    I'll bite at $39. :)

    • Have they been that price before?

      • Yeah, if you look at the reviews, the reviewer mentions $39, though in 2011.

        • I purchased one brand new for $35 from harvey norman about 2 years ago. And I've seen them on ebay new for that price also

      • +2

Ozbargain shows $34 in 2013, and $30 in 2012. I do feel somewhat gypped when companies sell demonstrably old, unimproved products years later for significantly higher prices…

        • Actually it was 'improved' , it supports more than 5 devices now.

        • +2

It's improved heaps - supports 8 devices instead of 5 (which should cover the needs of most individuals) and the 5 steps per activity limitation has also been removed. I have 30+ steps in some activities and have not yet reached a limit.

          This is a great price.

        • +1

@Lukian,elektron: That was a firmware update, if you paid $30 for it in 2012 you would be able to control 8 devices today for free

        • Good point, but I wouldn't have bought it in 2012 because of the limitations it had at the time.

        • @elektron:

The old Harmony remote software 7.70 (last updated Jan 2010) is limited to only supporting a maximum of 5 devices.

For the harmony remote to support 8 devices you will need to change to an online myharmony.com account to setup your remote. This will allow you to transfer all the settings and config from your old harmony remote software account over to your new myharmony.com account and also manage multiple remotes with the one login.

        • +1

          @g12345567:

You don't need to setup online anymore, they now offer the program to download - https://setup.myharmony.com/
I far prefer this to the annoying web ones which was browser limited.

        • I didn't say I had issues with my 650 being limited to 5 devices. I only said that I wouldn't have bought it before when it was limited to 5 devices.

I don't have any experience with the old software as I have only had the 650 for a about half a year and have been using myharmony.com.

As I noted in another post, the other big improvement (besides supporting 8 devices) is the removal of the 5 steps per activity limitation. I have almost 40 steps for a BD player to launch a specific app using Sony's terrible interface. Couldn't have done it with a lesser remote.

      • I last bought one at $34 or $35. Same shop. Included shipping. Would've been late 2012 or early 2013.

        • Maybe they wanted to shift the old not upgraded stock, regular mums and dads probably have no clue about updating firmware.

        • @Jackson: regular oldies wouldnt have 3+ devices

    • +2

Officeworks price match + ING 5% off gets you close… $40.61

      • Will OW price match on online stores such as LogitechShop?

        • Keep reading, it's discussed further below.

  • +2

These harmony remotes are amazing… but the 650 model is getting very long in the tooth indeed. A million times better than any other brand on the market.

IMO it's totally worth buying this as a 'taster', and seeing how you use and adapt to it before pulling the trigger on Logitech's flagship "Touch" remote.

    • +12

I had one of the touch ones for years. It sucked, usability wise, compared to the cheaper models. Soft buttons are a pain unless you use the remote like an old person navigates ebay. I like to feel my buttons, not look at them.

      • I used to like the buttons on my Harmony 785 but then the ones I used to switch activities started dying on me. I love the touch on my Harmony One, although it's easier to hit the wrong activity on the odd occasion.

    • +2

A lot of people actually prefer the backlit physical buttons on the 650 to the touch of the Touch. I find that most of the time I don't actually have to look at the 650 to operate it.

    • got a touch, still might grab a 650 too.

    • +1

Wow, why would someone neg you? It's like people feel a need to censor any opinion other than theirs.

  • Ordered one from logitechshop ebay store, it's not $39, but still good value.

  • I want a Harmony One… my LCD screen is cracked; so I have to guess where each screen button is.
I don't know why they stopped making their best reviewed model.

I bought One for $129… best remote ever.

    • +1

I cracked my One screen too, searched all over for one at a decent price or a repair, could find neither. Purchased a 650 and I prefer it by a mile over the One. No more constant recharging or hitting wrong touch screen button. Great to have physical colour buttons again too. The size and weighting on the 650 is far better than the One as well. Also improves over the 525s I had and loved with quieter buttons.

