  • Got one from Melb (Eliz St) and it is locked. Just checked the IMEI on the vodafone website and it costs $75 to unlock now ($50 new phone fee + $50 service fee - $25 on line discount). Drops to $25 6 months after activation if doing it online.

  • all officeworks have been notified of the product differences. they will not price match anymore

  • What color is the 630 if ordered online?

    • +1

I believe all the Vodafone Nokia 630s are black, mine was.

  • People, please post the website and price if you successfully manage to unlock your Nokia 630 for the benefit of others. Thanks.

Might wait till free shipping Friday before I order. Save a few $$$$

    • Want to hope they don't sell out but then, it's a great price

    • its onlly $4 shipping. not too bad to have to wait.

      • +2

The wait was worth it. Saved $4.95 on postage and $15 off the original price. $19.95 saving!

  • Does anyone knows the method without paying money to Vodafone to unlock this mobile?

    • +2

Vodafone packing didn't mention the colour, so might be all black.

  • one dumb question - i am with Vodafone India. Can I use this network locked 630 there?

  • Small but annoying - the "Buy Any Unlocked Mobile and get a bonus $40 Vodafone starter pack" is actually get a bonus $40 Vodafone starter pack for $1. The add made it seem like it would be free. Only a $1 but annoying for being misleading.

Note jb hifi will match the vita offer.
Btw the vita is in the catalogue but deal doesnt show up on website plus jb offer different bundles.
I posted this deal but mods killed it.
I wont bother posting deals in future.

      You can't post price matches

Well we got our 630 yesterday, very fast shipping by DSE.

The phone we got was black, and yes, the phone is locked to vodafone.

I tried unlocking by eBay'er eUnlockers (link in a previous post here) but he said the IMEI was not in his database, so not unlockable! He sent a full refund straight away.

Yeah, so our next plan is to get my partner's mum to go to a vodafone shop and ask them to unlock the phone so she can use it for a trip to NZ next week. She's been with vodafone for at least 10 years and she's not planing on selling it and will be using it when she gets back on vodafone so hoping they would do this service for a little old lady :)

  • The question in that case is this still preety cheap with the extra $75 unlocking or a Moto e or maybe g?
I like the idea of a WP as I get annoyed with apps not working and random lag spikes on android, but it is a jump into the unknown.

    • I would personally get another WP without hesitation (got a 520 for my partner and the 630 for her mum). I would never got back to a cheap android (samsung galaxy something). Probably not a fair comparison, but I prefer the WP layout and easy of use (large tiles that slide vertically), not the android icons and flipping pages. Although I use an iPhone and happy with iOS, weird.

    • With the drop to $84 for the Lumia 630, I have ordered one.
Now I just have to get used to a new OS :)

  • +2

bought one for 84 with code "GIFT4DAD"

  • A couple of quick points on the 630.

    Performance & Battery Life
The Windows Phone OS provides a smooth user experience and better battery life compared to Android running on the same hardware. This is proven with the HTC One M8 running Windows Phone using the same hardware but with longer battery life.

It's a great second phone. A great phone for kids. A great phone to pass the time between the smashed iPhone or Galaxy screen and your coming renewal date (at which time the wonders of Windows Phone may have you thinking about switching platforms).

  • Note: This is still an absolutely great price at $99 (with free delivery)

Also if your on any Vodafone MVNO you would not need to unlock. This has been confirmed with Lebara (see comment above) and should be the same with the other Voda providers below.

  • more importantly do you get to chose color for the Nokia 630 or does it come black only?

  • We get an unlock code for our 630 from vodafone.com.au/unlock but it doesn't work! When we enter it in the first time it says invalid code and the number of attempts counter drops from 10 to 9. We enter the code in again and it then says SIM error, but the counter stays at 9. I googled a bit and there are other people who had similar issues. There's a youtube video (8_jHOgn72rI) with the problem on a 520. Both resolved their issue by getting another/correct code.

We were on the phone with vodafone for about an hour trying to get this fixed but looks like we'll have to go into a vodafone store. Bit of a drama to get a phone unlocked!

