DxO Optics Pro 8 Completely Free for a Limited Time

530

This is a photography editing software. Great for people that shoot raw. Has a great database of lenses and cameras to automatically enhance and correct lens distortions.

To get your free license of DxO Optics Pro 8, please enter your email address before January, 31st February, 28th 2015.

I've purchased this version 8 a while back and can highly recommended it! Version 9 is better and has nicer features but it's CPU hungry and will run slower on older computers.

Looks like version 10 is coming soon too. So grabbing this now may qualify you for an upgrade discount price. However as Hippo2s' comment below this free version is not upgradable.

  • Nice one mate! Cheers :-)

Oh the confirmation page it states the free license is not upgradeable. Certainly doesnt hurt to grab v8 tho!

Before we know it, v9 will be a freebie too. But I'm quite happy with v8… it's an upgrade to the freebie v7 I got a few months ago anyway.

  • Thanks!

  • thanks..

  • Used it before, used to be a fan, but the bugs and poor support mean I won't bother going back to it even if it's free.
Did I mention it was slow as hell to edit files AND you can't do any work while it's processing files? I can edit and export 10 files in LR in the time it takes to edit 3 files in DXO

Also remember camera support depends on version, so any cameras released in the past 2 years won't be supported. Not just raws, they also block jpgs. Also full frame cameras aren't supported in the normal version.

    • Which version did you use? Version 8 works fine with my old 2008 Mac Book Pro with 8GB RAM.

I think DXO is based in France.. sales support was prompt but not helpful in my experience either. I bought version 8 just before they released 9 and was annoyed that I wasn't getting a free upgrade or at least a discounted upgrade.

My camera and lenses are over 2 years old so no problem there.

I've tried using Lightroom but I prefer editing my Raw photos with DXO, it just auto corrects everything too easy for me. I can also copy settings from a photo and then paste to others.

Some friend photographers use DXO just to correct lens distortions and then they edit their photos in Lightroom.

Also bought their DXO Film Pack but hardly use it. Personally I prefer sharp realistic looking photos without filters.

    • Lightroom whilst great costs $170+ retail.

This is free so those wanting to give post processing a try, can have a go at it for free.

If/when they decide it's worth their while, they can pay for LR.

With regards to camera compatibility, there is a link on the page listing exactly which devices are supported.

Anyone with FF gear is not going to give a second thought to paying for LR/Photoshop.

      • This software has a cult following and is worthwhile + a good find.

However note there's a lot of free and legal photo editing software out there for anyone who wants to try under a wide variety of licenses. GIMP, Picasa, Paint.NET, Irfanview, XnView, ImageMagick, Farstone, RawTherapee, UFRaw, exiftool to name just a few…then there are specialist tools for everything from art filters to Astronomy..

  • I've submitted my request three times since last night so far for a serial number and never receive one. I don't think their key system is working.

    • I've done it twice not working. Anyone had an email confirmation come through?

      • +3

I found out why it wasn't working. For the captcha you have to enter lower case letters even though it shows upper case. For some reason if you do upper case it won't accept it even though you press the submit button.

        • Strange, email still not coming through with this trick….

        • +2

          @tghtas:

Came through on mine. Check your spam or junk mail folder?.

        • +2

@tghtas: Try a different Browser. It works in Firefox (Chrome wasn't working)

          This is what I did:

          • Entered email.
          • Entered Captcha (ALL CAPS).
          • Unchecked then checked "Yes, please send me information about the DxO Labs products."
          • Hit Submit

Then I was taken to their Download/Confirmation page with this message:

Thank you for your interest in DxO Optics Pro

Your activation code has been automatically sent to you by email.
We wish you an enjoyable experience with your software.

Please note that your free license is not upgradeable.

Licence code was emailed straight away with download links for Windows and Mac.

        • @Mahalo: Thanks! I was using Safari, and it would just give me an endless loop, whether i entered captcha in upper or lower-case.

      • Have you claimed this offer already before?

Worked for me on an email address I don't use as often. I suspect some people might have it fail silently because they've already claimed their key previously. I think that's what was happening for me?

        • It took me 1/6 dozen attempts before it finally went through. Always typing in the same email/info/format (lower case captcha).

      • +1

I tried at it again and the serial code now shows up on the page with the download links. First line of the paragraph in bold. Not sure if it was there all along or not….

        • Yup, serial now appears on that 2nd download page. it didn't before. Oddly enough using lowercase for the capture sequence worked whereas now it seems only uppercase is accepted?

    • I've tried with 3 email addresses twice each and still no license after 24hrs!!

Maybe tomorrow given the time difference and DxO sorting through stacks of grumpy feedback emails?

      • Still nothing here either

  • hmm does this one support with Lumia 1020 format? sorry, i'm new to this.. I downloaded DxO 9 before..

  • It took me about a dozen goes for the page to actually work properly.
I'd guess the back end server is probably busy with all these freebie requests. Just keep trying.
    Thanks for the post !

    • Works first time up today.
