make sure you set the country to Indonesia in the end. Postal code ex: 80361

  • is it worth it for $2?

  • -4

Nice bargain but I'll be sticking to my Pandora One unlimited skips, no region locking and high quality because it's free.

Yes they fail that much that they can't even lock down a 100% server based subscription service and I can get it for free. I know this kind of post (involving piracy/patching apps etc) often brings neg votes so have at it but how much difference is there really between doing this and paying from another country?

  • +3

I'm stuck with MOG :( - The cost of bandwidth means that its cheaper to Pay for MOG and smaller Data Plan, than it is with this deal and a larger data plan.

    (MOG is Unmetered).

    • I really feel you there, I listen on the road to an iPod and really want to get into streaming, especially at this price but the data usage on a 12 hour day would be hideous!

      • You could use the offline mode and play saved playlists, no?

    • +1

Hanging for the Beats Music changeover

  • Worked here, no problems. Using Indonesia. thanks OP and sunilkimm.

  • found other way guys use flyvpn free trial just signed up :) had problems with hola. $1.83 with Indonesian ip

  • I signed up through Indonesia and saved a couple of cents a month. However I'm being ass blasted by region locking :(

  • I wonder if this could be a problem in 30 days time?

"Can I travel abroad with Rdio?
Paying subscribers … can use Rdio on the web and mobile devices while traveling abroad. Rdio’s mobile apps need to connect with our servers at least once every 30 days."

    • Pretty sure they're just referring to the mobile app's need to come online every 30 days for its offline music playback mode to work. Not the payment server. Correct me if I'm wrong though.

      • +1

I think you're right because the mobile offline music needs to make sure you're still a paying customer.

    • Even if it wasn't just for validating your offline music library to a paying account, why would this be a problem in 30 days? VPNs will still exist then, right?

      • Yes, you can always login again using the same country.

  • I've just started my trial on rdio and I also just paid via Philippine vpn. But I won't be charged until 2 weeks from now, does this mean I'm paying the 99 pesos or australian rdio amount?

    • when i signed up it was on an account ive previously used so it charged me the $2.42 right away

  • Great Post machej…
Not sure it will continue, but looks good in the short term

  • +2

    Thanks OP.

BTW, this works with Deezer as well, if you change the country to Malaysia… the price is currently 7.45 MYR ($2.50 AUD), which is 50% of the Australian sale price …

    • I think i'll go with Malaysia since I still have my card! :)

    • It is showing RM14.90 for me, not sure how you got 7.45? :(

      Oh deezer! My bad!

  • Hola for Indonesia is running slow to. Will try later.

    • Try changing the Hola server, I got on after changing 3-4 times… bit hit and miss

  • Ugh. I wish I'd seen this earlier! I finally gave in and started a $11.99/m subscription this morning.

    • cancle and do this that way you will pay $2 from now on each month.

      • That's the plan for first thing tomorrow. I was umming and ahhing over $11.99 but $2 is a no brainer!

  • It's showing up as Rpc20,000.00 a month - is this even correct?

    • Not sure what RPC is. Should be in pesos or IDR.

    • Yeah. It's Rp, not Rpc. Indonesian Rupiah. 20,000 of them = $1.83AUD.

EDIT: It's taking ages for the 'Payment Method' section to load. Anyone got a fix? Already tried Hola switching and FlyVPN.

EDIT2: Got it working, just took even more switching with Hola. Haha I didn't read the thread fully, so at first I added Paypal as a billing source. It came up at 20,000 Rp but then switched to $11.99 at the last second! Crapped myself because I was about to click it. So I went to PayPal and cancelled the billing agreement, added the credit card as suggested (with Indonesian country status and fake postcode). Then I was able to select the two billing options. When I clicked 'Pay with Paypal' it came up as '11.99AUD' and when I clicked 'Pay with Credit Card', it came up as 20,000 Rp ($1.83). Haha >90% off… Thanks! Gonna give it a whirl tomorrow :)

Meanwhile at Rdio HQ: YES! Our Indonesian/Philippines ad campaigns are finally taking off.

  • $1.83 debited.

Actually it's not a new bargain to buy service/product. Long time ago people on steam trying so hard to cheat the server that they are actually from Russia, since price there are always more than 50% cheaper. (We are always badly ripped-off, aren't we)

I've heard rumor that on steam your account will be suspended if proxy-purchase detected. Will see if Rdio do the same.

    • +6

If they are entitled to use the cheap call center in India we are allowed to enjoy the low price in Indonesia

  • Just signed up, paid and mobile streaming isn't working for me.. Anyone have the same issue?

    • same for me. I've even downloaded songs and it is not playing. Is this an Android app issue or Rdio is chasing this up?

      • I even ran the app through Hola. Signed out, activated Hola and tunnelled via Indonesia, signed in. Nothing. Doesn't work. Also tried downloading songs to phone. Doesn't work. Only reason I would use this service is for mobile streaming.

        • Same. Mobile service is essential for me. I am trying to play with Spotify instead and see if can sign a Philipines account

        • Let me know how that pans out. Edit:someone below said it didn't.
