  • Good catch.

  • Thinking to transfer from Telstra prepaid into this plan for few months as it only cost $25 per month.Thanks.

    • If you're on Telstra Encore offer then you'll lose this if you leave for Vodafone. Encore is no longer available and the new equivalent does not allow you to buy additional data with the credits you have.

  • Damm this is an incredible deal! 3gb data as well as the $5 a day overseas plan.. Def worth getting!!

    • Incredible deal is a bundled iPhone5 for $240 (earlier this year) and up to 14GB data for $44/m. (Similar deal was also available for a couple weeks three years ago)

Not to mention the people on Vodafone flexicredit prior to July still being able to buy up to a similar amount of data with flexicredit.

This is just a good deal :)

  • Can you actually buy this online? Redirects you to the main Vodafone site and asks you to choose a phone…

    • +2

No, you need to get it from Allphones

  • great deal

  • Can we call the vodafone to match it?

  • +1

Can anyone on Vodafone in Sydney comment if there has been improvement on the data connectivity and speed?

    • +3

I'm always doing speed tests with my work telstra mobile and Vodafone personal phone all over the Sydney city cbd "cos I love technology and I'm a, little sad" and Vodafone consistently beats telstra with every speed test by at least 20%.

      • Same here in Perth. Work phone is Telstra, personal phone is Vodafone. Telstra's in-building coverage is better but Vodafone 4G blows the socks off Telstra 4G in terms of data speed.

      • +1

I'm in Sydney, my 4G with Voda is appallingly slow and coverage is pretty crap too. Nothing ever loads properly unless I wait a minute…not sure if it has anything to do with my $30 plan and getting 300mb?

        • +1

It probably has more to do with your handset.

        • It probably does. If you are on an older Vodafone plan you do not get access to 4g data speeds unless you add a $10 data pack to your plan. Same thing happened to me when I tried staying on the old $45 infinite plan. Had to switch to a new plan to get 4g or pay for the data pack

    • +1

Good good, but in some locations the network coverage is very unsatisfied, take Macquarie university as an example, i don't receive any signal in the library.

    • I have been told that the speed test is deceptive when comparing Telstra and Vodafone in Australia as they use 2 different technologies for 4G. "Apparently" Vodafone provides the fastest data in Australia if the number of users remain under a certain amount but then drops dramatically once it's loaded. Whereas Telstra are designed to carry more data at once but lower peak speed(not sure how much lower)

Which means Telstra will be better for the end user unless you are in an area where there are very few people using data at that point in time.

      • That's "interesting". Any references for technical details? I'd be curious to know more, thanks.

        • Sorry I don't have evidence.

      • Telstra uses a system which spreads the load across their two spectrums but their total load is 10Mhz
Where as Vodafone have a single 20mhz spectrum meaning they can have twice the users before affecting data speed
Vodafone is launching 4g on their 850 frequency this year and this will further improve load however data speeds on the 850 is slower but not by much.

        • Sorry, if I am understanding you correctly, you are saying: Telstra has 10Mhz total and Vodafone has 20Mhz total and Vodafone currently has twice the load capacity of Telstra? So Vodafone is better in every way when it comes to data? If this is what you are saying, then please let us know where you sourced the info?
My info was sourced from a tech designing the technology, hence I can only provide a vague description as I am uncertain how confidential the info is.

  • After 6 months, how can we can this plan?

    • Change to a prepaid plan, you can always get a discount when you recharge.

      • *cancel this plan. So just call Vodafone and tell them to cancel this or go to Allphones?

    • +1

Its only a 1 month commitment. Just port out to another provider when the discount finishes.

  • +1

seems like a good alternative to Amaysim (following their price rise) for the next six months

    • +1

Much better as IT includes international calls and message

  • Will be moving to this plan from rewardmobile. Paying $40 for 4 gigs but I think its billed per 10kb. This is per KB correcT?

Current Deal Save 50% on SIM Only Access fees for 6 months with the Vodafone $50 SIM Only plan. - -$25.00
    (For 6 months) -$150.00
    Grand Total $0.00 $50.00 $1,050.00
    * Contract term is monthly - this total represents the estimated cost if you stayed for 24 months.

Doesn't this mean that the 50% off applies for the 6 months only if you sign up for 24 months? Am I missing a trick?

    • +1

O.o It literally means what it states.

      • Contract term is monthly - this total represents the estimated cost if you stayed for 24 months.

The plan is monthly, the cost for 6 months is $150. If you stayed for 24 months (which is not required, its just an example), then its ($25 x 6months ) + (18months remaining x $50 ) = $1050

  • I saw one like this !by same carrier & plan name) at an On the Run in SA, recently…

but they listed ~ 8 countries, to which unlimited calls (incl to their mobiles) were included. Aren't all Red Caps the same with Voda…?

  • Damn, I just signed up 10 days ago on the Dick Smith $35/month promo for the $50 Red Sim plan.

  • I went to a Vodafone store in Melbourne CBD (near Collins x Elizabeth) to sign up for the $50 SIM only plan and the same deal OP mentioned applies so you don't have to go to Allphones.

