  • i dont get it. so if your laptop only plays dvds, can you install this and put a bluray disc in and it will work?

Yeh exactly how it works. It's great

      • Wrong. If your laptop only has a DVD drive there's no way that it will play a blu-ray disc. Completely different lens technology. Although it will play DVD movies through the software if a DVD drive is present.

    • Umm?

If you have a Blu ray drive,
This software will play Blu rays……

Most pc's don't have FREE or bundled Blu ray software

If you have a DVD drive, you can play DVD's….

Software won't change your hardware's fundamental limitations, otherwise we would all be installing software on our CRT TV's to upgrade them to display 1080p.

      • 1080p? Why not upgrade them to 4K since anything is possible ;-)

  • if you have a blu-ray drive you can play blu-ray discs. Otherwise you can only play dvds
    Cheers

    DVD discs = red laser
    Blu-ray discs = blue laser
DVD drives can't read Blu-ray discs, even if you have the software you won't play the movie.

  • It's a software application that can play your Blu-ray Discs. Macs don't play blu ray standard, ie they don't support films. I just bought an ASUS blu ray player/burner and couldn't find a free app so I'll try this one and give feedback.

    • Looking forward to your feedback.

Ok. So I downloaded three Blu Ray apps for Mac over the last fews days, Free Mac Blu-Ray Player/Aiseesoft Mac Blu-ray Player, both owned by same people, and Aurora Mac Blu Ray. They have trials periods but costs around $29-50 to unlock and the free Aiseesoft player didn't seem to register the films to play so became useless to me, full of ads too.

So i just had a go getting this app. Straight forward download and register using the code they email to you. Seems you have to be connected to the internet to get the disc to play. The other apps i tested were the same to begin with but seemed like once you connected initially you could play the disc without a connection.

Took a while for the Blu Ray to play, you click on the thumbnail in the main menu and after about 1-2 minutes it will play (internet connection required).

From what I know it is easier to backup Blu Ray using MakeMKV and then using Handbrake to turn it into a .mp4 Apple format for iOs devices and Apple TV. You can get full HD Blu Ray films down to around 3GB files and use iTunes to play them instead.

        • clarky,
how you played blu ray disc on Mac with this software?
i downloaded it and registration all done, but the moment i put the blu ray disc into my Mac, it ejects itself.

        • @ymklau: oh you do realise you need a physical blu ray drive right? You can't put a Blu-ray Disc into you dvd/SuperDrive as it won't work, the discs are two different things all together, like a CD vs a DVD. I suggest one of these, cheapest I found :

I would be wary after reading this:
    http://www.makemkv.com/forum2/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=1514.

The Leawo blue ray ripper is a re-skinned Makemkv. Doesn't sound like an ethical company.

  • Sorry OP, only Neg so others will realise about this Crapware.
FYI,I installed this from a previous FREE offers and it work fine as a dvd/bluray player for a while then it started to come up with error something along ""sorry player have to close ….new software upgrade……sounds dodgy and so I uninstalled it, why….because New software upgrade means you will have to pay if you want to continue using it as part of the T&C ….so IMHO it is a scam ware, so beware.
Definitely agree with the ChiefAJ this is not an ethical company I would not touch this with a ten foot pole and I do not work for any softaware or any form of industry related company.

    • Every Leawo freebie has similar issues, and a similarly evasive publisher. I think they should be banned from OzB.