    • Unlock code cost $75? ouch :O

      • Makes a cheap unlocked Lumia 630 even with that. Still waiting for mine as I bought on Friday for $84.

  • is the lumia lumia 630 for $99 locked? Can I use a vodafone sim on it?

    • It is locked to Vodafone :) so yes you can use it without unlocking but it does need a micro sim card, if you have a mini sim you should be able to drop into a Vodafone shop and pick one up and have your old sim data transfered.

      • Not worth the trouble getting data transfer if you ask me just get a sim adapter.

        • It takes micro sim. An adapter would only work if you had a nano sim.

          http://www.myhow2.net/wp/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/iphone_S…

It actually includes some sort of vodafone sim card, prepaid I guess.

        • Some tips:

It also takes microSD cards for memory/storage. You can load photos, music and most apps onto it to leave space on the limited internal memory for other stuff. Handy if you plan on using the camera a lot or downloading lots of apps and music.

You pretty much can't use the phone as intended without a microsoft account. If you have an xbox you can link accounts and even get achievement points from playing games on the phone.

It can sync contacts from your gmail account which is a time saver. It also syncs gmail calendar. I think facebook does something similar but we haven't tried that out.

  • Phone arrived yesterday (black), screen protectors arrived today, could not wait for replacement micro sim to arrive so cut my old one down, unlocking via Vodafone was straight forward.

    • for $75?

      • Yes unfortunately :( but still a lot cheaper than buying a local market 630 unlocked.

    • We're still having trouble unlocking ours. Vodafone are now saying the code is from Nokia so they can't provide another code. They've asked us to check the IMEI but I'm pretty sure it's correct. Will check it when I get home.

Did you use/activate the SIM card that came with the phone?

Did your code work the first time?

Did you enter in your code by putting in a non-vodafone SIM or use the ##7820# method?

Is your unlock code 20 digits?

      • I checked with the *#06# to confirm the IMEI matched the box.

No I threw the Voda sim in the bin.

        Activated 1st time.

I put my Virgin sim in and then just keyed in the number.

        Yes 20 digits.

        Good luck.

        • Thanks, it turns out I was correct for once, the original code we got from the online unlock tool was incorrect! They sent us an email with the new correct code and it worked first go!

Can someone advise of a good music player app? The default one is absolutely terrible, mind you I'm finding most of windows phone os to be pretty bad.

    • +1

      Maybe look at these? http://www.wpcentral.com/top-five-windows-phone-apps-music-f…

I am finding the exact opposite, every app I have downloaded has worked and load correctly unlike Android.
The only odd ball thing I have found is if you want to use an MP3 as a ringtone it has to be copied from your computer to the ringtones folder, it can't be copied from a folder in the phone or it won't show up.
Very happy with WP so far

      • +1

I want to like it, and I do like the tiles front page, but the app list gets too long and unmanageable (even after I uninstalled everything I could). I also found the settings menu to to simply be a jumble of text with no order or grouping. Everything I have tried has done exactly what it claimed to do (ie functioned correctly) except none of it does anywhere near what I want. There are so many basic things that are simply not there. Coming from iOS and Android, Windows OS just seems primitive, and not in a good way.

I want to play MP3s on my phone, that is all I want to do. Xbox Music in this regard is crap. I swapped muSD cards that had different libraries; turns out it doesn't like that and now I have 1000+ dead links to files that don't exist. Everytime it comes across one it chucks a 8007003 error. Why oh why is there no 'rescan library' option? Or if there is one, why is it so hard to find? >:(

I've tried looking for an alternative but (just like those suggestions above) they are all streaming apps or music downloaders. Apps on the app store is disappointing too, and finding a good app (rather than some add filled spammy junk) seems very hard.

Sorry about the rant and nobody should take this to heart. I've only been using it for ~2 days now and hopefully I'll adjust or resolve the issues I have with this software.

        • Oh, and whether the sound comes out of the speaker or headphone is unpredictable.
