It's a free poster, not a free airline ticket :)

Are you ready to begin your life-changing African safari experience?

proooobably not the right time to be visiting….

        Make more sense now?

        • For the irrelevant-to-me-receiving-my-map survey fields I just put "Ebola".

      • Anyone else getting errors when they submit the form?

        I got:

        Problem accessing /uploads/form/v2/329250/12687bd4-1d36-4947-bbe7-357235b32995. Reason:

HTTP method GET is not supported by this URL

I had to 'temporarily allow' loads of things with NoScript just to get the form to load, then I got this error combined with a NoScript XSS error after submitting the form.

Or maybe the problem was that I put N'Djamena in the box labelled "Your Top Destinations Interests? *"

    • +18

I would suggest getting the map and educating yourself a little more, Africa is a big continent. London is closer to the ebola affected areas than most of the popular safari destinations in Eastern and Southern Africa.

      • +7

It is a bit like being worried* about a pandemic in Perth with a 21-28 day incubation period when you live on the East Coast.

Just don't count the number of people flying between the cities.

      • Was the map created and printed in the Republic of Congo? hmmm..

    • It's alright.

  • +23

Track ebola outbreaks as they happen!

  • +5

Thanks going to do a 30 day safari in July next year .will be good to show people how far away west Africa is to south

    • +2

By July next year you might find the West is not so far from the South anymore…

Besides aren't Safari's in the West anyway?

      • +1

Besides aren't Safari's in the West anyway?

kinda…typically the whole south bit from Namibia down

  • +4

    your life-changing

might not be the best words to use at this time :)

  • thanks..

  • -8

Have absolutely no use for it, but its FREE.

    and…. order placed.. Thanks Ozbargain

    • -2

Just chuck it once it's delivered

      • +2

        Bravo Ozbargain mentality

Person on who is open and honest about taking advantage of a free needless physical paper map (which is nearly redundant in itself) of a country few people would consider venturing to in their lifetime, let alone any time soon - gets negged to oblivion.

Person who suggests binning it as soon as it's delivered remains in the black

        • Bravo Ozbargain mentality

same mentality that negs someone simply for saying thanks to the OP: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/166134#comment-2312629

i guess the controversial stuff just can't help pulling in the neg-happy crazies

        • This is a deal for a map which no one knew they wanted, needed, would have sought. I though Kai made a very accurate observation. I figured binning it wasn't too far from reality for all the up voters who ordered it.

        • @grasstown:

Oh I know! Dont take me wrong. Wasn't having a go at you.

Just was having a chuckle at the situation tis all!

  • +7

Getting sick of ebola scare mongering (no pun intended).

    • +5

I think for a very large amount of people, the only bit of information or knowledge they have of the African continent is Ebola, and David Attenborough documentaries.

      • +4

people who think Africa is a country aren't likely to even watch documentaries ;)

      • +5

the only bit of information or knowledge they have of the African continent is Ebola, and Fox News

        fixed that for you.

      • +3

Where's Ebola? Is it near Angola? I may need this map then…

    • +3

Number of people dead from ebola on African continent since March 2014: 4500
Number of people dead from HIV on African continent since March 2014: 620,000

HIV is a 'mature' disease, education is now keeping that rate steady.
Ebola is new, and is more communicable than HIV (just touching an infected person presents an extreme risk)

Estimates show that only 6 in 10 cases are reported, and the rate of increase is higher than that of HIV at a similar stage.

Wait for this to get big, the multiplier effect is yet to kick in.
      2x2=4, 4x2=8, 8x2=16….4096x2=8192 etc.

      • ebola hits harder and kills much faster than HIV though, and it is the primary reason why it gets more attention. We've been hearing ebola for years now and the only method is quarantine. Treatment is also expensive and difficult.

Also the areas which have been hit by ebola the hardest tend to be fairly densely populated areas.
If it's in a rural area, the infected victim usually dies before he has a chance to pass it on, but in a densely populated region the victim will receive medical treatment… by improperly trained medical staff and lousy facilities which increases the chances that the virus is passed on to somebody else (i.e the staff working there)

  • +3

There seems to be a giant banner in the middle of the poster advertising themselves, not very useful if you can't see a third of the map ;)

    • Yeah, hoping this isn't on the actual map…

      • +2

It's probably just a watermark online, I doubt they would print that on the actual map.

        • I think you missed the sarcasm boat :D

        • +2

          @JLai:

Dang, when's the next time available? Can't miss it again!

  • "Thank you for submitting your Map of Africa request. Please look forward to our catalog in 5-7 business days if within the US." Does it mean its only for US or US people will get this in 5-7 days?

    • +3

      The latter. They deliver worldwide.

    • Would be strange to put a Country field for a US offer only

  • Thanks. Perfect for my new house

  • Handy to mark the new ebola outbreak sites…

what size is 'poster-sized' exactly? I mean, is this a standard size or is it just whatever size your poster happens to be printed on?

    • +1

poster size is often considered 900 x 600 mm

        TightBottom : Safari = success

Came here for the lols and was left with ebola.

  • +5

As a fellow East African, it is a beautiful place to visit if you can get past the security and health scares. You won't get to see some of the wildlife in a few years (but with Ebola and Boko haram etc, you might not return from your trip either).

    • Went camping in 2011 through Kruger and Botswana to Vic Falls, just for that reason - to tell my grandkids that I once saw lions, rhinos, giraffe and elephants in the wild.

No ebola for me, came back with cryptosporidium, so was home quarantined for 7 days and on a government register for 28…

        • I learnt very quickly the virtues of baby wipes…

Problem is crypto is so bad it completely empties you out, and then you start to bring up stuff you had forgotten about, childhood memories, small animals, organs etc.

Great way to slim down, -16kg in 10 days. Worse was that the first night I had it I had been to a game meat restaurant, so was bringing up warthog, zebra, deer etc. Awesome…then I travelled back to Aus (didn't know I had it, just thought I had food poisoning).

According to the WHO, crypto kills more children under 5 (850k) than malaria and HIV combined (750k). So, not just a light run of the trots, but a life-threatening parasite that gave me chronic fatigue for months. It's a bitch…

Moral of story is take the water thing VERY seriously.

Aaaaanyway, getting a little off topic of free African maps…

        • +1

@phunkyfeelone: well at least you will be able to pinpont reliable water supplies on the map. Glad you are back in good health. Given that bushmeat may have initiated the ebola transmission I'd be inclined to stay away from eating anything resembling a close cousin, is furry and flies, or carnivorous.

  • Hakuna Matata!!

  • +3

conspiracy 101…posters made in Africa…the posters are a worldwide attempt by terror groups to infect the world with ebola

    • +7

The workers put their sweat, blood & tears into making these posters, you could at least support them financially by buying and using the map.