I think this offer is running until the first week of November as mentioned on a leaflet they had in store.

I was previously an Optus customer.

    • Did you have to be an existing customer?

      • -1

I was previously an Optus customer.

      • You may be right, I was a Vodafone customer 2 years ago and my account still exists in their system.

  • Just visited the all phone store
Its for existing customers only wen they add second service..

    • Oh no! Are you sure?

  • +1

Is there a coupon code by any chance to use at the Vodafone site?

    • If one needs to be an existing customer, why dont we do the following:

      1) sign up on the $35 sim only plan. Apply the code save25. This will bring the cost down to $10 for the first primary service.
      2) Wait a few days until activated, and then apply for the $50 red sim and score the $25/month discount for 6 months.

I did something similar for the 4g wifi modem which was advertised a few weeks ago. There is a big discussion on this. It worked fine. I just had to cancel the first service within the month to avoid any unnecessary charges etc.

  • the 300 min calls to international numbers, what countries are included?

  • Looks like only at ALlphones.

  • Yes sure
I went to both all phones and vodafone

  • +1

The Allphones page doesn't seem to mention anything about this deal today?

  • They've actually just removed the deal from the AllPhones website, and when I called my nearest store, they kept insisting that it was only for a second service added to an existing account holder.

  • +1

Yep. Page just updated when I was in AllPhones. So it was just a website error. Grrr annoying!

  • Been to couple of allphones and vodafones. All said existing customers only. Not even prepaid account. Hehe

  • ohh we should have had print screens of that offer redirected to the Fair trading office.
not a good way of advertising.

  • Can confirm, you have to be an existing vodafone customer currently on a plan to be eligible for this. Biggest bullshit, as yesterday the ad mentioned it was for new customers.

  • this is bullsh*t.. we just went in and it's only on the SECOND sim you buy.. what's the point of having two fones contracts just to get a half price second sim. ridiculous.

  • Yeah I went down to the city this morning to get the deal and the Voda guy said it's for existing customers. It's not their fault and you can see the correct offer around the store so it's really on Allphones with this. I ended up switching anyways from Telstra and the Telstra service at home and the office is crap and the voda service was much better (just bought a $2 sim and tested it) . Will try out the $5 roaming when overseas next week which is a zillion times better than the bulldust telstra business international data packs!

  • I went into the Allphones store that is part of the Samsung Store on George St in Sydney CBD. After wasting an hour on identity and credit checks there, I was then told that the offer had been taken down (even though the original ad clearly says it'll be up until 4 November) and asked if I wanted to go ahead at the full price. I called Vodafone and they refused to do anything about it (no surprise). Long shot, but I've just lobbed a complaint into NSW Fair Trading together with a screenshot of the original ad (to my mind, this is a clear case of 'bait and switch' advertising - I just don't believe these things happen by accident).

  • As an existing Vodafone customer, I've successfully changed over to this plan and here's how I did it.

    1. Refer to this 4G Pocket Wifi deal and get yourself one of those as an existing customer, preferably in store so you get the product and activate it almost instantly - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/167312

    2. Now that you have 2 services under Vodafone, port your existing number out to a pre-paid service. In my case I chose to port to Optus and did it free of charge by walking into an Optus store and asking for a $2 blank sim and tell them you want to port. (My Vodafone Postpaid to Optus Prepaid Port took under 20min to complete, cost $0)

    3. Walk yourself back to Vodafone store and ask to be connected to this $50 RED SIM 50% off MTM offer on the mobile number that you've just ported out. (Optus Prepaid back to Vodafone Postpaid Port took 10~15min to complete) - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/158268

If you follow the steps above and manage to go between the two stores (eg. when they are next to each other in a mall) you should be able to do everything comfortably in less than an hour.

All you need is to bring 100 Point ID and sign a few papers. Total cost of this is $20 by obtaining the 4G Pocket Wifi device and that gets you 2.5GB of data.

Disclaimer This is how I've obtained it, does not guarantee it will work in your circumstances, please take my advice as a suggestion.

    • When you say 'existing Vodafone customer' does that mean your on a plan. I am a prepaid customer can i still do as you suggest?

      • They're still seeking lines of credit so unlikely, not generally available yet.

        • Sorry i don't understand, 'they're still seeking lines of credit'?

        • @absolutec:

My bad. 1 mo is all it may take to get to an excess (bill) metering, to which end one may be charged an equivalent to many modems , perhaps in overreach. Staying prepaid FWIW

    • This is gold. Thanks for sharing. I followed the steps, and luckily, Optus is having promo for $30 mth2mth where first mth's free when you switch from another provider.

      • What does the Optus promo have to do with this deal and the steps zen mentioned?

        • one wouldn't need to pay $2 just to get an optus sim?

  • Glad my instructions were able to benefit you guys. I went on porting to a prepaid account route for simplicity and not having to go through a credit check procedure.

In the end my $2 SIM didn't even cost anything as the Optus Store staff was kind enough to do it for free.

    • (T.T) should have gone the prepaid route, apparently there's a $8 fee for porting out of Optus network.
