Won't need to bother my wife for a little while now with all these screws…

    • What screws? Now if you wanted a drilling, you'd be sorted!

  • +2

grabbed a bathmat… so domesticated! haha
    thanks

  • why do they have so many screw driver bits!

    • +2

Cause they are probably crap quality and you will chew through them in no time.

Dewalt = great marketing, average product.

      • Agreed, Dewalt certainly aren't what they used to be.

        • Yep, 10-15 years ago they were leading the market.
Since then all they have done is find cheaper ways of selling what was a good product. (they did it by moving manufacturing to China and Mexico)

Having said that, you are still buying the bottom of a top line field though.
There are plenty of other products well below them.

boo to all the imperial size drill bits

    • Crap of the day :)

    • +3

Hey, imperial is every 31/32 bit as good as metric

  • Good Post :)

  • Anyone know what the quality of the drill bits are like?

    • Don't mention quality, you will get downvoted :-)

  • Black & Decker project set Warranty: NONE

Thanks EC can't go wrong with $11.99 delivered.

These toolmakers have taken this whole "xxx-piece" thing to new depths. Usually they pad out the 5 good pieces with 48 ridiculous screwdriver bits to inflate the piece-count, but now they are counting an additional 34 pieces (>30%!) by adding… screws! Sorry, these are consumables, not part of a set. Next I will be going to the store to buy a "set" of nails.

    • +11

Having more pieces makes you look more of a handy man

      Scenario 1

Hot Chick: Hello Handy Man, What do you have there?
Handy Man: A 3 piece drill set
Hot Chick: Um 3 piece .. mmmmmm ok bye

      Scenario 1

Hot Chick: Hello Handy Man, What do you have there?
Handy Man: A 30 piece drill set
Hot Chick: Wow 30 piece .. thats HOT !!. Do u mind showing them to me and maybe if your lucky ill show you my pieces later

      • Dunno why you got negged for this… have given you a plus for the amusement…

        • +4

Because all the religious people on OzB believe you shouldn't show each other your bits until after marriage.

      • +1

Women only want men for their drill bits.

dewalt kit same price at bunnings http://www.bunnings.com.au/dewalt-37-piece-screwdriver-bit-s…
and the other dewalt one is the same price too http://www.bunnings.com.au/dewalt-screwdriver-bit-set-18-pac…

bunnings is the lesser of 2 evils so id rather buy through them.

    • this is more targeted to those who still have a $20 or $10 Voucher from the previous 2 sales

  • It's hard to see from the images, but do some of these have hex (allen key) heads? Doesn't seem so looking at the description. Need something to speed up my ikea assembly skills, with a very low torque setting of course.

With all the weird torx and square drive options, hex (allen key) are always absent or only 2 or so sizes. Anyone educated on the topic know why?

    • 22 x 1 inch screwdriving bits:
      6 x Phillips head
      3 x slot
      3 x square
      10 x Torx

      12 x 2 inch screwdriving bits:
      4 x Phillips head
      3 x slotted
      3 x square
      2 x Torx

So there are no hex heads in this set.

    • You can get hex bits from Bunnings for about $3. Home Hardware should have it for less. For Ikea stuff I think you need 4 and 5mm?

      e.g.

  • The Makita set is coming up for me as

    Sub Total$22.95
    Standard postage - 3000 $7.85
    Discount - $5.73
    Total $25.07

    Far from $17!

    • +1

looks like you didnt apply the BDAY code

      • Yeah that was it, i saw the $5.73 discount and assumed it applied.

HOWEVER, once I logged in , postage went up to $9.95 for some reason, to the exact same postcode!

        Sub Total$22.95
        Standard postage - 3000 $9.95
        Discount (BDAY) - $13.73
        Total $19.17

EDIT: Deleting it from cart and starting again seems to have worked

  • Thanks EC. I bought the Makita 38 pc set. $17.07 delivered is definitely better than the $29 at Bunnings. Nice work.

    • give me my makita back mac

  • I wonder why my Makita set ended up costing $17.22?!

  • What's the quality of the Makita set?

  • +1

You are probably best saving your money and just buying decent quality drill bits as you need them. I have brought some of these multi sets before and then tried using them to drill into masonry/wood/metal only for them to glow red but not actually drill a hole.

    • +2

any on-masonry bit will fail on masonry.

    • +1

for them to glow red but not actually drill a hole.

Rookie mistake right there, stopping at red…keep pushing til they get white-hot, then you can burn right through your target. :P

  • Cheers EC.

  • Makita might make good tools but their drill/driver bits are crap. I have a set and they're very soft.

  • bought makita 38 piece, thanks good price.

  • I received the Makita 38 piece set today. Heap of junk. Broke screw driver bit on first use. Will be making warranty or refund claim with COTD.
