  • The price drops so quickly. Samsung seems to be experiencing hard sales recently…

    • +9

Good. If they spent more time supporting their hardware and less time creating 100+ phones/tablets a year, then they would build up more brand loyalty.

      • +2

Moar sales! Who needs brand loyalty

      • Even if they did, I doubt it would make that much difference as all the other android manufacturers have stepped up their game.

At least they are learning from their mistakes?

        • The second part of that is to do software updates

        • +1

@rorymeister: They also increased the number of people involved in software team by heaps, I have heard, so that + less models might come out to better optimised and better OS support? (I cannot find English news article on this unfortunately.)

Also, I think it is slightly unfair, Samsung does have a lot of line and Samsung seems to be alright, not good but not too bad, in terms of OS support, compared to other developers that are not Google or Apple.

        • @AznMitch:

That's good to hear if true.

From my experience, and those of my friends, their software updates are terrible. My friends haven't been one to sideload, so I don't know if the images were available, and it's just the carriers who didn't update them, but my mates SGN2 had two updates in 2 years and friends SGN3 has had 1 so far (on 4.4.2)

        • @rorymeister: Note 3 is getting Lollipop according to rumours, early next year. Not sure about note 2 though.

      • I concur. My Note 3 and Gear Fit will be replaced shortly with non-Samsung alternatives. Tired of them turning their backs on every device.

        • Go with Sony or LG :)

    • +7

Last time I looked (first quarter this year) Apple shipped 43m and Samsung 85m, have things changed so much? I'm liking the look of the Z3 personally.

      • Yeah I think Samsung still holds the biggest market share

      • +1

Probably because Samsung cannot survive on relatively lower sales volume on flagship, cough Galaxy S5 cough (I say the term lower very very loosely because Samsung does sell a lot). Also I've heard that many people went from Samsung to Apple because of the screen size.

At least, iOS market share have seem to have risen while Samsung market share plummeted…

        http://www.cnet.com/news/samsung-still-tops-but-smartphones-…

        • +27

I would never go Apple again, the restrictions and the Problems with updates is too often

        • +21

Personally I wouldn't contemplate going from Android back to Apple, the hardware is great in both camps now but I much prefer the openness of Android.

        • +2

I don't disagree, I hate Apple. I personally think they are overpriced for what they are worth. Though I see their worth to be low because I personally value ruggedness, openness of OS, etc which some people might disagree which I am fine with.

I personally like Samsung because they are the ones with the biggest advantages in Android, they produce half, if not most, parts on their phones.

It's just that Samsung failed big time with S5 that they had to change their tactics around a lot. That is why I am sort of waiting for S6 and might even try to justify spending tonnes of money on buying S6.

        • +2

@AznMitch: I feel Sammy are a bit of a victim of their own success also. The Note 3 is so very good that I've not even thought about upgrading it to the Note 4. I know I'm not the only one who feels this way, I said this to a Samsung salesman whilst I was looking at the Note Edge last week and he said he felt exactly the same way and pulled a Note 3 from his pocket as well.

        • @Where's_That_Cake: lel, yeah, the phone industry last year didn't improve much. Also, QHD sort of made the performance improvement to be mediocre, if there is any. Though, Note 4… Drools. Gear VR… Drools.

Note Edge is something that I look at with some questions, but I think it shows technological advances in screen and what we can do with screens. It sort of reminds me of Galaxy Round and G-flex, but at the same time, it does look prettier than those I suppose.

Well considering that Apple have 2 premium iphones, whilst Samsung have like 500 different phones with the mldt basic one version costing ~$50, so that comparison is invalid.

        • I haven't looked for a while but aren't Apple also selling the 3, 4 and 5 models at reseller like the Post Office? (Similar to how they also still sell all of the ipad mini models) Also they have the cheaper colorful phones as well as the two new ones?

  • +1

Damn, missed out on the 20% eBay sale which bought the price of the phone down to around $720. Still a goos price now considering the watch alone sells for just under $200.

      • Yeah tried it with the code. Sadly, it's a bit over my budget and the 20% discount was right around my budget. Thanks anyways though MITM!

    • +1

It's really good if you value the watch at more than $87.
Or if you can resell it for more than that. Eg: Spend $807, sell watch for $100, net price $707.

      • Yeah, thanks for the advice. I'm going to see if anyone on here who is in Brisbane wants the watch, otherwise sell it via another source.

  • will you get the free watch if you choose post not local pick up?

    • +1

You will get it if you pick up or get it delivered

  • If anyone around the Newcastle area wants to buy this phone but isn't after the watch I'd be happy to meet up and throw $100 at you for it any time this week.

    • +2

Literally? In forms of notes or bags of coins?

      • Literally, in bunches of fives.

        • Nope, like this

      Like this?

      Youtube link, has sound.

      • Lol what are you doing browsing my internet history?

    • I think dick smith info (ie lack of) on mobiles is scarce and useless, how do they expect someone looking at buying a phone to find what specs & features a phone has.

      • +1

They know we have google and spec sites which offer more detail then even places like jbhifi, officework and so on :) But I agree they should have more detail on some items

  • Guys keep on topic or I will have to get comments collapsed

Out of the two, I think Apple will drop out of the game first before Samsung does, may not be anytime soon but in the future.

Once Samsung releases their folding tablet next year what's going to happen to the iPad sales? I have both iphone 6 plus and iPad, they make a great tablet but it just feels like to many things are missing, I only like apple due to their superior library or apps. And on androids side, they have heaps of free, bargain apps that apples App Store lacks.

