  • slightly cheaper cardboard, you beauty

but srsly does anyone rate this stuff? Ive had it once or twice but was not impressed. Curious though and wanna know what ozb'ers think

    • +1

Not for everyone. A relatively expensive way to do your shopping - especially for multiples.

IMO - The dinners are better than supermarket quality frozen food - good for time challenged and/or singles. Reasonable taste. TIP - use the oven to heat - not microwave - seems to retain much more flavour.

I know two people who have used it as a cornerstone to lose a lot of weight - but as I said - not for everyone.

      • +1

Totally agreed, dinners and mini meals are excellent. Fair better than any prepared meals you can buy from the supermarket. Expensive though, even at the discount. However, the dinners are good sized. EDIT - if you have the time and know basic nutrition, it's always far cheaper to cook up and freeze your own meals. If i end up buying these it will be things that are difficult the cook and reheat well (avoid anything that needs to be crunchy like chicken schnitzel!) the most impressive thing about these meals though is how nothing overcooks when reheating.

Well, it targets a specific market. If you are a family man with kids then this is very expensive and probably not suitable.
If you are single and need to watch your weight then this may be for you. No need to count calories, no need to think of what it would be healthy and balanced diet, etc.
The food is reasonably tasty, it is supposed to be prepared by nutritionist so it should give you all the things you should get - and which you may not get if you are not planning your diet correctly.
Saying that I have not shed many kilos, but the truth is it helps to keep you you from crap food. :-)

We tried it twice. Mandarins that were like cardboard, endless sour dough bread. F'ing sour dough!

Cheaper to rip the menu from their website and shop for the stuff yourself.

I use CalorieKing software to keep track on what I eat. Every time I use it I lose weight. When I get lazy the opposite. At the moment I am 10 KGs down from March this year. 6 in last few weeks due to doctor bringing me some news that pushed me further.

    • I tend to use it for a month or so whenever I get back from packing on weight in the US.

The meals are usually quite nice, and they are well balanced. It helps the weight really fall off, it's easier to just use this then fall back into a more relaxed diet when I'm back to a regular weight.

The one complaint that I do have though, is that their fruit is crap. I wish there was an option to leave that out of the order and just buy your own.

  • Cheers :)

Hmmm, Hungry Jack's vouchers still works out cheaper, I'll stick with those :P

This, my sister tried it but found it expensive, unless you are time poor not the best option, also you can walk into coles/woolies almost any day and find 40% or 70% etc off fresh food, this is fixed except for occasional promos like this one

  • +3

Light and easy does work, but I can't recommend it. For what you get it's too expensive. Better off using "My Fitness Pal" to count calories.

  • +2

I've been buying the mini meals as easy lunch options. (I'm not fat, I'm just lazy about food.)

The 'mini meals' are the best bang for buck in terms of amount of food (by weight and kj) vs cost (when compared with the 'meals in a bowl' and 'lite meals').

I'm pretty nonplussed when it comes to food, it's just a fuel source for me… so I won't make any judgements regarding flavour quality, other than to say they fill me up and aren't horrible.

Sure- if I was served it up in a restaurant or cooked it myself I'd probably think it tasted rubbish… but they cost $5.50 (with 15% off), no effort required, and fill me up.

I hail this as a saviour when we first had our kids and were running around like headless chickens and cooking is the last thing on our minds.

I tried it again recently for a week and lost 3kgs and got reminded how a regular portion should be.

    • 3kgs in a week. Wow good work! Did you exercise daily?

      • +3

well, i did more walking than usual that particular week (>1 hr every other day) on top of incidental walking/movements… the weight loss was an accident (not a bad one though), I choose the wrong calorie plan so was eating lesser than what i am supposed to. I was feeling hungry most of the time and I assumed that was because I am really too used to the extra huge portions.

So coming off that 1 week diet, I remembered how portions are sized, and now me and my missus share 1 takeaway box (from outside), instead of me wolfing 1 box on my own and then still feel hungry. :)

if i were to go back to this LnE plan, my missus wants me to go on a higher cal diet as she is tired of me whinging about the food "this portion is for hamsters!" etc etc.

my take from LnE experience, it's not for everyone. Even for myself, I find that my lifestyle don't conform to their packagings. So for me, I use this when I anticipate the really busy weeks (looking after kid + work + study + house matters).

If you have time to cook (which I normally do), then LnE isn't meant for you as a meal replacement. But if you are looking at portion control, trying out different things throughout the week, go for it. I find that I ate way more different types of foods / veges/ nuts/ fruits on LnE than I ever would if I were to do shopping for myself.

  • ok so what's a good alternative? I'm not need to count my calories. I want good tasty meals. Suggestions?