  • +1

it's a good price for 650 as jbhifi is selling the same model for $84.95

    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/tv-home-entertainment/tv-accessori…

  • bought it for $27 about 2 years ago :S

  • not the best remote.. go harmony touch

    • +1

Care to explain why? At almost 4 times the price of the 650 I'd expect the Touch to read (or blow) my mind. What does it do that the 650 doesn't that I should care about? Have you used the new and improved 650?

      • is this 650 really new and improved?
My 650 often resets itself (yes I have update the software) so I prefer the 600 model.
Both do everything I need, but the 600 is more robust and reliable.

        • Interesting…I have had two for 6 months and have not had a single reset.

        • I'd prefer my 785(?) if the cradle actually charged :(

        • +2

Resetting is probably due to the batteries losing contact when the remote gets a jolt. See if you can jam something like folded up paper under the contacts, worked ok for me.

    • Best is relative. This remote is entry level, and if that is all you need then it is "the best".

I love mine. Works well, easy to program, and the battery lasts a pretty decent length. remembers he has to charge his

      • Actually, the entry level model is the 300. This one is more of a mid-range one and is fully featured.

  • My 650 has some oddities with TiVo in that sometimes menu commands are ignored. When I press another key, the original command is then sent plus the new command - anybody else having this problem?

    • I also use it with the Tivo but have not had that problem. I presume you have you tried resynching?

The one (minor) drawback I have found with it compared to the Tivo remote is that the Tivo remote is completely silent. The 650 tends to creak a little. Only matters when using in bed though.

      • I've probably synced 100 times from all the tiny adjustments I've made. I will try using it as a projectile and see if that helps. Maybe it's the delay settings. I do miss the old software, which I'm sure had more options.

        • Sorry to hear that, sounds frustrating as heck indeed. Sounds like you may have a defective one though as I have to and have not had any issues. I would suggest that you get in touch with Logitech Support.

  • -7

    Dont do it!

Its a piece of junk, worst remote I've ever used.

    • +1

care to elaborate for the people looking here…..?

    • +6

What other remote gives you this many buttons, and the flexibility to program almost anything you want into it, for the price?!

Possibly the problem is in between the chair and the remote. ;)

  • -3

the harmony remotes are not bad … but
    you have to have internet
    windows only
annoying software that you will never use uploading your info to the internets ( i cant actually confirm that ;)
    annoying sign up
    waive your anonymity
    bit heavy

pros … it does save you a whole lot of time cause some other frustrated early adopter has uploaded their profile.
    good battery life
I paid $10 for my harmony 300 … cause i lost one of the remotes
when i found the remote i went back to using it and the other remotes … it still gets used if its the closest remote

    • +1

Where do we get this said "internet" from?

And what's all this nonsense about signing up to a site with your details. I never sign up to sites.

    • +4

      windows only

Watch you talkn bout???? Has worked on OS X for years.

      • OS X isnt available for the commodore 64

but seriously if it runs on mac why cant it run on linux. bah
or maybe id like to configure it using my android device.
all it really needs to do is provide me with the config files for my my remotes … it really doesnt need to know my personal details and yet another forgotten login and password

    • +2

No dude, you just need a little foil cap and you're sorted. Oh, and don't use windows, or doors for that matter, you'll let the bad vibes in.

  • +1

Thanks purchased. Been meaning to get a universal remote for awhile

  • My 785 finally died last week and I'd forgotten how annoying it is having 5 remotes on the coffee table. I really wanted a ONE but after a week of losing auctions on eBay this will have to do.

    • I was in the same situation and really glad I didn't go for a second hand ONE (was trying to get one at a reasonable price for months). Too many stories about cracked screens and having to constantly recharge the internal battery.

On the other hand, I have read reviews of the 650 from former owners of the ONE or Touch (including in this thread) who find the 650 better in many ways.

I don't think the 650 is a downgrade at all.

      • See my earlier post, I prefer the 650 over my now broken One.

  • +1

thanks OP and thanks guys for the great comments to help me make my decision.