    • The fact that most Android users make so much noise about free apps suggests to me that Apple will be around for a very long time. BTW I am an Android user…

      • Apple were good when they cared about quality but they let that go out the window since the 5 came out, now it's just bad updates that have never ending problems and crap built phones

  • +2

Well to be fair Samsung still over priced its products because they have the OS for free! Google it and you will find better Android handset deals e.g. OnePlus and Huawei Mate 7 etc.

    • +1
      1. Those companies never pay the patent fees, look at what Xiaomi is going through in India right now. That does cut a lot of cost, I've heard.
      2. Samsung does optimise/clogs them with bloatware, look at touchwiz.
      • -1

Galaxy's aren't clogged, let's be honest here, they run very well nowadays. Perhaps the S1 and 2 felt the bloat but not the later gens.

    • Yes, there are cheaper handsets, but it doesn't make Samsung overpriced. OnePlus is a good deal - but they aren't as good. You pay extra for the higher res camera, heart rate sensor, stylus, faster CPU/GPU, fingerprint sensor, higher res, card slot, longer battery life, etc.

Oh, and forgot that with the Note 4, you can get the Gear VR. So basically it makes it the best phone in existence. http://www.samsung.com/global/microsite/gearvr/index.html

      • agree. when people praised 1+1 they are considering the spec vs price. for THAT price, ofcourse 1+1 is good, etc etc.
but big brands always produce premium products which better than cheaper competitor.

  • After clicking the link I can't see the combo with the smart watch - just the phone by itself? Am I doing something wrong?

  • i cant find any info on the Bonus Samsung Gear Live on TGG ebay site.

  • It's good deal with the 2% cash back. Makes it below $800, if you are travel make it even better!

    • Lol why do I always forget that. Cheers

    • how long have you got to travel to be able to claim it?

      • +1

        60 days

  • +1

heres a link to the Bonus Offer if anyone looking for it.
    http://www.thegoodguys.com.au/BonusOfferListView?catalogId=3…

    • The links are in post :)

  • reading the review of the gear live, seems like my original gear is better!

    • Yeah I still don't see the point of smart watches. They can't do anything better than a smartphone, have horrible battery life and are outdated so fast. Guess they are a good fashion accessory if you like wearing a rather bulky device around your wrist.

Note 4 prices will drop even further on Boxing Day sales I reckon. Samsung has been having very weak sales compared to the previous quarter last year. The continued success of the iPhone 6 and the emergence of excellent Andriod flagships like the Htc One M8, One Plus One and LG G3 have really dented Samsungs former control on the Andriod market.

      • +2

They aren't supposed to do things better than a smart phone. They are supposed to accessorize a smart phone.

      • +1

nah, im happy with my gear, i was just saying this gear live isnt much better than original gear.

  • Has anyone debated between white and black? I have not seen the phone physically at all so far.

I am leaning towards white but worried that it may not look good after a few months of usage..

  • +1

I guess there'll be a lot of Gear Lives on ebay soon.

  • I just bought the phone yesterday with this deal but havent picked it up yet.
How would i go about getting this deal? get them to refund my ebay purchase and buy again?

  • Has anyone experiencing samsung galaxy note4 screen sometimes is overheat while playing its S-pen to do some drawing for about 10-15 minutes. I dont have many apps installed too. I also experience laggy when surfing the net with its default internet browser. Tried chrome browser too but same occurrence.
I think this device was not as good as it rumours. Yes its screen is totally great in many ways but performance wise not that great i think. The S Planner date too just showing 31 instead of real date. I am ios user btw.

    • I bought the phone using this offer and have been reading up on how the S-pen works. Apparently it works by using coils under the screen to create an electromagnetic field, which in turn supplies power to the pen. Essentially it means that the screen will get hot with heavy use, just like how an induction cooktop's coils warm up slightly (though not cooking temperature hot) as it heats up the pan.

It looks like this is the way it's meant to operate and it isn't a design flaw. They can't break the laws of physics, you know.

Until Android support visual voicemail on Telstra I'm sticking with iOS.

    • YES!!!! im with you.. eventhough Andro support visual voicemail on ANY NETWORK,, im sticking with IOS.. no matter what.. !!

    • Telstra texts me my voicemail. I can check my messages from Telstra to see my list of voicemail. And it dictates my messgaes, so I can read them instead of having to listen to them. So I'd say Telstra provides enhanced visual voicemail.

  • Pity you can't price match Good Guys against Good Guys.

  • If anyone in Adelaide has, or is planning on claiming this deal, but is not interested in the watch, I'm willing to buy it off them for $90.

  • too bad my overseas trip is in March 2015, i dont mind buying this if i can claim TRS

  • Anyone in Brisbane looking to buy the watch? I'm very keen and serious to buy the phone and don't need the watch at all. Thanks!

  • Hi, Just made a purchase, can someone please tell me the way to get the invoice so i can claim the GST at airport, thanks :)

    • Whne you pick it up you get the receipt.

  • Has anyone actually claimed bonuses from The Good Guys before? I'm eager to know if they post it out to you immediately (which I think is unlikely) or if they delay it until just before the advertised cut-off period (I think highly likely).

  • Does thr good guys provide tax invoice? Can i claim the GST back and is it within 60days??

Please help as i want to buy it today…thx thx

    • Yes.
