my last 'market value' experience was terrible. chewy and stringy and downgraded it to the mincer and even than it struggled to pass through.

It annoys me when supermarkets buy substandard quality and sell it off on 'special' when $12 per kilo for the quality is actual normal.

None the less thanks for posting as I have a BBQ this weekend and the boys can't tell the difference between scotch fillet and chuck steak.

I bought Porterhouse Steak from WW for $12kg a few weeks ago and it was great.

      • Agree. I buy this all the time (or the rump at $10 per kilo) and I have never had any quality problems.

    • I agree. Stopped buying WW porterhouse and rump steak a while back, because its a bit of hit and miss and I was buying only the MSA graded meats. Others here are saying that the market grade is OK for them. Well I'm fussy and don't like 'chewy' meat.

This indicates to me that WW graded MSA meats are border line and hence hit/miss. Note that MSA has a grading score and WW will proudly display 'MSA graded' on the packaged meats you buy, but WW never displays the grading score. Why?

Younger grain feed meat is not only 'tender' but has a far superior flavor all things being equal. Australians have been conditioned with 'older' type meats over many years because the growers can not export it as it does not meet the standards required by overseas countries/importers, so we end up with the leftover 'market' grades which should be only be put through the mincer or sold for half what we are paying for at the moment.

      • For me grass fed meat is the most flavoursome however I take your point re age.

      • spot on about us getting the "older" types of meat in WW and Coles, IGA, Aldi….

My woolworths online is showing the special for rump instead of porterhouse. I'm WA based. Similar pricing

  • what, they dont sell steak as per Kg anymore?

  • The amount of times they change the price of Porterhouse at WW to say that its half price or on special is crazy

  • Meat Deal is State specific! (as usual)
This Porterhouse shows $23/kg, MSA Porterhouse is $20, MSA T-bone $15 in Brissie. Chockies are same price.

The only steak I can afford as a student.

I am confused. I thought that MSA was their higher grade meat and Market Value was their lower grade meat. But this is MSA and Market Value in one!!??

    • I thought the term for lower grade meat was budget or economy rather than market value?

    • I checked my local Woolies in Eastwood NSW. It has MSA Porterhouse Steak for $26.99 kg, and Market Value Porterhouse Steak for $12.99 kg.

No turning back for any meat on the BBQ for me now….

  • Is this confirmed

  • What are the prices in SA?

    • And perfect for our new BBQs!

      • Okay just looked at the catalogue.
SA have T-bone steak for $14.99 kg. Think we are getting ripped off here!

        • Yes, the rump in WA is $12.99 and no bone!

  • a couple of months ago our WW in Qld sold MSA porterhouse on sale for $13…the last time I bought Market Value from WW at this price of $12 for porterhouse..it was chewy….
