    Great remote, great price.

  • Q: What to get the guy with a Harmony Remote for Christmas?
    A: Another one!

  • amazing, I bought this remote 2 years ago from logitechshop on ebay for $35 delivered and the price still still remain the same. It's very good and sturdy remote. with backlit keyboard you will never press the wrong button any more.

    • +1

And now controls 8 remotes when initially it could only control 5.

  • The Ebay link says this remote replaces 5 remotes - not 8 as listed on the Ozbargain page.

    • +6

      Software update makes it 8.

      • If it's new stock will it still need the update?

        • +1

The updates all happen as soon as you connect it to your computer for the initial configuration.
So whether it needs it or not, doesn't matter.

        • I've got brand new iPhone 6+ and still required update before allowed me to restored.

So I believed new firmware or software improved it from 5 to 8.

        • @sky6688: Does the iPhone update stop it from bending? Or did the update restore the phone from being bent?

        • -6

So we're not negging for comparing the remote to an iPhone, but we are negging for making a joke about said iPhone? Just to be clear?

        • @norkle:

You can find out the answer of getting yourself a new iPhone 6 Plus and test it yourself.

So far, my iPhone 6 Plus are good.

      • Cool, thanks!

      • It's time to update then :)

    • Refer to officiall logitech specifications http://www.logitech.com/en-au/product/harmony-remote-650

  • Thank you unity.

  • I've still go a Harmony One, which I believe was replaced by the Harmony Touch that gets some criticism for button locations.

How's this 650 compare with the one? In some ways I think the hard buttons beside the screen are possibly better than the touch screen options.

Replaceable standard batteries (Eneloops!) beats replaceable/inflatable pay-through-the-nose Logitech battery packs.

      • Inflatable batteries? What will Logitech think of next!

        • +1

          Inflatable girlfriends? No wait whaaa??

So does that mean reconditioning chargers can now be marketed as battery puncture repair kits?

        • Their battery packs are known to expand and become difficult to remove. Mine did - both the originals and 'genuine' (ie. counterfeit) replacements.

  • I only got mine a few months ago and now it won't sync with my laptop.

Edit: Well, at least it hasn't for the last couple of weeks. I just tried it again now, and bam! It's working.

  • My old Logitech 525 broke a few weeks ago. I saw this on Sunday, couldn't wait for it to deliver ($42 delivered) so went to Officeworks and price beat, got it for $44.60.

    • +1

Still have a 525 here, nice to know your find this a suitable replacement.

Thanks also to those who explained the 8 device support, which was why I'd ignored it in the past.

  • Got this a few years ago for about $40. Fairly simple to set up and works flawlessly. If u have a bunch of remotes cluttering up yo coffee table, u r dumb not to grab one.

    • Yeh time to bite the bullet I think.

  • You think it could control my hdmi switcher http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=AC1705

    • +1

Yes. This remote has a receiver on the back you can use to "teach it" functions of other remotes.

I have this remote but the OK button fell off after about 12 months. Kind of disappointed about that.

Internet setup is always going to put me off with these. What happens if Logitech goes under or decides to axe the service? Can these remotes work without MyHarmony?

    • The amount of money Logitech must make out of these, I very much doubt they are going away for a long time.

      Founded: (October 2, 1981)

Harmonys have been a product of theirs for at least 8 years now.

      • +1

Actually, Logitech was going to sell off its Harmony brand, among other things, in 2013 but changed their mind.

      • Sorry but the list of companies that have either withdrawn a service (just look at multiplayer gaming and online servers for older versions), been bought out, or just plain gone bankrupt is long and distinguished. Your assurances give me no confidence.

        • Online games (sadly) have a lot shorter lifespan than 'physical' products.
          Although both have server infrastructure.

        • @Lukian:

The dependency is artificial in this case. Having the whole thing out in the cloud with no local app is a deliberate strategy. Planned obsolescence.

    • +3

What happens if your hands abruptly drop off one day? Can these remotes work without MyHands?

      • Yes you can use it with your nose. At a pinch with your chin.

        You've named yourself well.

        • Only a joke buddy, at least a few people were amused…

Besides, you cant really expect a lifelong service committment for a $40 piece of chinese electronics!

Also, i own one of these and u def couldnt use with your nose or chin…. But once you set it up it should last for the life of the equipment u pair it with even if they stop the online management tool the day after you buy it…

          I win, cheers!

    • I agree, having to login in every time to set up the remote is really off putting, i wish they would just release stand alone offline software to configure these remotes.
Apart from that limitation the 650 is a great remote.

    • +1

You can only hope Logitech is not treating Harmony like Squeezebox.

  • Confused on price… How can you get pick up price on eBay store? Or do you have to go in store etc? It's the same price? Anyway I just bought one with delivery LOL.. Didn't want to miss out.. $42.60… Extra $5… I feel ashamed for paying an extra $5!!!!

  • Thanks, bought one.

  • Question about the buttons on the remote: Are they soft touch buttons or solid plastic buttons?
The reason I ask is that I had an older Harmony remote and the buttons were solid plastic and made a clicking sound each time one was pressed. I would prefer soft touch buttons which don't make noise when pressed.
Can someone who has a Logitech Harmony 650 remote already please let me know?
    Many thanks

    • Soft

      • Thank you

      • It depends…
I have 3 of these now (needed something for all the eneloops I purchased). The first 2 I've had for a while, and all the buttons are 'soft', but I bought one a few months ago from the Logitech Shop and half the buttons are 'soft', and the rest are hard (they click).
Also, the edges on the outer casing are little 'sharper'.

        shrugs

  • Grabbed one for upstairs…thanks

  • Got one. $37.60 for store pickup in Melbourne. Very good price at the moment. Thanks, it will get my working hard rubbish Topfield PVR into use.

    • These work great on Topfield PVRs (which have crap remotes), have you install the various TAP apps on your Topfield? these apps transform them into great PVRs - custom ad skip buttons, smart self adjusting timer search and record, auto move recordings into folders etc, etc.

    • just wondering what postcode did you use? It won't recognise any postcode I've used and comes up with this message: "There are no stores near you that carry this item. Please try a different postal code or address."

      • Hi DonlsGood, I used 3145 (Victoria). The store I selected for store pickup, Moorabbin, called me very soon after the order to say they were out of stock. They then asked me which store would be better for me to have them transfer the order to including the Chadstone store which was not on the list I was offered on eBay. The Chadstone store is actually closer to me than Moorabbin so it worked out well.

  • Please tell me it works with TBOX - I am so over my TBOX remote

  • No stores near me had stock. In Melbourne there' still Frankston, Essendon Airport and Hoppers Crossing. $42.60 delivered is still a great price. Perfect as I'm getting my Intel NUC this week.

  • Didn't pull the trigger. Looks too complicated.

  • Argh!Just paid $47 at OW for one of these last week! Oh well!

  • 400 remotes sold. Well done guys.

  • At $47 now? Expired?

    • @norkle
      - did you do the "CBIGXMAS" bizo ?

      • +1

Sry, brain fart, you are quite right, NOT expired.

        • +1

          1 minute later… Expired :-P

        • @muncan:

          Yep ended Midnight AEDT

  • got it.. just in time

I purchased the Logitech Harmony Touch last week, and whilst it is a really good remote, I have to say that the lag is pretty noticeable.

Can anyone comment on whether this remote lags much or not?

    • Yep the lag on my TiVo is shockers. I've leant to go slow on the menus and wait for a response, otherwise TiVo goes off as if I've pressed a bunch of different buttons. I still miss the old software where there's more options to adjust delay settings.
