iPhone 6 from $858 ($815.50 with 5% off gift cards) at Big W

774

Big W are selling the iPhone 6 from $858 (that's $11 less than Apple).
Assuming you can find one…

Entertainment Card holders can purchase Big W & Wish Gift Cards at 5% discount. So $850 of gift cards comes to $807.50 (plus $8 remaining). That's an everyday price of $815.50 from Big W without resorting to price matching.

Don't forget to pay with a FF/rewards points accruing credit card.

Don't forget to show your Everyday Rewards card for even more FF/rewards points.

Finally, be sure to leave the country within 60 days to claim another 10% back from TRS (that's $815.50 - $78 = $737.50 after refund). Maybe use some of those FF points you've been racking up. Don't forget to ask for a complimentary seat upgrade.

    • So OW price comes down to $815?

      • Yes, assuming OW doesn't reduce their price before the Big W offer starts Thursday.

        • +1

They will, they usually do after the very first price match

        • Is this not their everyday price? I picked up one on launch day for $858 from big w.

    • wait does the link indicate no stock… anywhere?

      Let the bending games begin.

  • 2% CashRewards from Apple online works out cheaper ;)
Edit: not on iPhone 6 and plus apparently!

    • +6

Not if you use wish cards.

      • +1

Now there's a very good thought :) 5% isn't bad for the wish card effetive discount.

I had trouble finding pricing online for the iPhone 6 @ www.bigw.com.au though - maybe it was yet to be fully updated.

  • +60

Are we calling 1.2% cheaper a bargain now?

    • +15

you also get 828 qantas ff points…

      • +3

No you don't, you'll only get 414 Qantas FF points. At Big W you earn 1 point for every TWO dollars spent above $30.

    • +6

Lol, well it is if free shipping from terrible junk/gadget sites are classified as bargains!

    • -2

1.2% off is worthwhile if the initial price is great. (Not to say that you're wrong in this case)

are we calling iphones a bargain now?

      • -3

        Took you a while….

    • -1

OzRRP - always applicable on Apple Products and people still leap at the opportunity. Thats why there's still votes against 4 year old iPhone 4's selling for $300 and still a "Bargain" to the fanboi or the desperate. :)

  • +27

I can buy a bendy rubber ruler for 50c

      • +6

Unless you're a grandma with osteoporosis, I highly doubt that.

  • The 64GB is also cheaper at $988. I have thought about getting price match at OW but will probably have stock in December or something..

In order to get price match, both stores will need to have stock which will not happen in near future…

    • Telstra had stock today in George st store so who knows, maybe you might find two stores with stock.

I got iphone 6 plus from ebay through bidding. Got it for $900 Iphone 6 Plus 16GB lol..

        What's wrong with 16GB?

        • -1

What's wrong with 16GB? It's generally too small for most people, sure you can work around it , but a higher capacity phone is always worth it rather than the base model

        • 16 GB iPhone after 2 months becomes feature phone which can only be used to make phone calls and messaging. No more space to install new apps or music(forget the camera).
Unless you use it as feature phone with few smart features from day one like old 50+ people.

        • +3

          @akd:

          like old 50+ people.

who are you calling OLD !!!

        • @jv: Sorry, 50 years old people.

        • @akd: May be Iphone needs to change their names as for 16 GB as OLD People, 64 GB as Young people and 128 GB as Kids … :))

        • +3

omg you have no idea. 16gb is perfectly fine and I don't agree with this "feature phone" notion. Most people these days stream content and media. All those arguing the need for 64gb/128gb still keep their old seasons of 1 and 2 of family guy they will never watch again. I've always had 16gb and never felt deprived with a bit of management. You can also use things like Dropbox so your files are always in the cloud and at ur fingertips.

        • +1

          @Gavman:

That's only if you have a good enough plan giving you enough data.
I have 3GB every month, not streaming…but still not enough as I browse quite a bit.

        • i find myself in and around wifi most the day. Ppl who go to uni and have jobs do to. Really comes down to the individual. For some ppl they need more space and have that option of spending 130$/$300 for more space but ppl can and do get by with 16gb ok

        • @clse945111: Completely agree. For prepaid users with limited data, Dropbox and other cloud facilities are not on the go. So there is need to keep the files on phone. My main issue with iPhone is that App size is comparatively large as compared to Android apps and they take up too much space. Apple own apps like Numbers, podcasts etc. are more than 300 MB each + the documents.

      • +2

        lol

11 bucks off a $869 item isn't a bargain, it may be cheaper but not a bargain.

    • Perhaps he should have worded it better, the OW potential price match would be a bargain if you manage to do it.

    • Yeah a bargain will be 15% off like kogans was

    • +4

If you can get discounted wish cards, then you can potentially save an additional 5% when buying at BigW, as opposed to Apple Store.

