Just be warned that the Nexus 6 is most likely going to be announced within 2 months.

    • +3

      Might down to $299.

      • -2

The number indicates display size. I doubt they're planning to release a 7" phone.

        • +4

Yeah, no. The number represents the edition of the phone. Nexus 4 was the 4th edition of the Nexus series. Nexus 5 is the 5th edition of the Nexus series. Rumours say it will either be named Nexus 5(2014), Nexus 6 or Nexus X(which sounds pretty cool)

        • +5

          Nexus One
          Nexus S
          Galaxy Nexus
          Nexus 4
          Nexus 5
          ?

        • -2

So the Nexus 7 was the 7th edition of their tablet? No, it was a 7" device. The new Nexus 7 was also a 7" device. It's based on display size now.

        • +1

          @18:

The number represents the edition of the phone

What about the Nexus 7 and 10?

        • @tonyamazing:
Supposedly the "Nexus X", as the "Nexus 6" name is already taken:
          http://online.wsj.com/articles/SB100014240527487034365045746…

And after that, my guess is that they'd move on with the Android Silver series as announced earlier. There were rumors that this Nexus wasn't supposed to hit the markets, it probably will be the last one of the series.

        • +1

@zelda707: Don't worry, these guys have an unhealthy objection to interpretations other than their own.

Nexus 4 = 4.7" phone, truncated to 4 (no sane marketer wants a decimal in the model name)
          Nexus 5 = 5" phone
          Nexus 7 = 7" tablet
          Nexus 7 (2014) = 7" tablet
          Nexus 10 = 10" tablet

They started this naming scheme after the inconsistency of letting OEMs dictate the name (e.g. Galaxy Nexus). The entire point was to make it easier for consumers to differentiate between the devices by the model name.

They may very well break this naming scheme if they release a 6" device due to copyright concerns (Blade Runner trademark).

          @Cyb3rGlitch:
lol are you serious kid? So im guessing the Nexus One was a 1 inch phone? It's like talking to a 3 year old. Unhealthy? Well sorry that I dont agree with your stupid logic.

        • @18: the above only applies from the Nexus 7 (2012) when they streamlined their device naming

        • -3

the above only applies from the Nexus 7 (2012) when they streamlined their device naming

Nexus 4 (announced in 2012) was a 4.7 inch phone
Nexus 5 (announced in 2013) was a 4.95 inch phone

phone, truncated to 4 (no sane marketer wants a decimal in the model name)

Thus, both of the devices should have been named Nexus 4 (2013) and Nexus 4 (2014) by using your stupid logic.

        • -1

@18: its close enough to 5"

Then explain the naming of Nexus 10 and 7

        • -1

          @zelda707:

5 inches? Will your girlfriend be happy with that..?

        • -1

@18: still waiting on the explanation for the Nexus 7 and 10…

        • @zelda707:

don't know where your getting the part where I talk about the Nexus 7 and 10.. but suree budddy

        • @18:

I'm not going to get into a massive argument with you, this already sums everything up.

What I'm saying is that your edition/generation logic doesn't work with the Nexus 7 and 10, they are not the 7th or 10th generation Nexus devices.

        • @zelda707:

your one doesnt work either as I stated before, Nexus 4 has a 4.7 inch screen, Nexus 5 has a 4.95. If you remove the decimals, they should both be Nexus 4's.

        • +1

@18: The Nexus 5 screen is generally regarded as 5 inch and Google advertises it as a 5" display

        • @zelda707:

          where does it say that?

        • @18:

It's on Google Play, about halfway down. Most reviews also call it a 5" screen

Speed and power to spare on a stunning 5” display.

But in the technical specs they list it as 4.95"

        • @zelda707:
false advertising. nup. demanding a refund. Jokes, yeah but I think you're right man. my bad.

    • +5

I'm waiting with baited breath for the announcement.

      • +3

They release it with android L. So probably November. It'll probably have Qhd and s805.

        • +1

I hope the build quality is better as well.

