Telstra Prepaid Nokia 208 $19 @ Harvey Norman

440

A 3G old school bar phone. They will be turning off 2G network sometime in 2016. So if you still want a bar phone into the future, this might be a good fit.

This is a Telstra prepaid phone, I got this from the bar code 9316423019897 as listed on HN's site. They failed to specify Telstra directly in their descriptions. Did a quick google of the barcode shows its a Telstra version.

You should be able to confirm in store.

micro sdhc slot, bluetooth, good battery life, make it a good music play pairing up with ur bluetooth speakers

It's just too bad the sound quality from the 10 cent DAC inside will be horrible; might be okay if all you're used to is iPods and iPhones.

      • If its bluetooth, I thought the processing will be done one the speaker end. They won't be tranferring analogue signals via bluetooth.

As to sound quality using the earjack. I have a Nokia 110, and meh, got no complaints.

        • As to sound quality using the earjack. I have a Nokia 110, and meh, got no complaints.

It's passable; as is my old Nokia E6, which I mainly use for music playback to save me the hassle of carrying around two devices. But it sounds like garbage compared to a serious MP3 player.

        • @Amar89:

          Serious MP3 = oxymoron
MP3 is a format literally made for scrubs that don't care about audio.

          Lossless for the win.

Anybody know if it works with Aldi sim? Thanks.

    • +1

I just bought one. I can confirm mine works. Aldi SIM, Telstra-locked phone according to the box.

  • Seriously WTH?! I just paid $59 for this phone (locked) some 6 months ago.

Anyone know the cheapest way of unlocking this?
I tried google without much luck as most unlock codes were quite expensive.

    • Try the b to the a to the g man

  • Up to 500 hrs standby on a 1020 mAh battery!!!!!
And imagine all the standby-ing you can get out of it because there's nothing there to make you want to turn the screen on to suck juice!!!!
How do you like them apples, smart phones!!!

    • I have this phone. The battery life is average, not good but not too bad either. About 100 hours with medium usage (talk/text but no data). If left on standby constantly, you might be lucky to get double that, but definitely not 3 weeks!!

  • DA FUQ? Pretty sure I just got given an unlocked version of this… Might try and flog it for $50?

  • Any starter sim in the pack? If so, will there be any credit on it?

  • Apologies for this naive question, but I cannot find that it is "Telstra locked" anywhere in the description in the website.

    Can anyone please confirm?

      Assumption is prepaid=locked

Thanks. Went to HN this morning, they confirmed that it is locked.

Nokia feature phones are damn hard to unlock. Smartphones are much easier and cheaper to find unlock codes for.

Mum has one of these, GREAT phone.

    Uhh…

    Guys…

    I just vomited…

    I've got barcode '6438158618091'

    It's completely unlocked…

    • I'm presuming that the staffer at HN accidentally gave me the wrong one!

  • I can't tether this can I? Would be great as a 3G device

    • I was wondering the same. Does anyone know if it can be used for 3G tethering?

      • Yup! But its USB tethering only.

      • Thats S60

        The 208 is running S40

        • Thanks, my mistake.

    • You can Bluetooth teather it. I'm taking it overseas

      • Where did you get this info? Genuinely curious, I bought one as a backup and can't find the setting. Would be nice to give it an additional use.

  • Seriously though, just pay $400 more and buy a Oneplus One.

  • Thanks OP!!

I have a smartphone, but I like to hike/camp long distances over a few days at a time, and candy bar phones just have excellent battery life for the odd text here and there, that last me the distance :)

Not to mention that Telstra do have the best reception in the bush

    Will be buying this one!!

  • I grabbed one today.
Perfect timing as my HTC either has a software corruption or got a bit wet in the storms last week and no longer has a working speaker or mic.
Will at least get me through until I have time to flash it or buy a new one.

    Thanks OP.

As for the phone. It's quite usable.
Calls/SMS are a breeze. Just like the olden days.
Internets I haven't played with much. I tried to get gmail working but it wasn't coming to the party.
Oh and real FM Radio. A must have on any phone IMO.

  • Can anyone confirm whether their handset is indeed locked or not, and where / how much it can be unlocked for?

  • +1

I've asked bagman, he couldn't unlock this phone.
