  • Interesting, will pop into my local one tommorow.

  • Worth noting as per the photo that it only applies to those two specific older style starter kits, these have been reduced to $15 themselves at the PO for awhile (although this deal is obviously very good)

    • howis it different to teh new kits ?

      • Branding/packaging is all, these also with have a shorter expiry (nothing past jun15 in my experience)

    • But you can still swap the SIM sizes at Telstra stores, right?

      • Certinally :)

  • +1

$25 uber ride, $45 google play credit AND the calling/texting allowance! all for $15 lol.

    • +2

      $25 uber ride

      More info please

    • How to get 45 Google play?

      • +2

You can bill your google play purchases to a prepaid telstra. So you buy $15 recharge to get free $30 starter kit then recharge the new number with the $15 credit.

        • $15 is data recharge only I believe, on freedom plan anyway.

    • how do you get $45 google play credit ?

  • +1

What do you mean by $25 Uber ride?

    • new number

      • More info please…

        • +2

Sign up uber with that new number and there is your $25 credit.

      • Got it

OMG… Got SO MANY TELSTRA PREPAID STARTER KIT ALRDY, ANOTHER BARGAIN

  • It's illegal to sell telecommunications vouchers or SIM cards on eBay. I tried to do it last time and it got taken down due to policy violations .. Just so u know

    • Lots of vouchers and sim listings on EBay but I always wondered how they get away with it since you need to present ID when buying a sim.

      • +2

I've never had to provide ID when buying a SIM card. Sure, when you active it you need to provide some sort of identification but not when you buy them from a petrol station.

      • +1

they get away with it because people don't report them I guess
there is that "report" button on ebay ads which you can press and then ebay will investigate any policy violations.
guess when I was trying to offload one of my sim cards,. one of those competitors reported me….

  • Could also set it up and then use credit me2u to existing number :)

    • On freedom $15 adds data but no main credit.

      • I meant from the new sim. $30 will give "real money" and can then transfer that to existing sim.

Does anyone know if the $15 recharge can be used to extend an existing account another 6 months if I switch to long life before recharging?

    • +3

I'm pretty sure you need a $30 recharge to get 6 months on long life, I switch to long life recharge $30 then switch back to simplicity for 6 months expiry with simplicity rates.

      • This is what I'm doing but it always asks for at least a $20 recharge before the simplicity rates can be reapplied. Is there any way around this?

        • Although the SMSs states that, it's not true. Simplicity rates are enabled as soon as you change your offer.

        • Thanks, that's great to know.

    • AFAIK $15 recharge is only good for getting 1GB data valid for 14 days on the Freedom plan.

    • I see, thanks.

    • +1

If your accounts can do credit me2u then what you can do is just send $1 from one account to the other every 2 weeks.

Every time you do this, it extends the expiry by 14 days. The transaction fee for sending credit this way is 25 cents.

So every 2 weeks, send one dollar to your main number, then use the number to bounce back $1.

Total cost per 2 weeks is 50 cents, $15 you can extend expiry dates for 15 months on 2 sims :)

Add 25cents per sim card you want to extend in this way (just send the credit in a circle).

The added benefit of this is you can be on any plan you want as long as it allows credit me2u. So choose one with really low data rates and/or call rates and screw the expiry lengths.

Of course it's a pain in the ass but oh well.

Just don't tell too many people or Telstra might do something to end this trick :p They kinda did already with the new tablet data plans that can make phone calls.

  • i am currently with optus. can i use $30 starter kit and port my number to telstra, use the $30 then when that finishes use the $15 recharge? can i buy a few starter packs and keep doing this with same number?

  • Do people use i-phones with T?
Surprised there are still many getting by on 1-2 gbytes..especially these days
makes flash memory seem cheap >.<

    Vs :
    Have a zoomable 40(->500)mbytes + Talk, anytime; single Sim w. 'yes4G(*)
*exploit I use is small app, Phone schedule/ 11.55pm 'turn data off' *repeat.

Kitkat's kill switch is pretty effective to warn+disable data for 35MB/480MB & so on
6 months means i use any way i like..<7gb. Pretty sweet

daver I put your comment in google translate, and it didn't work.

Can you please explain it, a little different, maybe type a little slower for me.

I use an iPhone with T (Boost) as I won't sacrifice the coverage.

      • +1

Not need to translate… Optus 4G is so crap that they can give you 10G a month, but good luck just using 1G.

        • +1

But at the moment vodafone is killing it, and about to get a whole lot better now they're enabling 4G on every tower that currently has 3G 850 with the flick of a switch.

I left vodafone a few years ago but now I'm back as a very happy customer.

        • @DarkRyoushii:
          Totally agree….

Two IP5s on Vodafone and very impressive performance in most places.

At place where it doesn't has signal. I can always switch back to my Telstra 3G $10 a month Friends and famaily Sim :P

And what is Optus doing…..DAY DREAMING!!!!

    • Drat..I chose the wrong plan. Optus shows I've You've used 96.29 % of your 380 MB Data allowance. Apparently w. "$4.50" today (or 2.25 real dollars) lel.

Of course there's a rundown in full from a few months back…
      http://www.whistleout.com.au/MobilePhones/News/Optus-1-dolla…
So it's the other one would have allowed me <7 gybtes to use Tablet-style.