        • +7

          @dafatha:

Honestly nothing wrong with the build quality of the nexus 4 or 5.

The issue has always been the camera and battery life.

        • +1

          @inose:

Sorry dident mean to downvote i was meaning to upvote , anyway i agree with you the camera problem also has to do a bit with the software.

        • +4

          @inose:
          The issue is no SdCard

        • @inose: exactly, now they better fix camera and battery this time round

      • I can't wait to get rid of my s3 for it wooooooooooo

      • No you're not, you're waiting with bated breath.

  • White Version for $6.80 more. should add to OP

some links to the other phones would be nice, the $340 oneplusone http://www.ebay.com.au/itm//321464630953?_trksid=p2053399.m2…

    • +3

She is simply pointing out the other phones already listed on ozbargain

  • +1

As above poster mentioned, Nexus X is going to come out fairly soon from all accounts - this would have been a great price 2 mths ago (I jumped on it for my dad when kogan had it for $320 months ago) but maybe not as much now.

  • This or lg g2?

    • this one

    • +1

      but G2 got a better camera,right?

      • Yes, G2 better camera and battery life.

        [EBAY 15% off] LG G2 D802 4G LTE (32GB) $346 @ DWI
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/161280

It makes so confusing now to decide looking at the price drop of Nexus 5, LG G2, OnePlus.

        • +1

yep me too, really cant decide now, bet once iphone 6 is out this friday, all these phones will drop further and we should wait for another super 15%-20% ebay sunday …

      • +5

LG are terrible at OS support on their own phones

        http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2014/08/the-state-of-android-…

So if L ever gets the the G2, it's probably going to be well after everyone else has it. In contrast Nexus devices obviously get it first.

    • +1

      G2. I have a G2 and it is amazing!

  • +10

    Just ignore me.

  • +3

Is it sad that I can buy 3 Nexus 5's for the price of one iPhone 6?

    • +11

What's sadder is people actually buy the latter.

      • +17

        I almost shed a tear.

      • Rich people don't care.

    • +2

and you'll have triple the battery life ;)

    Not exactly glowing.

    • +1

Sometimes the counter-claims of DWI seem justified.
Like requiring an item to be returned before a refund is offered for a fault.
However problems possibly stem from being so large a company and no-one taking responsibility with urgency at DWI.
Also more employees in the income-generating area out of the business and less in the customer service area.

  • Sold out?

  • Nexus 5 vs Oneplus One? The only thing that Nexus 5 is better in terms of Optical Image Stabilisation. Anyone who has used Oneplus One please give me advice on the battery, how is it?

  • Since i don't know what im doing, what's the most reliable phone for Skype to home phone, or Skype to normal mobile, calls? Im on Prepay Amaysim (optus netw), so prefer unlocked.

    • +1

Nexus 5 is the best bang for your $$

  • Description says expedited delivery from outside AU.
Then it says delivery from within Australia.
    Which is true?
Only asking to see if GST invoice is available hence TRS

  • Sorry for asking a question that is possibly very obvious to everyone else but is the Nexus 5 you purchase directly from the Google store also considered to be a LG Nexus 5 ?

    • Yep, it's the same thing.

    • yeah because LG manufactures the Nexus 5 for Google.

  • 2nd hand Nexus 5 phones were going on ebay for this price last week, almost bid $350 on a 32GB model. Ended up getting myself a 16GB new phone instead. Thanks OP.

  • wow

  • The Nexus 5 I bought for my partner (upgrade from Nexus 4) arrived and is virtually DOA. It worked for about 24 hrs but with issues with turning on - now it won't turn on at all.

How are DWI when it comes to returns? Warranty? Took a gamble on the Nexus 5 being trouble-free and looks like I lost, unfortunately.

    • Ouch. Bought one of these from DWI too and it's ok so far.

      • OK, good to hear. Must have just been my bad luck then. Did a quick google and read a number of similar reports where people can't turn on their Nexus 5 - the Google screen just keeps flashing. But unfortunately now it's a total brick :( Hope DWI prove sufficiently easy to deal with!
