I like how the machine comes installed with a 64bit OS, yet is only installed with 2GB of ram!

If you are going to buy something like this, then it needs to have a minimum of 4GB of RAM or it is going to be a painful experience. I am not sure anyone would see any difference between 32 and 64 bit on 2GB of RAM.

The processor on these is very slow by today's standards. I suggest people look for something better.

        "Memory not expandable"
        What a shame. Ridiculous, really.

        • Yeah, agree. I got caught out on a similar setup 2 years ago when they were just starting to solder on the ram. I would stay clear of this slow cpu and low non upgradable ram.

For a system like this, an SSD upgrade would be highly beneficial as running out of RAM would cause a lot of HDD thrashing.

        • +1

Fix the RAM first, then the HDD.

Even with a SSD, you don't want to be hitting the swap file every time you move the mouse. Ok, may be not the mouse, but still.

Not worth the extra expense of the SSD and RAM. It is still a slow processor.

You are effectively getting a Intel NUC with a bonus 15 inch display for the same price as a regular NUC. So I think the price is pretty decent.

Kinda the wrong way of looking at it, though. If this were $200 with 1GB non-expandable RAM, it'd also be a pretty decent price compared to a NUC, but that speaks nothing to the fact it'd be an awful purchase :)

Real question is at what price you're happy to suffer 2GB.

        • @Jabba the Hutt:I dont think your comment make much of a point. Anybody could make big 'if's when ever they feel like it. if this comes with an i7 and 4gb ram i would defenitly grab it but it doesnt. as for the laptop alone it would be pretty much identical in specs with the n2830 NCU with a 500 hdd except rams runs on lower freq. The way i see it the additional screen and keyboard and touch screen would have added more value to the device.

          @Jabba the Hutt: +the 64 bit windows 8 that i forgot to mention….

    • At least you can run 64-bit binaries if needed.

Also, x64 architecture have double the CPU registers so there's a small speed improvement there.

I have no idea why those computer genius would put merely 2G ram into a computer anymore unless it's a 10 years old one. Maybe they think it's enough if you don't install and run any software at all…

I'd rather to have one tenth of the current hard drive, yep, i am happy to have 50GB HD just give me 8G ram for goodness sake!!!

  • Isn't the ebay deal over?

    • +2

      Ends 23:59 (AEST) Sept 16th

  • Should be ok as a standalone htpc running MediaPortal etc. (I've been running a lower spec circa 2009 unit with MP and its been flawless, 3 usb tuners, ir, external drives etc…)

    • Wouldn't a chromebox/book or NUC be better?

I bought this similar one from Amazon http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KF4980Y/ref=pe_385040_121528360_… the other day for $252 delivered, looks like its just gone up but has 4gb Ram

No kidding. What was the shipping fee?

      • +1

Price was $219 plus shipping $252 total. Same one is about $450 in Officeworks

        • Yes we get looted in australia. But i just checked multiple laptops and most say "does not ship to australia".