      • +1

This, plus staff discount for the thousands of people who work for Woolworths, plus QFF points. I worked out that buying the iPhone 6 64GB from Big W will cost me over $100 less than buying it from Apple.

        • Can you tell me how you did this ?

        • +1

          @247thesteven:

You buy the woolworths gift cards from racq http://www.racq.com.au/membership/what-you-get/discounts/Woo…

Then they are obviously combining an additional discount with their staff discount card.

        • +2

          @247thesteven:

You can get 5% off wish gift cards from a number of places (RACV/RACQ/etc, entertainment book, various student association discounts, etc).

Then, Woolies staff discount is 5%. I have a discount card in my own right, but even if you don't have one yourself, chances are good you know someone who either works for a Woolies group member or has a secondary card (not condoning this as it's against the rules, but people do do it all the time).

So for the 64gb, 5% off $988 is $938.60, and a further 5% off that is $891.67, or a little over $100 off the Apple price.
For the 16gb, 5% off $858 is $815.10, another 5% off makes it $774.35, a little under $100 off the Apple price.

I thought about waiting for the next double staff discount weekend at Big W, they usually come around every couple of months, but as I'm going overseas next month it makes more sense for me to buy it now and claim the GST back through the TRS. I just hope Big W gets stock in before I leave.

    Cheap as chips.

    • +1

      yep, pretty close…

  • Have they fixed the bending problem?

    • +7

Probably. The phones now come pre-bent so they don't bend in the pockets.

    • +3

Yeah the new update strengthens the casing :) lol

Watch the bend test with note vs iPhone 6, the Samsung bends but returns back to normal, the iPhone bends and stays that way

        • +5

I have no issue with the tests, it's the fact that it requires such effort to be so careless with such expensive electronics.

        • +5

have a break, have a kitkat.
          It breaks, not bend.

        • Another idea Samsung stole from Apple. Only difference is this time they implemented it on their TV's and not their phones.

        • The note bends back because it's plastic. The iPhone 6 doesn't bend back because it's metal.

        • @Michaelz101:
A that is the design problem isn't it.

        • don't bend your friggen phone. Simple.

      • that doesn't look bent. looks like it's been snapped in half with a lot of force.

    • +2

In case you haven't seen Samsung capitalizing on the bends.

This is not Bargain this is pathetic

    • Your reason for negging is pathetic

      • +4

You are correct, Australia does not have explicit freedom of speech in any constitutional or statutory declaration of rights…

      • +2

He's right. Come on. In the real world, this isn't a bargain!!

But under ozbargain rules, it is?!

Of course, the fact that I bought an LG G2 for $346 recently, is irrelevant…because value is subjective ;)

One of manager bought iPhone 6 few days after the launch date, then he's been using proper aluminium casing ($3-40 paid at Optus), he took out of case, and it's slightly bended.

He doesn't mind and argue that it's not bended, but he doesn't want to recommend anyone to purchase.

I've been using iPhone 4 since Nov 2010, I don't know whether to change to iPhone 6

    • I'm 20 and would consider myself a major hipster (aka I wear skinny jeans all the time). So far there hasn't been any bent, and trust me once you get your hands on it, you won't care that it bends. I love it.

      • +8

what's 'it'? what's been bent? is 'it' something related with your skinny jeans?

      • that's… what she said?

Priced At $858 my least concern atm is whether it will bend. How did this end up on ozBARGAIN.

  • -6

So many negative comments towards this deal, yet most are too scared to neg the 'deal' in fear of being negged… Great.

    • Because these comments have nothing to do with the deal itself.

  • thanks op bought 60

  • It was cheaper in DS last week… They had the iPhone 6 for 5% off

  • +5

Damnit these voting rules need to be changed. It's burning me that I can't downvote this.

    $11 off a ~$900 product a bargain? Really?

  • +1

Generally, there are issues each time Apple introduce a new iPhone series:

iPhone 4 - Antenna location, camera (green spot in the middle)
iPhone 5 - Paint could be easily scratched, camera (purple haze)
iPhone 6 / 6+ - Easy / easier to bend, camera (inconsistent white balance)

Don't get me wrong, it is quite a challenge to deliver something issue free the first time. However, there seems to be a common pattern so far (the need for a case, and camera issue of some sort). To be fair, Apple's 14 day no question asked money back guarantee is still the benchmark.

Increase the screen size in 2014 is a really good strategy from Apple. Honestly, there is no major CPU / performance improvement this year for both Android and iOS devices. Android flagship devices already got the screen size increase in 2013. People are still happy to get an LG G2 at a bargain price this year.

    • +7

already got the screen size increase in 2013

      2011

    • I really don't think they are "easy" to bend. I've seen a few videos and it doesn't look easy at all.

  • Well gudluck finding any stock, anywhere, it's literally sold out every where including Apple shops, ow won't have stock for ages.

    • Not that hard to get iPhone 6. Order online and Apple will ship it in 7-10 business days. 6+ might be harder to get.
