Let see if DSE screws up and lots of people get 2. Essentially $17 each. Can't top that.

  • Can someone share their favourite apps for streaming local content from android/apple devices to chromecast ?

    • +5

      Android: allcast
      PC/Mac: videostream

    • +1

I use Plex for pc works well, and apparently it supports the most formats also free to use via PC but cost for android/iPhone

    • +1

      I use localcast for android.
      PC: videostream

    Page is 404ing :(

  • Thanks for this. Been holding off for an under $40 deal.

Ever since getting amazon fire TV mine doesn't get used. Even though the fire TV is $100, its just so much better for my needs. The difference in speed to stream something like Netflix is like night and day compared to Chromecast or apple TV. Chromecast is great value, but its still lacking in refinement. I suppose one reason google decided to bring out android TV.

    • what else does the amazon fire TV do?

  • Gone:(

  • Bugga missed it!

  • Damn missed out

  • i have the apple tv which i seldom use, is there anything the apple tv cant do that chromecast can?

    • Similar beasts mate. Google search for good comparison reviews. Similar specs, but suited to different purposes based on where all your media is and whether you are tied down to iTunes because of other apple devices in the house.

I prefer chromecast, but a sleek apple remote is nice add on with AppleTV. Then again, chromecast is basically hidden in the back of the tv… No cables, no boxes, very neat install.

      • Or try a Roku Streaming stick, about $60 landed from Amazon. Comes with remote and more expanded App support.

        • +1

          what does the roku do?

        • @hardya:
Streaming platform, all your premium web streaming content as well as plex for your home streaming. Google it, pretty hand, I got mine this week and it's going well.

    That was fast o.o

  • Still have not received mine from 4 weeks ago. Dick's customer service is terrible also.

    • Chargeback through your bank

Ozbargain is turning into advertising for Chromecast … and Eneloops

    • … and CREE torches

      • -2

I can honestly say, I have never seen a post for a cree torch, dont know what one is ;-) This was the first time I was going to bite on the chrome cast, but too late.

        • Don't forget the Woodworm umbrellas lol

  • I got a Windows laptop that I connect by HDMI to the TV. Would love to cut the cable and have the laptop sitting on the coffee table and cast to the TV via a Chromecast. I would use for catch-up TV websites with Chrome browser. How smooth does it work, and is resolution diminished?

    • had the same setup. used a laptop for viewing on tv. since i got a chromecast a few weeks ago the laptop hasnt beeen on

      • I bought a LG smart TV to watch youtube. Waste of money compared to this $35 device. This does everything 10 times better than the smart tv and much more convenient than having a laptop connected.

        • Yes, these things have their place.

But one thing you can't beat a conventional laptop/computer is how fast you can type on a keyboard!!
I have a smart TV also, and the thing that put me off was using the remote to put in the web url, letter by letter. Even searching google became a pain in the ass.

          $200 HTPC + Logitech wireless kb/mouse = win.

        • +1

Agree about wanting a full physical keyboard when surfing. But what about this setup - laptop, casting chromecast to TV? That way you have a full keyboard and the laptop is free to roam elsewhere if needed.

As long as it works well would be a great solution.

Cheers for the above replies. I will definitely give one a go next sale - which appear to be quite regular with dickies.

  • I was waiting for this to come on special again as I needed a second one for the other room… but missed it :(

  • This plus plex is a winner in my book. Turning my 7 years old tv into smart tv the only downside is having to turn on plex media server to trancode most of my movies

  • Got this last time for $34, but can't get 5.1 stereo working with Netflix for some reason. :-(

  • I think I've (just) missed every single deal for these things…

  • FYI https://www.catchoftheday.com.au/product/belkin-screencast-t… is still available if anyone wants WiDi.

    • Note that, the CotD product only works with Intel Widi devices, is $49.95 before shipping …

probably better to get a full price Chromecast, for most people, which is also $49 before shipping (or wait for another sale)

      • +1

No, it's still available at $45.32 delivered. How long for I know not.
