  • 15% ebay sunday come again quick!!

      ? its still running….

  • Note that these have 100mbps Ethernet only, and one slot for RAM

    • It says 4GB x 2.

    • +1

Didn't believe it until I looked up the tech specs (which Dell have gone out of their way to hide). Incredible they would pull this sort of nonsense to literally save a few cents.

    • lol running fast ethernet what the f.

The resolution is a turn off too. It's pretty much standard 1080 at this price these days.

      • +5

Please post a link on ebay.

Fast ethernet, yes, gigabit is common at this price point - it's just a ploy to save cents.

But a full HD screen on a laptop at this price point with these specs? I'd love to know where you're getting these prices.

Even if the price is tempting i would never touch a Inspiron again. Xps and Latitude always but Inspiron…

    • +1

why is this? does it have to do with overheating or cheap parts? I've never owned one myself.

      • +1

They are in general not as well built as the higher end units (latitude, xps). Not as reliable. Only thing going for them is the price

        • Of course every brands are the same.

      • I'll never forget the octagonal power charger on those inspiron 15 …

    • +2

i managed to type this whole sentence on one!

    • +2

My inspiron is still going strong at 7 years old.

  • 1TB 5400 rpm SATA Hard Drive

Think these are the downsides to a laptop like this

    • A little $60-70 mSATA SSD (keeping the 1TB HDD) would bring it up to speed cheaply, if it weren't for the fact Dell has been pretty slack about mSATA support even on their most recent models. Can be a pain trying to find out whether a particular model has a slot, and if it does, to confirm it's usable.

still not full HD screen at this price?

  • would be nice if it came in a smaller display size.

  • Any more thoughts on this laptop, I am in the market. It is either this Dell or Asus F552EP from officeworks (A6-5200, 4Gb, 750GB) $658 (before ebay discount) http://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/asus-f552ep-1…
Additional $40 for the extra 4GB of RAM. Processors appear to be equivilant (from my noob searches). Only the HDD size (of little concern to my son) but I do see the benefits in the additional RAm on the graphics card.
Main usage, minecraft and internet surfing/streaming.

    • sorry to hijack this thread but the specs of this Dell are appealing.
    • Bought the Dell. Thanks OP.

  • I am in the market for a basic laptop around $500 would be great. Not sure how this one compares or if there is a better bargain somewhere else.

  • Deal is over; the seller ended it after 31 purchases.
Laptop recommendations would be appreciated since I was just planning on buying this.

  • +1

I think the Asus I had linked to in my post was a pretty close 2nd to this, others may dissagree but the specs seemed fine, just I was going to buy an additional 4gb of Ram anyway at $49 which pushed me towards the Dell.

  • Anyone else get an email saying that they have to make the laptops custom made and there will be a 2 week delay?

  • yeah I got that one. I want to see the specs on the custom version before I agree. I think they should up the specs due to their mistake.

    • Yeah, I asked, no love for it though. I'm asking to improve the graphics card, ill see how much it will cost.

  • What card are you after? The one offered seemed ok. I would prefer they through in an i7 Processor.

  • No go - Agreed to settle for original specs and two weeks wait.

  • So after Dell selling items on Ebay that they didn't have available, then waiting for 2 weeks for a custom build, the bloody thing has a bright green pixel from the first time I turn it on. Visible on all screens.

    Not happy.

  • All fixed by Dell - happy again
