Just wondering how does 4g ram supports up to android 20?

    • +4

      Very poorly, I would guess.

i have the a15 5g 4g ram…I brought it for the micro usb and 3.5mm jack…It runs games quite well though im not that much into games. There is lag between applications and if i have podcasts running in the background while having another app on, after about 2 minutes the podcast will stop playing due to lack of memory. It will not play HEVC/x265 media files ..as it just stutters but the normal mp4/mkv files its fine..Its fine for my main daily use use as a mp3/movie and text/calls/reddit/youtube etc… I dont notice the lag between applications etc as used to it but people who have flagship phones state its quite obvious.

      • The A15 5G has USB-C. These phones haven't had micro USB since the Samsung A10

        • +2

sorry meant i got it for the microSD card slot

All 3 of the Samsung Galaxy A16 stutter and glitch like crazy (two for my work and one for a family member) I purchased them for $349 when they came out.. :) Samsung cant give these things away they are so bad.
I have a very old Samsung galaxy S7 from years ago. It feels like I'm using a brand new phone running silky smooth.
It could be something Samsung did or the new android but somethings seriously wrong with this phone. It lags just opening a menu to change settings or brows the net.. :) once the app or game is open its fine though so its usable and fast due to new CPU. "you can see it runs games great in the reviews" shame for multitasking and general use its not the best

Anyone buying a cheap phone should maybe look at a Motorola

Hand in your OzB membership. $349!!!

        • Work paid for them and so did family member.. They refused anything but Samsung and noting refurbished

Not sure what the point of 6 years of updates is if the hardware won't really be usable. 4GB RAM isn't good now and it definitely won't be better in 6 years

    • 4GB works fine for basic users who this phone is targeted at and is normal for phones in this budget sub $200 range. Most people don't use the same phone for 6+ years.

For the people negging, feel free to share any deals to OzBargain for new phones under $200 with 6 or 8GB RAM and long software updates instead of hiding behind your screens with no reasoning.

      • Then what's the point of 6 years of updates??? Barely a selling point if the phone can't handle the OS by then.

        • -3

If the phone can't handle it, companies wouldn't advertise it. Do you think Samsung would release updates without testing that stop a phone from functioning 😂

You're clearly not a basic user that this phone is targeted to. Thanks for the negs

          • +2

@shxhshzhz: Helio G99 is already a 3 year old low end SOC… No way it can push another 6 years. Basic users should just spend the extra money on a Motorola G85 or something.

            • @maimai: The G85 is ~$260 on sale across the year which is at least $80 more. This budget phone is for people on a budget who don't need to spend extra and need basic features like calls and browsing. How many people do you expect to use a G85 for 6 years?

            @shxhshzhz:

Do you think Samsung would release updates without testing that stop a phone from functioning 😂

Yes, actually. Samsung released One UI 7 for the S24 Ultra a month ago and had to roll it back because some users couldn't log into their phones.
More generally, Samsung will absolutely either release bloated software that the phone won't be able to run in 6 years, or release an 'update' that doesn't add anything meaningful.

The latter part is already being done by Google: with the Google Pixel 8; its 8gb of ram compared to the 12 that the 8 pro got is limiting it in terms of software. Specifically, the pixel 8 will not be able to run some versions of Gemini on device, despite them all receiving the same update.

To answer your broader point, yes this phone is targeted towards the most basic of users. It's an OK phone for that purpose. But there is no point of advertising this thing with 6 years of software updates because it will not be able to run it, or those updates will not actually add anything. You would be better off getting a more powerful phone with a 4 year update promise.

      • This was the only cheapie Android I reckon was worth buying with ebay plus

they don't normally own a wallet

    • Seems like you notice the bmw tags and the expensive phones 😂😂🤡

      • It is for BMW drivers' profiles not their cars' prices.

    • Phones on the table look all the same, so I don't think it's that. More simply, some have great salaries and different priorities from others

      • -1

Try to infer what is being said not the phones looks. He! some people have great salaries! This forum very tiring!

        • You really ought to take a rest from it then.

          Win/win.

  • 200 grams, dang… why are phones so heavy these days? My Pixel 5 is 150g (and I reckon even that's heavy). Why can't they make a light weight entry level phone?

    • Entry level phones have much larger screens than the Pixel 5.

    • +1

They do but then people start: oh not 5g, oh not nfc, oh not oled screen, oh only 4gb ram, oh curved screen omg

      • They do but then people start: oh not 5g, oh not nfc, oh not oled screen, oh only 4gb ram, oh curved screen omg

Pixel 5 has 5G, NFC, OLED, and 8GB of RAM.

    • The Pixel phone is a extremely small phone.

These devices are junk. My elderly folks were conned to get these as part of their mobile contact and they are junk. Slow, clunky, overheat.

    • +2

Could be used as a hotspot

      • Overheating hotspot wont work well

I don't know about the A16, but I got the A15 last year as a basic 5g phone for calls and text messages. I thought it can't be that bad, but I was wrong. The A15 is sloooow by any standard. Just lags at everything. It's a pain to use and should not have been produced and sold in my opinion. It's a landfill material from new.