  • bought this 2 years ago from jb hifi for $24 discounted price. Tagged price was $27. funny how prices of the same product mysteriously goes up as it ages…surely its not a commodity.

    • +1

You'd think not, but due to lack of competition, Logitech remotes are a commodity.

  • Had a 700 or something. Garbage. Broke down after a year with buttons not working, recharging failing and light leaking under the buttons. Logitechshop didn't care.

  • I bought this about two years ago when I got the rest of my "bundle of upgrade goodies" (long-overdue shift to decent TV & sound).

It cannot ever remember how to turn on the internet radio on my AVR— never…It was disappointing as I thought it was supposed to "learn" by setting it up in proximity of the original remote, or afterwards using it's "help" menu. When I use help, it eventually works— but you have to do that every time?

If I want to move from that to standard free-to-air TV, it's worse (at least for me)- it keeps trying, one after the other, every possible location setting- asking "yes or no" every time, until it finally gets there…is this how all of them work or just this one? We cannot operate the USB port on the BD from it either, so we're back to 2 remotes.

Just tossing that out there in case someone is debating. You might want the better model.

    Cheers

    • Mate, that's just yours I think. I've had five of these (harmony remotes) and never had that trouble. I think I'd start with a new one, but apart from that, always use the software, not manual learning. Then, try adjusting the timing of the actions in your activity set up.

Finally, If Logitech don't have your avr in their service list it might be time for a new one, as they have thousands listed.

  • Got it just yesterday from OW for $59

Wanted them to price match DSE at $49 but DS raised the price yesterday back to $79 (they had it for $49 for a few days)

Anyone know if I can just pop back in store with receipt to get it price matched?

  • Nope no OW price match at my local store

Apparently logitechshop is grey import product no warranty from Logitech Aus. The actual Logitech site has it for $79.

Ymmv some stores may accept the logitechshop price

    • Seems strange. Logitech Shop are an authorised reseller All items come with full Logitech Australia support and warranty. Exactly the same as you get if you buy the product at Officeworks. Don't know why OW have LS still flagged as a Grey importer. Guess thay were getting too many price match requests and being rather picky.

      • Officeworks are denying price match now regularly with most stores on pretty flaky reasons (i.e. denied me a price match on shopping express because they said shopping express has a slightly different ink policy, and I was NOT buying ink). Officeworks are getting greedy and breaking the law, ACCC will soon get them.

I actually even got confirmation from Logitech itself on the status of LS and they said the same thing, authorised, not grey imports. Just don't bother with officeworks is my advise, not worth the time waste.

        • +1

i can confirm that. They get pretty stingy about their price matching policy, even if its matching the price of their overhead group aka Coles. Ill admit i copped a lot of flak for complaining about saving like $3, but i was pretty disgusted that OW has a policy that they dont honour

  • I've used this one before and it's a good basic remote.

I've been using two Harmony 900's (same as the Harmony One but with RF) for the past couple of years and have been happy with them. Just moved across to the Harmony Ultimate so I may stick my two Harmony 900's on eBay.

  • Got it from office works campbellfield for $42.75. Purchased with an additional 2 year warranty for an extra $5.

    • C'mon, you gotta learn about your statutory warranty rights, $42 can be expected to last at least 2 years IMO

      • and logitech australia are generally very good when it comes to warranty services. had a problem with my g700 giving false positives on clicks, told me to send the mouse back and they sent me a G700S

  • My 650 has been having dodgy button syndrome over the last year or so - I'm having to press very very hard with some of the buttons (all off, activities) and they intermittently work on and off now.

Had this remote for about 2 years also from ozb. No one else having issues with their buttons?

  • spillmill, with 2 kids under 5 in tow , I am not taking any chances. extended warranties on electronic goods has always worked for me.

  • I have a SAMSUNG Series 6 40inch (UA40ES6200M) TV w/o its remote.

When turned on, it's stuck at HDMI3 and says "Press Source on your remote control to select the connected source device."

Does anyone know if the source can be changed using this universal remote?

    • Yes it can. It can do everything your remote could do and more.

  • Back in stock.
