  • New users of…?

Maybe put Uber in the title.

    • Are rates the same across AU & how do they compare to, eg, Hire Cars & Taxis?

Adelaide ("UberBlack" service is your only choice…:

      • Base fare: $6.00

      • $0.40 per min

      • $1.40 Per Km

      • Min fare: $20.00 <== THAT'D BE HIGHER THAN TAXIS

      • Cancellation fee: $10.00

Decades ago, the Netherlands (or was it cities there?) allowed
people to pick-up hitchhikers, by issuing ID's to [both the
      driver &] the riders.

Making transport affordable & convenient "to all" has to have
contributed to Holland's high ranking on "Happiness" indices.

PS Hey Uber, consider an UberMates class:

Someone comes with whatever -safe- registered car they have &
      - just in-case - bring along an oversize seat & floor covers,
to put down, an-needed, for anyone needing transport after work,
& they might be dressed in soiled work clothes… painters,
      oil-rig workers, garbo's, etc.

(Medical "scrubs" extra, due to Ebola risk)

It's gotta be cheap to add new services to Uber's (& others')
web site or app (I can imagine the background for UberMates!)

Seriously, if it helped to raise incomes of drivers & let the
riders save more of theirs… Could it be so bad?

PS I won't go into details about our (proposed) UberObese idea… ;-)

If you use Uber, how do you know the car you get is legal and properly registered?

I've heard a lot of the drivers are not covered by insurance because they are just private cars.

    • +2

As a passenger, does this matter?

      • I guess if you are injured you might not be covered by the driver's insurance.

        • Some years ago, a woman was left mostly paralyzed after her car was stuck - head-on - by a drunk/drugged guy swerving inti=o her lane… Of course, he had no insurance…

In SA - at the time - costs arising from her injuries was covered by some sort of fall-back insurance… In fact, she rec'd what was (then) the highest "payout" ever awarded [in SA].

Is there any similar protection, eg, for in the case of injuries, arising from riding with someone driving (paid or not) their [effectively] unregistered vehicle?

        • If you're injured in a car accident, car insurance never pays for medical help, that's all TAC, hence why it's so expensive

    • +2

If it's UberX, then it is a private car.

UberBlack, UberLux, UberSUV are all regiered hire cars (HC plates) with appropriate registration, insurance and licensing.

  • Does this stack with a referral link?
Or does it need to be entered when the new user signs up?

    • I get "A new user promotion is already applied to your account."

Haven't taken a ride yet (therefore haven't used the last promo code CPREADER14). I thought it would of expired but apparently not.

    • no yes :)

For those in perth use 'XPRESSMAG' for $40 off your first ride. I used it on the weekend, no problem

    • how did you know if the voucher has been used? I took one on the weekend using the Grand Design promotion code, however I was still charged for the fare although I have the code validated.

I wrote to Uber to resolve.

  • Uber issued a refund for the taxi fare.. all sorted.
