  • More free paint! Does anyone know if it is a predefined tint or can you get them to colour match for you?

    Thanks

They will match any colour. It is a semi-gloss finish. They run this deal once or twice a year and the details are published on OzBargain, the same question pops up each time.

      • Thanks! I did one of the last promotions but that one required a voucher print out which stated the colour match…

Think they have given up on the voucher system :)

      • i don't think valspar don't produce any semi-gloss paints

anyway, they usually have a paint sale a short while after the paint sample giveaway

          i don't think valspar don't produce any semi-gloss paints

So you think they do?? :-/

        • i really should read what i write :) no semi-gloss. they've got a satin finish which is a bit above low-sheen but no semi-gloss

      • It is a semi-gloss finish.

I wish! Would be good for trim. No, it is low sheen.

      • My bad, I know what I meant :) Somewhere shinier than flat, but less than gloss. The interior paint samples are low sheen, but come in flat, low sheen or satin if purchased.

  • How long can sample pots are good for if unopened?

I still have about 6 from last time they did free sample pots.

I'm not a hoarder, I just have a project that needs different colours of paint… I promise.

As long as the tin remains sealed they should last for many years. What you do is turn the tins upside down periodically to keep the lid sealed. I have some paint that is more than 20 years old and is still usable. Obviously the less air in the tin the better, i.e. a full tin will last longer than a tin with a little paint in the bottom.

In the last Masters free sample deal we managed to get 27 tins and this was enough to paint the lounge feature wall, entry and passage!! All for free, except for a little fuel and time. Fortunately we have 3 masters within an easy drive.

  • thanks..

Note the quality of sample pots are not very high. That's why the are called Sample pots. It is to test the colour, but does not give the same finish as the 4lt tins etc. But still good for touch ups.

    • What evidence do you have for this? I recently got sample pots as well as a 4 litre tin of Valspar. In my experience they are the same!

Now if you compare paints I have found that Taubmans is far smoother and easier to apply than Valspar. Taubmans costs more but the coverage is far better. As for Valspas' claim of a single cost cover (as per their advertisements), I found that you needed at least 2 coats to cover the previous paint colour.

  • I got 2 tins from this promo and did a feature wall! :D looks very nice :) will post a photo!
