looks like its about to take off and bomb something

  • Looks good for people that live next to an Apartment or near one.

It will probably fix your congestion issues, but you will need to upgrade your network cards to Wifi ac.

I'd like to weigh in here.

I wouldn't bother with these, or most wireless routers if you don't mind going to the effort to setup a dedicated access point.

We use these at work: http://www.telcoantennas.com.au/site/ubiquiti-unifi-ap-long-…
Great range, great speeds and really reliable.

You're better off with a cheap modem and attaching something like this in my opinion, range is even better if you roof / wall mount them.

Only caveats with them is there is a windows only application which is required to configure them and it can be a little fiddly at times.

edit:I have no affiliation with Telcoantennas, packages get shipped really quickly though and has been all round a good experience.

edit2: Just realised this was AC, my entire point is mute lol.

UBNT sell 802.11ac WAPs but they're over $300

      • Yeah, not as good as an alternative considering the cost for him though.

That said, how good is UBNT gear? We've used the point to point dishes on a few jobs where we couldn't have cable run and they are so damn stable.

        • Consider them a cheap enterprise option rather than an expensive home one :) They are awesome.

        • @yanman: That they are, still don't consider them too expensive a home option though, especially with the range and stability.

Thanks. Picked up one from Officeworks for ~$237

  • Thanks for the quick reply. I tried with Officeworks but they only price match competitors apparently, not another Officeworks store.
