I booked an extra trip today :)

Can you bring us back some Folders !

    Love your work.

By the way, has anyone flown with them from Sydney to Manila yet? I've already booked for November but I'm hesitant to book again until I know I can handle such a long journey after what I heard about knee space.

      Peter,

I just returned from 11 days manila flying on the 3rd ever service CEB had on that route. It was the best flight I have ever had !!!!! reason being that neither flight was over 50% full, and they told us we can move anywhere we want once up at cruising height, so we had a row to ourselves !!! yes the seats are abit "thinner" than Air Asia Jetstar, but the staff are lovely, they play a guessing game with passengers on every flight !! and food was nice !!! IF it was 100% full flight?? It would be equivalent maybe slightly worse than air asia… but I will definitely fly with them again and just remind myself of the $70 each way price when i feel abit squashed ! … I just wont go in the wet season again Lol !! abit wet but a beautiful country :)

PS , they plane even has wifi !! its not free but not too exy

      • +1

Did you by any chance happen to see which exit seats are best? Row 1 maybe? Are all the other exit seats located at the lavatories?

        • +2

Check www.seatguru.com. Has details on (pretty much) every flight and which seats are good and bad

        • +2

@danj303: Pretty much every flight except this one….

        • we had exit seats on way back that were row 22 i think and it was right next to lavatory. but the arm rest wouldnt go up so i took the row behind :D

I would assume row 1, but cant be certain sorry

        • I think that all exit seats will have solid arm rests (Tray table inside arm rest) and so there is less seating width. For that reason I never opt for exit seats. However they may suit tall-skinny people.

  • +1

I've flown them. Think it was only the 3 hour trip from Manila to Singapore. It was fine. Dont remember it being really much different to Jetstar or AirAsia which I know much better (particularly AirAsia).
I am not a small man. Just over 6 foot and definitely not a narrow build.

  • +1

Shame there's no $44 fares on the return during January.

    • they are booking up quick. definitely had the $44 January return just earlier. :(

  • This is interesting…from:
    http://www.smarttravelasia.com/economy.htm

'that is unless you are flying Cebu Pacific Air (www.cebupacificair.com) or Vietnam Airlines (www.vietnamairlines.com). Think 20 to 20.7 inches – that’s right, over 20 inches of sumptuous, roomy, economy space. The closest contenders for regular economy seat width are Gulf Air (www.gulfair.com) with 19.8 inches on the A319 and A330, Bangkok Airways with 19.37 inches on the A319-132 and A320-232,……..'

    • +2

Take that with a grain of salt, Cebu Pacific is your typical low cost carrier. 9 Abreast (Jetstar uses 8 abreast) A330 and 180 seat a320s. Both of which they fill with the maximum certified amount of economy seats.

  • +2

    I a,ready booked for February/ march. At$143 such a bargain.

  • +1

I actually like their seats more than Airasia's.

  • +1

I booked a Feb trip last time this was on. I might book another if they do a sale for July.

I've flown with them on shorter routes. I'd take them over Jetstar.

  • +1

Does an Oz passport holder need a visa to Philippines?

    • +1

there isn't a cost and you receive it upon arrival (stamped passport 30 day stay). no other action required.
stay longer under circumstances where you applyvover there and pay a small fee

    • +2

No. Just normal entry and departure stamps put into your passport. Upon departure from Ninoy Aquino International Airport international travellers have to pay Php550 terminal fee. However, starting next Wednesday, October 1, passengers going through the Ninoy Aquino International Airport can expect less queuing with the integration of the P550 terminal fee into the price of airline tickets.

Thanks OP - all booked for a family trip early next year, crazy price! Nice to give the kids a reality check after their business class flights to KL (www.ozbargain.com.au/node/135395).

  • +2

They should've decided to also fly to Melbourne so then I can go.

    • actually….I'm a Melbournian.
The jetstar connection still makes this worth it
Budget carriers give you very few options these days getting to the Philippines
It used to be Jetstar MEL>DARWIN DARWIN>MANILA
Now its all via Singapore anyways which is obviously a wonderful city & airport but I've been there too many times…
Going Jetstar Melbourne (Avalon, Im in Geelong) to Sydney
Then Cebu Sydney to Manila will be our journey in late Feb 15
Christmas trip is Jetstar MEL>SING>MANILA (but have 3 days in Sing)

  • A great deal, but be warned!! WORLDS MOST CRAMPED A330 ! Thinner seats too to cramp more seats in. So byo padding!

      hi peck
I think your link might only be accessible to theaustralian premium subscribers?
I just get the 'sign up here option' with a range of pricing.

      • +5

        Here's a naughty secret:

If you Google any article from The Australian you can link to the full article for free.
(i.e. just type in "World's most cramped Airbus A330 to take flight from Sydney" into Google).

        • +2

lol worthy of an ozbargain post!

  • +1

"The airline fits more seats in its Airbus A330-300 than any other carrier, with an all-economy layout that is nine abreast rather than the usual eight seats across.
The result is a 436-seat cabin with narrower seats — about 16.5 inches compared to the 18 inches recommended by manufacturer Airbus — that in many cases are closer together.
The standard seat pitch (a measure of the distance between seats) on Cebu’s A330 is 30 inches, although it offers the 32-inch seat pitch common on many international flights as “Standard Plus” seats.
Transfer to a smaller Cebu Airbus A320 in The Philippines, however, and the seat pitch can shrink to 28-29 inches.
Cebu Pacific chief Garry Kingshott said he doubted the airline’s high seat count would act as a disincentive to passengers looking at a seven to eight-hour flight.
Mr Kingshott said the new technology, thinner seats meant there was a better seat pitch on its A330 than with domestic economy seats flown by Virgin, Qantas and Jetstar.
“It’s a pretty comfortable aircraft,’’ he said. “We invested in these new technology Geven seats which actually give you about an inch extra room around your knees than a traditional seat so using the pure metrics is not a great way of comparing it.’’
The trend towards cramming more seats in aircraft is becoming more prevalent, with both Airbus and US rival Boeing scrambling to give carriers what they want."

for those buying a new iphone or laptop etc at around the $1000 mark. it's almost a free flight when you factor in TRS.

