Again this year similar to previous deals in 2011, 2012, 2013

It's great to book a short daily return trip to regional areas such as Swan Hill, Albury, Echuca, Bendigo, Warrnambool, Bairnsdale, etc. Works for First Class aswell

Just booked a day return trip in First Class worth $89.20 per person on Christmas Day, not as good as previous year… as they cancelled the FREE inter-state service to Adelaide or Canberra I traveled before…

New Year’s Eve 31 December (After 6pm) overnight service

New Year’s Day 01 January (Before the first normal scheduled service) overnight service

Getting around via public transport on Christmas Day and after 6pm on New Year’s Eve will be free again this year and extra services are planned for summer peak periods and major events.

Public Transport Victoria (PTV) Chief Executive Officer Mark Wild said travel on public transport across the state will be free on Christmas Day, and for customers that touch on after 6pm on New Year’s Eve until the first normal scheduled service on New Year’s Day.

So do you book ahead on the Vline Myki services? Tried the website and it doesn't seem to give the option to do it.

Tried to book 2 return tickets to Swan hill online and wants to charge me $180.00

  I tried and saw that too, but if you click 'buy now' it'll take you to a page that says online order can't be placed, linking you to various reasons which are applicable https://www.vline.com.au/fares-and-tickets/buyonline/embargo… so ultimately I'd assume give them a call to book are your best bets to take advantage of this deal. Since services are free, any overcrowding won't result in back up coach services, the remaining people will have to wait for the next scheduled service…

New Year’s Day 01 January (Before the first normal scheduled service) overnight service - free travel is ONLY for the first service leaving Melbourne (Southern Cross) to all regional areas… (to get the remaining people away from Melbourne after NYE).
