I was in the market for a new Android tablet and came across this deal for a HP Slatebook X2 with 64GB of internal storage which is at least $100 cheaper from advertised bargains of 6 months ago. I don't think anything else beats it at this price with the specifications listed, but you may disagree. This price is only available until Sunday 4th January. There are options to pickup from Bundall, Fyshwick, Gosford, Kotara and Warrawong stores. $9 was for shipping in Victoria.

          HP quality might not be the greatest (?), but after my experiences with trying to get support/repair from HP, Lenovo and Asus recently, I'd pick HP out of the three. Also, as crappy as their website is, it's somehow better than the other two…

        Hey manic, i got one of these for $299 when shopping express were doing a deal and thought it was a bargain. I needed something cheap with android for my news reading/it's also great for putting beside me when gaming on the couch as it's not too bulky.

        In fact i was so happy with it i ordered another for my partner from Megabuy (that one was DOA unfortunately).

        HP service was actually pretty good - gave me a letter of authorisation within 12 hours for a swap (Megabuy were despicable and tried to tell me over the phone they had none to swap with, however i just drove into the store and low and behold there were some there :P - either way HP service is pretty good for a DOA).

        One thing i love about this tablet/dock is that it has a better viewing angle than a lot of other keyboard dock tablets (you can adjust it back a lot more than say the asus tf300). I really haven't had any major issues - battery lasts long enough (dual battery in keyboard and tablet), scrolling is quite smooth, and it rarely crashes out of apps. I'll have to check which version of android i have when i get home :)

        But yes.. buying 3 might be overkill so no more for me :D

      HP are noobs when it comes to Android devices. I had the HP 21 Slate which was good for initial use… then the cracks appeared, the main issue was limited 1GB RAM that caused the whole system to lock up and freeze.
      I see this slate has 2GB, but is it enough…

      Nice specs on this laptop regardless. You can boast about it to your friends during the reboots you'll constantly need to make, or constantly need to recharge the 2 cell (wtf??) battery

    Yes, I had same issue, I think the part to select shipping method have problem on the page, what I did is simply just click "buy" then they will calculate shipping in the checkout process.

    Tempted, but just spent 15mins reading reviews…and it has put me off…especially the yellowing of the screen…

    Am in the market for a tablet/player for the car to keep my young one entertained, but that AC charger really doesn't fit the purpose…

      I think the yellow tint was a problem with the initial release of the tablet, but was fixed in subsequent updates. You can update to Android 4.3 here http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=4153&….       If you have spare time to research and read through all the info and download various ROMs and hacks (like a proper geek) go for it.

      But in the real world when you have a young one you want to keep entertained you just want something that works? I suggest you look for something else :)

    You probably couldn't find any better hardware wise for this price, tegra 4 is comparable to an s800 performance wise. Nice res screen (which you usually won't find at this price), its a pity its stuck on 4.2. And there's no custom roms for this?

    Quick google search shows 4.3 is last update. Sounds like these have some sort of screen issues too. Yellow tint.

    Something to keep in mind: The bad reviews are mostly from when it first came out back in mid-2013. All the reviews are reviewing this device from a $749 perspective. So for $205, it's really quite good value!

          The tab s SoC is slower than this one, and the tab s has to push around a lot more pixels. I also don't think anyone could put out a worse version of Android than TouchWiz. I own a tab s, and its a horrible tab when it comes to performance. A lot of games won't even allow you to run in full detail, and even when the detail is turned down can run like crap. This tab shouldn't have issues like that.

          Hmm I will be getting a tab s very soon, and I have played around with a lot of them before making my decision… and I will have to disagree with you on TouchWiz.

          THis is based on mainly one very useful, and exclusive (besides LG's software) TouchWiz feature: Multi Window.

          You have a big screen, so why not utilise it, with 2 (or more) apps on screen? YouTube and Chrome at the same time…

          ALso, I've been looking at reviews of this HP Slatebook X2 on Youtube. Performance seems as 'fast' or as 'slow' as the Tab S.

          I agree with you that multi window is a great addition, but there's only a limited amount of apps that can take advantage of it. And I don't use chrome, as its a very poor performing browser ime, especially on the tab s. The exynos 5420 used in the tab s is slightly below the tegra 4, really the tab s should have got a better SoC based on when it was released and considering the high res display. Its one of the main reasons the tab s is so laggy. You try typing a message out on the tab s via chrome on ozbargain, and watch the delay with the text appearing, its that poor of a performer. I had an Asus memopad that performed better at general tasks compared against the tab s. I have had the tab s for a while, perhaps your opinion will change when you spend more time with it. If you are used to some better performing tabs like iPad or the nexus 7 2013 model, you'd be very disappointed by the amount of lag tw has on the tab s. The only reason I have kept the tab s, is because the screen is second to none. :)

          I have a Nexus 4, which is pretty much flawless with stock Android 5.02 (…but I am finding that Android L is not as stable as KitKat).

          I also have an old Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (2012), running KitKat 4.4 with TouchWiz. If you care, here's my 'review' of this TouchWiz running old Samsung tablet:

          1. This tablet handles OK compared to the Nexus, and definitely isn't buttery smooth… but it's something that you learn to live with, and it's OK for the general user.

          2. Regarding multi-window, it supports most apps that most users would use (in my opinion), including Chrome, Maps, (Samsung's) Note, YouTube, (Samsung's) Browser.

          3. I don't like Samsung's greeny blue theme colour. You can't change this.

          4. Chrome does not run 'very poor'. It runs pretty normally on my TouchWiz running Samsung tablet, based on my experience, as it runs on my Nexus 4.