    • +2

      bullion
I am very interested in this, would you mind explaining I dont fully understand the process and how i can save.

      • I second Slippy's comment.

        • +2

he's saying because you get refunded the GST component of 1000 (ie divide by 11 = $90.91).. it's almost the same as $143 bearing in mind that's with no luggage

        • @CVonV: iPhone/laptop = luggage
          (well, my usual luggage anyhoo)

        • @muncan:

          what about your iClothes?

        • +1

          @CVonV: layers… many layers

        • @muncan: carry on is included, just not checked baggage

        • +2

@rilebags: carry on then, carry on

  • This is the 3rd time that they're doing this. Not complaining, but why?

    I'm going there tomorrow!

any tips on things to do in this area? wife keeps whinging she wants a holiday so this could be a cheap option ;)

    • +1

yep, travel to one of more popular islands (Phils is 7107 islands) like bohol, boracay, palawan, and enjoy your time there :) manila is good for shopping eating partying but no beach and its hectic hectic place, not much relaxation lol. you will appreciate the 'silence' of australia when you get back !

      long Weekend
Spend 1-2 days exploring Manila’s ancient Intramuros district, then head south of Manila for 2-3 days of golfing in the Batangas region or diving and snorkeling in the coral-rich waters of Puerto Galera or Anilao. Return to Manila via Tagaytay, overlooking spectacular Lake Taal and Taal Volcano.
      One Week
Beach bums and divers will want to spend the entire week in the Visayas, either island hopping or just relaxing in a resort on Boracay, Cebu, Bohol, or Negros. If you prefer mountains and hill tribes, spend 2 days exploring the rice terraces around Banaue, 2 days in Sagada, and 1 night in Baguio. If possible take a 1-day detour to Vigan before heading back to Manila for 1-2 days.
      Two Weeks
Spend 2 days exploring Manila, then take an overnight bus to Banaue and complete the 6-day mountain loop described above. Next, fly to Dumaguete, Negros, and relax for 3 days on nearby Siquijor or Apo Islands. Take a ferry to Bohol and spend 3 days there, before making your way by ferry to Cebu for your flight home. Of course you can always spend that second week on a resort island like Boracay.

    Awesome deal! Booked!

  • +1

dam i need in november i have been to the Philippines every month this year so far.

  • They are good but was a little concerned when they accidentally rammed the terminal in Puerto princessa. Not the best airline out there.

  • +1

Thanks; I signed up to their emails but didn't get this. Booked.

No extra fee for cr card, no extra fee for adding luggage later…note that Jetstar!

    • No fee for adding luggage? You're allowed 7kg carry on, any extra is $35 per kg. Unless you prepaid the luggage.

      https://www.cebupacificair.com/Pages/fee-summary.aspx

      • +1

OK, no extra fee for adding prepaid luggage later. The $35/kg is the standand rip-off over-weight luggage fee.

So, I booked without luggage and if I want to change the return flight I just lose $44; if/when I'm sure I'll use the flight I'll add luggage for the same price as at the initial booking..$30 for 20kg.

cebu air = tiger air, yes i love it

  • +1

    Nice one OP

    Booked in Sydney-Manila for 12 Feb 2014….

  • +1

There're plenty of extra fees here but it's still cheap.
    A return flight would be…
    $60 standard luggage
    $16 seats
    $8 web admin
    $17.5 base fare.

It's actually $221, or even more if you want to eat.

    • +1

I paid $143ea. That was it. Not even a cr card fee. No I don't want to eat..at least on the return flight(dep 12:15am). Yes granted luggage will be extra as with all LCC airlines, one can't really compare this LCC with Qantas, except QFA charge cr card fee lol.

FREE : if you have and pay with an ANZ Black card (re previous ozb deal)then I think it might be free insurance (T&Cs "spend min $250")if you book 2+ persons.
FREE : if you have a Citi Signature card (re another ozb deal!)there is a Priority lounge there; you'll need that for the late flight!

      • Additional ref insurance…applies if extra person is spouse/your children only (and then they are also covered), otherwise have to charge/spend more to get up to the $250 spend on YOUR trip…IMO, always check yourself.

    • +2

If you buy the ALL IN fares then there is no tax, admin fee or credit card fees. Booked it this morning for 143pp

      • darn I didnt do that :(

  • Thanks OP! Flights booked for February!!

  • Thanks! We are going in February too, now to decide where in the Philippines - definitely don't want to stay in Manila, perhaps overnight near the airport & then we're out of there - Manila is one big traffic jam but there are some really beautiful places in the Philippines.

  • Booked, and an onward trip to Palawan.

    Thanks!!!

  • All the $44 seats from manila to sydney are gone!

    • +1

Booked this morning for 2, for 17th march

  • All the crap about seat sizes & separating distances, I would squat my backside on a milk crate for $143 return flight to Manila

    • It is not 'crap'. It is helpful advice for some who might want to use it.
