EDIT2: Price has dropped, again, since posting this deal this morning.

Got two 128GB models of this drive, love em so much I've been waiting for a discount on the 256GB and it's finally come!

Sure, they're not the prettiest thing you could stick into your computer, but they get the job done!

Fast and cheap. Mhm.

Was $112AUD delivered, at checkout. The more dedicated OzBargainers could probably get it cheaper with 28 degrees cards and other forms of wizardry.
I paid in USD (94.35), for the sake of seeing what it comes to after Commbank currency conversion and conversion fee.

EDIT: Oops, forgot to put the store in the title. Was possibly a bit too excited (I checked the price of this drive every day…). Thanks for the edit!

  • Got a 32GB version. Good drive. Thx for sharing.

I lose USBs all the time. It would kill me to lose this! Lol.

    Good deal, OP.

    • Same thing came to mind. Much better having 8-16GB versions scattered through the house. No way I'd pay any more than $30 for a USB, no matter how good these PNY ones might be.

i have multiple of 128gb versions. although. it has fast speed in the original format. pnce u reformat the drive it decreases speed from 107mb/sec to 30 mb/sec. which is annoying when ur copying a 10gb movie onto it. feels like im a a sliw boat from china

      paint your boat red

      I've not encountered this.

I formatted mine multiple times and am still getting 190MBps+ read and 100MBps write.

      • NTFS? 4K?

      • wat format is best. i tried default byte allocation wuth ntfs and only gets 30mb/sec. wats ur file system and byte allocation

        • Currently transferring a heap of data between the two. I'll give you some numbers, once it's done.

        • If your only doing movies then go max byte allocation.

        • +1

I haven't done enough playing around with allocation size, to find the best for my needs.

Just formatted both to exFat with default allocation size and ran CrystalDiskMark.

          1st drive:
          Seq: 192.5 Read 108.8 Write
          512K: 147.2 Read 3.964 Write
          4K: 5.188 Read .073 Write
          4K QD32: 5.037 Read .038 Write

          2nd Drive:
          Seq: 192.3 Read 110.5 Write
          512K: 146.6 Read 1.464 Write
          4K: 5.170 Read .068 Write
          4K QD32: 4.712 Read .115 Write

        • i formated to default ntfs setting with windows 8 on surface pro so it can support larger then 4gb files

        • @Skitzout:

exFAT is much faster than NTFS on flash memory but not as robust, i.e. corrupts more easily. Also supports files >4GB and works on Windows and Macs.

pnce [once] u reformat the drive it decreases speed from 107mb/sec to 30 mb/sec

Interesting. What format type did you use? And was it formatted on a PC or on a Mac?

  • +2

cheap cases, but good speeds. I lost my 128 somewhere so will probably pick one of these up!

  • Is this a BadUSB?

    • +1

      Is this a BadUSB?

      No, it is a GoodUSB.

The only 'problem' is the cheap casing and therefore the sliding cover. If you do not slide it just 'right' it will stick. There is a 'trick' to it - just a bit difficult to explain. Involves squeezing it the right way when sliding the cover.

  • If you're not hung up on pocketabilty/portability, probably better to get a 2.5" 2TB for around the same price or cheaper, but for what it is & the target demographic; yes it's a pretty good price.

    • +1

get a 2.5" 2TB for around the same price or cheaper

From where? These days (low AU$) one would be very lucky to get a good brand name 2TB 2.5inch external portable for under AU$102 delivered.

  • I've had one of these PNY 256GB for a couple of months now, the seq speeds (from new) are ~45MB/s read and ~40MB/s write, nothing like the multiple 128GB's I have at over 100MB/s read & write.

Interesting. I will stick with my 128GB.

      • Scratch that, I just tested the 256GB on another PC and it got 200Mb/s read and 140MB/s write, strange as my 128GB's still do >100MB/s on the slow USB3 PC.

Stop it! I have no spare money for one of these. Must resist.

        • Haha, I'm also desperately searching for reasons not to get another.

  • Ahh… It seems to have dropped further in price, since I posted and bought this.

    Well…

Just canceled original order and repurchased for $86.23USD delivered!

  • Reliability seems to be an issue with these. Otherwise I'd be getting one too. The price and speed are good.

    • Was that your experience with them? What capacity?

      • Read amazon complaints about them not lasting long at all.

  • Any recommendations for a cheap 64gig usb that ships to Australia? Only the 256gb PNY ships to australia

  • +1

Just to let you guys know, there is also a 1tb thumb drive from Kingston, only this company has it. And costs a it extra obviously.

    • What / which company has the 1TB drive ??

  • +1

Price has dropped again (????) to $79USD (before shipping).

    • +1

Hasn't dropped its just slightly cheaper from another store, still fulfilled by Amazon though.

  • +2

Whilst some have had problems it has 4 1/2 star rating on Amazon.

    That's very good.

  • +1

Saying it doesn't ship to Australia?

    • Not working for any items on amazon for me…

    • Definitely ship to Australia as I just bought one from Amazon. Shipping was US$5.05.
But you may want to try other stores as they all have similar prices.

  • +1

I still remember the 256MB and 512MB flash drives that came out in the early 2000s. And how excited we all were when the first 1GB drives were released. They were $99 at the local computer fair.

    • +2

Still use my old 128MB Kingston I used at Uni, still has all my Web designs and Qbasic programs on there - and it works well :)

  • Price for the 256 gig USB stick now at $94.95 & FREE Shipping.

  • After ordering it at $79USD, 5 days later I get an email from Amazon cancelling it as they have no stock. In the same email they kindly offer a link to Amazon to buy it for $95….Not impressed!

Anyone else in the same boat?