          5. (My opinion / conclusion) If you want a large tablet for general and multimedia use, you can't go wrong with a high-end Samsung tablet, like the Galaxy Tab S (besides the price). The Tab S is very light, has a large and beautiful screen, stereo speakers, one of the fastest CPU, and the software (Samsung's TouchWiz) is designed 'for' tablets.

          THat being said, this tablet (HP Slatebook X2) is a steal at this price in my opinion, and it's a big shame that it's running Android 4.2.2. If you don't care about this, and I need a cheap but good tablet, I think this is a winner ;)

          @Ronnnie: I am going to disagree with you here. Just because it has to downscale apps, doesn't necessarily make it a bad tablet. If you are going to get it for watching movies, it looks amazing. The trend is going 4K for mobile phones (which I think is ridiculous but that being aside), so there will be more apps supporting that resolution.

          Also, I had little problems with running apps, but then again, it's technically not mine so I've never used it to its full potential, whatever that maybe.

    Bottom Line
    The HP SlateBook x2 comes with a well designed keyboard dock and offers decent performance, but that's about where the good things end. There are too many significant flaws to recommend, including a lacklustre display, a proprietary charger with an unnecessary, oversized power brick, and poor battery life

          In the $200 tab range, you'll find most will have worse screen than this, significantly slower SoC (usually s400), 16gb instead of 64gb, 1gb of ram, won't have a dock etc. If you were looking for a 10 inch tab with a budget of $200, I doubt you'll find anything that comes near this for value. Certainly not the poor aldi offerings.

    FWIW, I think people are missing the point when it comes to performace, etc – this HP is a full-featured tablet with a dock, for under $200. For me this is a bargain! I've ordered one for my parents (to replace a 7" ASUS tab I bought them via Ozbargain which is starting to show it's age). THey'll be pumped with this (heck I would too at this price, but I already have a tab). Considering a Nintendo 3DS or PS VITA costs over $200, this type of tablet might even be good for kids to muck around with.

    Don't be tricked by it saying, 10.1" IPS Screen. Reviews say the screen is bad. It has poor light levels, bad glare when hit by sunlight, and colours lack sharpness.

    Updating to 4.3 apparently fixes the yellow tint but also causes problems with the sound. Not sure if that's been fixed. Also it stops the latest version of TowelRoot from working but some people reported success with v1 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=53848854&post….

    No custom mods yet.

    Also apparently it uses a proprietary USB cable that may or may not come with the device and is also extremely expensive to buy on its own.

    I've been doing a bit more reading about this tab overnight. Although I still think it's a great bargain, there is one missing feature that is going to annoy me. It appears that the tablet doesn't include a USB cable, and that the tablet uses a proprietary port for charging. So I guess the only way to copy files to/from your computer is to use a USB stick or MicroSD card. It's not a huge problem, but it is a pain the arse. Especially for rooting, etc.

      At this price who couldn't afford a cable. It also states above that it has a USB 2.0 port, so who doesnt have a heap of USB cables these days, and it would be reasonable to assume that files could be copied to/from a PC with this method as most Android phones and tablets can.

The port only provides connection to external storage devices (source). As indicated above, there is an optional (proprietary) cable available that has a standard USB connector on one end and a SlateBook x2 charger connector on the other that allows direct data transfer from/to a PC, charging from a USB port and USB debugging for developers. Unfortunately, this cable isn't cheap: currently HP are selling it for a cool A$91.89! (including GST and shipping) - search for part number 728141-001 on the HP Parts Store.

          If that is the case, the op should change the post to reflect that.
          It states in the specifications that there is a docking port for mobile keyboard and a USB 2.0 port. USB is a standard, so if it is a proprietry port it cannot be refered to as a USB port.

          I think it's the charger port that is proprietary, rather than the USB port - it's just that the device doesn't support data transfer from/to a PC via the USB port; it does this via the charger port instead (providing you purchase the optional cable). I agree that the specs/description should clearly highlight this limitation/additional cost as it is a clear departure from other tablets and one that has been discussed at length on various forums (such as this one).

    Using Samsung Galaxy Tab1 and Tab2 10.1 for > 12 months now for web, mail, games, file repository and various utility apps (eg Oxley Solar) and very happy with both. Will roam both OS this year replacing laptop. Tab1 3G has custom dialler installed (no standard Samsung dialler on Tab1 :-( ) on root that works well. Probably best itech investments we've ever made at at average of about $200 each… :-) .. !! Highly recommended for average household use….

      I doubt you could get it running linux easily. Keep in mind though Android OS is based on the linux kernal.

    Over 3000 clicks on this deal and it is not yet sold out or OzBargained…I smell signs of hesitation amongst us (me included). Happy for those who are buying/bought a bargain. I am trying so hard to convince myself to buy it, but after looking at more pics, it's now a definite "No"…why? All the ports are located on the keyboard docking station…meaning u will need to carry the keyboard and brick charger with u. Defeats the purpose of a tablet. Yes, the 2gb ram, 64gb mem and quad core tegra is enticing…but so many other things let it down

      The ports located on the keyboard isn't really that bad. I hardley ever need hdmi or usb host. Most android tablets don't have those ports anyway, or need adapters to use them. You certainly don't have to carry the keyboard with you. It's still a tablet after all. Power brick is a pain but whatevs.

      For $196 this thing has great specs and a established brand name behind it.

        Having full size sd card slot, hdmi out, and usb on a tab is pretty amazing stuff. Good luck finding those on other Android tabs, especially one's that are <$200.