OTOH, my 4.50/.38 translates to $11.842-per gb; yielding rather 2.533 gb/pm,
suitable for a phone's usage +900 mins Voice.
Perhaps more meaningful for -wireless IPs-, i get a typical mean.opinion.score 4.37 or connection grade "B," currently in peak which I presume compares with big t ?

Almost certainly i know where I am getting best coverage +google play credit from (ie more often T :D…

Not at my local post office. Not in the cataloge. Where was OP located? Is this nationwide? Has anyone else had any luck this morning?

    • +1

I don't bother with these AusPost deals. None of the AusPost near me ever have the items.

    • Yes, nationwide.

      • how is it nationwide?

Not at my local post office either

        • As far as I know some AusPost are just franchisees.

So chances are select franchisees choose not to participate in the deal.

The same thing happened with discounted gift cards from AusPost a while back. Some franchisees had stock but choose not to sell for the discounted price, some don't stock gift cards at all.

        • @natsumezoku:

No mention of it at Adelaide CBD shop, which believe is not a franchise. I didn't ask for confirmation though as there was a huge queue.

They did have half price starter packs though.

    • Confirmed with Blacktown Westpoint Aus Post. Bought $40 recharge this morning(which what I normally get to share between our 3 prepaid phones monthly via Credit Me2U)and got the normal sim starter kit. The lady who served me didn't know about it but was kind and patient enough to check with the manager, and he confirmed that they were for the clearance starter kits.

However in the afternoon, when I had to pick up parcel from Blacktown Post Office directly opposite the station, they said no old/clearance stock, so they couldn't do the deal for me. Gotta admit they weren't very helpful, trying to get me out of there ASAP as it was close to their closing time I guess lol

      HTH

Same here, they never heard of it, never seen it, I even spoke with the manager, showed then the photo, nada amigos!

    • that means only at the corporate post office ~ that means long queue, and not within walking distance :(

Just buy a $15 recharge and let the staff scan the barcode from a new $30 SIM Starter Pack.

The POS machine should immediately deduct the price.

    • Went to 2 post office melbourne and none have heard this????

    • just bought a $15 recharge and the $30 SIM Starter Pack didnt deduct…

      Paid $15 for a $15 recharge :(

      • +3

Why didn't you just say 'No Thanks' and walk out without buying the $15 voucher?

    • which state?

  • NVM

  • Just got the deal from Docklands Melbourne PO. Went straight through, no problem. Was the last sim pack there though.
Now just to work out how to use it all up on Google Play.

Just bought it at aust post on castlereagh st near sydney town hall. Couldn't find the kits on display but I eventually found the promotion card. Bought the $15 recharge at counter and asked for the sim. Guy had no idea. Fortunately the supervisor was walking past and overheard and told him just to grab a sim. He disappeared into the back room and came back with the $2 one and I had to send him back to grab the $30. Then he made me fill in the form to get the sim and now I'm a happy camper. Expiry was 12 Apr 2015.

    • Thanks Mobo - I tried the same aust post and was able to get it

  • Went to Burwood post office & they had no idea about this deal. Couldn't get it.

  • It's not national, as the local stores don't have them.
The pic attached reads "clearance" (most of its clipped in pic)
So I guess it's only stores having that particular stock n put it up as clearance.

  • no issues

went in grabbed sim pack showed service rep my phone with promo add

she checked with manager who couldnt find the promo but item scanned at $0 after she choose $15 recharge in system

    hope this helps

    • perhaps $15 is the catch I asked for $30 recharge hmm ..
Staff scanned and came up with nothing on the receipt,
Got the staff to refund and credit back.

      • i dont know i just got the $15 as it was the cheapest ??

well to be specific the sim card scanned at 1c …

      • I bought $40 recharge voucher and it worked for me, I'm guessing it's store specific or stock specific, as they are clearing the old starter kits…

  • +1

You can use the credit to unlock your Telstra phone. $15 same price as bagman.

Plus the unlock cost $27.50 after 6 months from activation. You still have $17.50 left over to spend on google play store.

    • Wow I didn't know I can use the credit to unlock phone. Thank you so much for sharing the info :)

  • Just got 2 of these at the Parramatta Westfield AusPost. Awesome Deal $15 recharge + 1c for the $30 SIM Pack! The lady at the counter didn't know about it but I shared the pic and the manager knew about it. Thanks OP!

  • Just picked one up with my $30 recharge. This is at Chester Hill (NSW) post shop. It was not advertised but the staff knew about it. There was a brochure or info card at the back of the counter which one staff referred to when I asked how long it was running. Apparently it runs for 2 weeks and ends today I think. They still have several packs. I got a microsim type. They agreed it was a good deal for 1 cent.

  • How can you unlock telstra phones with these can someone please enlighten us

  • Still valid if you can find stock. Got 2 today from blacktown westpoint. Thanks op.

  • HA ! and the manager had no idea when I asked him !

  • Been to two aus post noone knows about the deal. What should I do?

  • This is still going - got one just now from the TTP store (Adelaide) with a $30 recharge.

Lady at the counter had no idea but a manager confirmed the deal is still going.

I didn't have to provide ID either.

EDIT: expiry is 12 April 2015
