Note: the cooking time on the label is the bare minimum. Plan on adding a lot more and be sure to measure the internal temperature of the meat.

Did you completely thaw it before cooking? If so, you might want to check the temperature of your oven, in mine it would be very over-done by the time the recommended cooking duration is reached.

I wonder whether this duck was farmed without water. —>http://www.smh.com.au/business/peking-duck-fans-targeted-in-animal-welfare-ad-blitz-in-chinatown-20141103-11ey7c.html

    • I assume they changed after getting taken to court (and losing I believe) but see here

    • peking duck. very tasty. one of the best places is the all-you-can-eat buffet. ten plates of ducks for less $25.

      • Peking ducks my favourite dish. I've never been to an all you can eat though that had it on offer.

      • which buffet place has peking duck on offer? i havent came across that.

        • +1

only ever seen it at atrium at crown (perth). however the duck supply was rather restricted.

        • you guys should try a few rsl clubs. i'm in sydney so i go to merrylands rsl. there should be more clubs around aus that offer ducks. just look for those that are run by the chinese.

          edit
the chinese run buffets are usually cheaper than the 4 or 5 star hotels. they also taste better.

        • @whooah1979: unfortunately not that many in perth.

    • It is a very tough issue. Having farms with water would add significant costs/risks through:
      1. having to clean the ponds/pools
      2. if they are open air dams then there is a massive risk of disease/contamination through migrating birds which you definitely do not want. Once one bird is infected, basically the entire flock needs to be killed.
Unsure how you would ethically farm ducks at a decent price….

anyone got a tasty duck recipe?

  • Get the duck out!

If you can't get the stock, ask for a raincheck, for whatever amount you want, then come back to get it within a year time, Coles will honour it, you get it at the discounted price.

    • Coles in Earlwood (NSW) was super stingy when i tried to get a raincheck for duck last time. They refused to give me a raincheck and accused me of getting multiple duck rainchecks on previous occasions.

      • complain to head office - they'll get whats coming to them!

        • I got down the staff member's name and complained to the the store manager. I got a apology over the phone. I doubt the staff member was ever disciplined.

I was checking my catalogue to see if it was in Sydney. The duck has no rainchecks, see here http://puu.sh/cUi3L/64a23c6dec.jpg

      • You're right, they've learnt their lesson. Last time they didn't have the 'no rainchecks' line

Thanks, can we get rainchecks even if there's stock?

    • i guess not, need to make more room then!

If you live in an area with a largish 1st or 2nd generation migrant population expect these to be sold out in 5 mins.

  • +1

Sorry, I'm waiting for a frozen goose special.

  • Man, I have been looking forward to this one.
Duck in the Ozbargain Weber mmmm-mmmm cannot wait. Lots of Chinese families in my area so will have to head to Coles on Weds A.M. otherwise no duck for me! Remember folks, no rainchecks with the duck, so don't quack it if you get told to duck off when asking.

    Regarding Peking Duck in Melb:

    I agree with 1 and 3, but no Simon's?

  • put 12 on layby and have duck every month of the year…

  • Link just goes to
    Coles.com.au. ??

I've still got 3 ducks in the freezer from the last deal earlier this year :)
Going to give Weber Q roasted duck a try this weekend.

    • You can freeze poultry I believe for 3 months past their due date and up to 10 months for beef/lamb…

      • +1

Freezing guidelines only apply to the quality of the food. There's no health risk to keeping it frozen for longer, at least. A whole, uncooked duck should last several months up to a year without significant loss of quality. Less for individual pieces or cooked poultry.
On the other hand, consider that this duck has probably already been sitting around frozen for a while…

  • http://www.coles.com.au/catalogues/weekly/next/c-nsw-met/ind… for my catalogue. Whole chicken $3 a kg is pretty good.

  • Catalogue says - Limit 6 No rain checks

  • +1

    Definitely getting onto this.

Only really got into duck the last couple of years.

Going to try and make a hoisin crispy skin duck…

  • There were 6 ducks in the freezer at Firle, S.A. when I went through on a midnight bargain hunt.

I left left one ground 500g Lavazza on the shelf as well

  • got to my local store at 8.30am. all gone!! o.o

    • Out for a duck? =p

  • Got two ducks thanks OP.
People lining up since early AM according to the checkout chick

  • There were so many ducks left in Belconnen, ACT, if anyone is interested.

  • +1

Just got 2 ducks at Southern Cross Coles if anyone else is looking for them.

    • Thanks you're a legend. Never any ducks in my area so I went straight here and grabbed 4.
Was still another 4-5 there when I left (although could be more if they top-up).

  • Got 3 via click and collect, no problem. :)
