    What's the catch?

    • Possibly this …….?

9.During the promotion period, MediaRing will make reasonable efforts to complete calls but cannot guarantee that all calls will be connected

7.To make sure that everyone has an opportunity to benefit from this promotion, each call is limited to 10 minutes.

      • Actually, the promotion has been extended to an unknown date and since then mediaring has opened it's bandwidth, so there should be no connection problems. 10 minute calls are still the limitations.

        Voice quality is great!!

        • Thanks for signing up from the USA just to provide that info.

  • Waiting for someone to tell me what the catch is also!

    Voice quality sucks.

    Good for prank calls ;)

  • I have been using it for nearly a month and there is no catch. The voice quality is fantastic if you have a good headset and discern broadband. The only downside is the call duration is 10 minutes and you get disconnected automatically. But what to you expect for FOC(free of charge). At least I still get connected when I dailed the same number again.

This is a promotion and only a month left to make free phone call to all your family and friends overseas or interstate and local.

  • I'm putting the landline number in but it keeps saying 'your call could not be connected, please try again later (error 502). And it always has always has +61 before the number. Any ideas?

Okay, it can be a bit tricky here. Let say you want to ring the number 9100 1234 in Victoria, first you select the Australia country flag, followed by keying the number 391001234. When it start dailing, you will the number +61391001234 displayed.
Please let me know if you still difficulty.

      • I'm dialling from Sydney .. why must I put in the number 3 before the number? And just tried it with the 3 infront, still not working. Your help is much appreicated. Please let me know if you can help :)

        • because when you call from overseas you don't use the (03) for VIC.

so try it as +61-3-9xxx xxxx (the 9xxx xxxx being your local number)

          • @zenger: Tried putting the number 2 instead of 3 and it worked. Coolio.

Seems like an affiliate link is used instead of www.mediaringtalk.com.
GOOD ITS BEEN CHANGED FROM EARLIER.
    The link was https://talkmember.mediaringtalk.com/mytalk/register_tag3.ph… earlier.

The website doesn't show in the rate section free calls from Australia to the UK (so NOT free).
"Fixed (landline) only: United Kingdom, Taiwan and Australia"
Well when I checked there was a charge, maybe its free from the UK to Australia, but it showed various rates from Australia to the UK, none were 0.00 or listed as being free.

I note that the deal has been changed to now show the Terms & Conditions: Free Calls Promotion. It wasn't called a promotion when first posted, even though people asked what's the catch, it just had about free calls, nothing about for only being for a month or for 10 minutes per call, or even that they will charge for countries listed as being free.

  • can you use a standard voip phone with them I have checked the site and there is no mention of sip settings.
They did mention nokia phones and I know some nokias can be setup for voip.

  • It is a real deal. But the mediaring talk program stayed on top while in use and it has advertisement flashing like a christmas tree light. Quality of the sound is no where near other voip provider.

    • Not worth a positive vote?

    • I give a negative vote because now they have my registration detail and the call quality is unusable. It is only good for prank calls as one frozensolid stated.

  • well, seems nothing to do with my ATA box, so I'll stick with pennytel as usual.

  • One thing I hate about the site is that it gives out that annoying "are you sure you want to leave" message when you're closing the site.