    • for one, gourmet dinners has a star chef behind it.

I love light and easy meals, it depends on personal taste and what you are used to eating really.. if you're used to eating amazing home cooked meals every night then yes it won't compare. It is head and shoulders above any frozen meal you can buy at the supermarket though.

here is someone's blog with some images of the food to give you an idea of what it is you are getting.

I will never understand why people don't like lite'n'easy - I live by myself and find the price a little hefty if i was only paying for food - but at the same time I'm paying for healthy food and the knowledge that I won't have to waste my time in a supermarket comparing this and that with little nutritional know-how or hours plugging in calories on some frustrating app. I will happily pay for that peace of mind let alone the time saving.
I find the food itself great! Am I the only one? I just ate a rissole with spinach, tomato and beetroot on a wholegrain roll - all perfectly fresh and a sweet orange to boot. Then again I'm a man of simple pleasures, I don't want silly meals with unnecessary bells and whistles.

To anyone thinking about trying it out - as long as you don't have some crazy high cuisine standards - you should enjoy the food just fine. Thanks op for the 30 bucks :D

    • +1

I loved the food tbh, the lunches could sometimes be a bit meh but the dinners were really awesome! I would say I am pretty easy going and not fussy with food (I enjoy plane food lol) so it's great for me. At the moment though i'm living with my boyfriend's family and his mum does all the cooking but also uses up all of the freezer space so I don't really have a need for it.. just wish the food was a bit healthier here D:

I had that same meal today! Very nice. I have been on lite and easy for a few months and dropped 22kg's. Works a treat for me. Seems pricey to start off with, but when you consider you get your three meals in a day for around $20 per day, compare that to dinners out, subway, mcdonalds etc, it's not that bad. Yes, I could do better doing it myself, but have the time, energy or desire, plus I would still be making some bad choices.

Quality of food is good, yes you get some shitty fruit every now and again, no different than Coles or Woolies.

    • you've been fooled if you think this is healthy …

Homestyle Macaroni Bake (Calories = 465)

it's funny how people can list the ingredients out on a LnE meal but fail to do so for everything else they put in their body?

as for value, did you take into consideration, packaging, quick freezing, variety and delivery into the cost?

i'm no LnE champion, but you did not make a good case of saying why it is unhealthy. everyone can parrot a list of ingredients.

why don't you put your healthy alternatives to what LnE can deliver then?

  • +4

It's all about portion control. I've used it for nearly two years and lost over 20 kg in the first 5 or 6 months. Since then my wife and I used it for the weekdays and lashed out on the weekends. I've pretty much maintained my weight for that whole time which I've never been able to do before.

A lot of people use it for convenience even though they don't have weight issues. I used to buy lunch every day at work anyway so I found the cost to be ok. I don't get the breakfasts, just lunch and dinner btw.

Yes it can be expensive. Yes there are some things I don't like ie. mandarins and kiwi fruit but it worked for me.

I find it annoying that I don't get any of these discount codes from L & E and only find them on Ozbargain.

  • It didn't work for me :(

  • I meant, the code didn't work.

  • it dont work anymore

    • Worked for me 5 mins ago. You might want to try again, and make sure the % is still on the end of the code - that's the most common reason the code doesn't work for someone.

  • +1

There is usually a Colesworth special that is cheaper than this. On the 7 day 3 meal = $24 a day.

That may be decent for noobs, but really NOTHING special to a bargain hunter.

  • +1

Just tried this code. Doesn't work. I suppose 2 Oct must've been the last day.

BTW, I have lost 40kg with Lite n Easy. Hit my target weight nearly 2 years ago and still get it due to the "easy" part because it helps me manage my weight - I eat the same 1200 calorie meals as when I was trying to lose weight, but now I don't have to worry if I want to eat out occasionally, or enjoy a treat now and then.
I did not exercise to lose that weight as I was very busy - I still lost weight (about 1kg a week) but this is not the way I'd recommend it unless you really have no choice like me. In fact, I started L&E due to desperation when I couldn't find time to exercise - I decided diet alone was better than doing nothing, and it's paid off. I obviously still have a health risk though due to my current lack of exercise.

I am still trying to find ways to fit in some fitness time. I get too busy normally to pay attention to food so at least with L&E I don't have to think about it and it's automagically the right number of Kj.
Regarding the healthy discussion about L&E: have spoken to two dieticians about it. One said it was OK but a bit high in salt (some options are) and another said it was good.

You have to like the food of course. It's not to everyone's taste. If you like it and don't have the time to prepare healthy meals yourself, it's a boon. It's dearer than shopping for fresh food and cooking it yourself of course. But it's much cheaper than eating takeaway - especially if you factor in the medical bills you'll eventually have to pay!
