  • So torn between getting this, the AS30 or a GoPro 3+ Silver. It's not even for me :(

    • The only difference between the AS20 and AS30 is GPS and NFC, right? (Edit: the AS30 seems to come with the LCD screen attachment too, at least from Ted's and DigiDirect, and is $249.95).
(I think I'm going to get the AS20, having looked at this YouTube review of the AS10. Hopefully Sony hasn't screwed it up between the AS10 and AS20.

  • Probably a silly question, but can these be used as a dashcam in a car?

    • Two things: It doesn't have a display built in so you can't see what it is recording unless you link it to your phone (which may not really matter). More importantly, I don't think it has a continuous loop recording mode so you'd have to keep wiping the memory card (which the camera itself can do) but it can be a bit annoying having to do that all the time.

    • You can get a good cheap car camera on eBay, For a good site of reviews see https://dashcamtalk.com/.
I recently purchased a "B40 A118 Novatek 96650" and it has been working great.

    • You could but there would be the associated fiddling around with pressing record and stop. The real dashcams start recording automatically. Plus have other specific functionalities for dashcam purposes.

Get a mini 0803 for less price and good quality video both day and night. I've got one in my car at the moment and also a Lukas ACE 7900, the mini 0803 for the price (~$110) is unbeatable.

    • Its not a silly question. I recently bought a SJ1000 action camera for ~$74AUD which has LCD display, water proof housing and mounts. It doubles as a dashcam which automatically starts recording when the car ignition is turned on.

  • Went into JB's today to have a look at this. It wasn't the AS20 for $179, it was the AS30. I got it, figured the GPS may come in handy plus there seems to be no different between the main specs. The AS30 has the GPS and the AS20 is newer, is slighter lighter and slightly better battery usage.
