  • Do these come with lots of Optus crap preinstalled that I can't get rid of?

    • It's iOS so you can just reset everything and they will be gone.

    • +3

Apple devices don't come preloaded with carrier stuff.

I guess it's an ok deal…but I honestly don't think 100MB is particularly useful and anyone paying a premium for a cellular model would probably want to go take up an additional plan or put a prepaid SIM in it.

maths time, on the $55 plan give you 1.5GB each month cost over 24 months $1320 with 36GB data included.

On the $45 plan on 12 months $1020 + $125 Voda prepaid give you 15GB/365 days total $1145.

On the $45 plan on 24 months $1080 + $250 Voda prepaid give you 30GB/730 days total $1330.

So if you need extra data preferred to sign up the $55 plan with extra 6GB data over 24 months plus the RISK of going over the limit.

  • EDIT: not really a deal. $859 on the official apple store……

      • is it locked to Optus? Even if it is unlocked, still more expensive.
      • EDIT 2: nevermind the iPad i was looking at is 128GB WIFI ONLY. thats $859…… the model OP listed was the cellular 128GB. thats $1019… So this is cheaper. revoked my NEG

        • fixed the title

this may be neg'd, but why would anyone buy this when the surface pro 3 i3 is less than 1000 and you get a laptop in a tablet? this is not really a deal either way

    • +2

For starters this has a 3g/4g modem.

    • why don't you mentioned that a 64GB model and not the 128GB model for $1209 and it's wifi only.

      • It also requires an additional purchase to act as a laptop.

In any event, personally I'd get an iPad since id prefer to use iOS over Windows 8 as a tablet OS.

    • +2

      My hand/wrist can't handle the extra 356g….
      Surface Pro 3: 800g
      iPad Air 2 Cellular: 444g

      • That's a great point - the light weight puts the Apple product in a league of its own.

        • what league is that, apple ain't by itself at all.
The Sony Z2 tablet still weighs less and until the air2 was released it was also the worlds thinnest. (even now its only 0.3 mm thicker) plus water proof etc.

and you cant compare a small 9.7 inch tablet to the 12inch Microsoft one when talking weight. different class of product that Apple has no device to be part of.

        • @PVA:
You certainly can discuss the weight. If you want to use the Microsoft Surface as a tablet then it's a very relative point of comparison, just as size, cost, OS and other factors are all fair game as well. Microsoft sells and markets it on its tablet credentials as much as it does its ability to run as more of a laptop.

With that in mind, it's perfectly valid for someone to decide the added wight is a worthwhile tradeoff for the benefits that system bring them.

      • Go to the gym and get bigger wrists then!

  • whats month to month means?

    • Means no contract.

Ask Apple store to price match it? Very expensive for a tablet though.

    • How can they price match? totally different conditions.

      • It does not hurt to try. We are only talking about 5%. I know they do price match. The main reason to buy from Apple store is their 14 day satisfaction guarantee is really good.

I returned 2 iPads due to dead pixel (I don't like a new iPad with even 1 dead pixel). Target gave me a hard time. Anyway, my current record of getting an iPad WITHOUT dead pixel is 50%.

  • I brought the iPad mini a few months back on this sort of $5 plan with Optus. It worked out cheaper than Apple.
It's valid and works I called within a month and cancelled and got billed the agreed fee for the iPad and $5 for the month.
They do credit check you so keep that in mind if your conscious of loans and credit credit history.

  • It seems that you can't currently order it anyway. It says 'Coming Soon' for me. Still a good saving if you want the iPad Air 2. I have bought my iPad Air 2 already, but if it was readily available it is a nice saving of $50

      read the title/description.

      • I have read the title and I am a current Optus customer (home phone, broadband and mobile). Still says coming soon.
