Presale: Pipo X7 Intel Quadcore Windows Mini PC USD $89.98 Inc Shipping @ GearBest

PipoX7LM

I'm a massive sucker for these tiny Windows boxes and I saw PiPO have released the X7. The PiPO X7 is an Intel Quadcore Mini PC which runs Windows 8.1 with Bing. The enclosure is apparently all aluminium. PiPO has been around for a while, predominately making tablets.

I asked GearBest for a coupon for the PiPO X7 and they gave me one for my readers so I thought I'd share it as everyone seems interested in small, cheap Windows boxes. Cheapest I can find for the X7 on AliExpress is $109.99.

There is more information here: Mod: Site removed - do not link to site with affiliate links

There's also more info on the Intel chip itself here: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-Atom-Z3736F-Tablet-SoC.12…

  • mmm mine hasn't been delivered, and tracking went silent a few weeks back.
Followed up with support (again) asked to wait and see.

Only have a few days to go to lodge 45day PayPal dispute.

    not impressed ;\

    • When did you order yours and when was it marked posted?
      Was it GeekBuying or GearBest?

      • Got mine last night from GeekBuying last night. Service = -3/10. Device so far, 8/10! Really pleased. Was a real worry waiting for it to arrive though… Hence my service score. :) Hope you get yours soon!

      • I cant login atm, but it was gearbest.

Got also sorts of mixed messages on when it was posted, but I think the post date says 14/2

        • received today, but got white instead of black.
          terrible service, never again.

  • Arrived today from GeekB after purchasing on the 20/01. Took 22 days from notice of shipping. Hope this helps anyone else who ordered around that time.

    • Really annoying as I ordered on the 2/1 with GeekBuying and still don't have the bloody thing. It was apparently shipped on the 8/1.

      • Did you receive notice of shipping? And the tracker will show you the basic status.

        • Yeah I did, with the shipping notice being on 8/1. The tracker just says in transit to destination country.

I got somewhere with it today after calling Australia Post, who can see the item actually arriving in QLD on 13/2 but then not being updated since. It's probably lost somewhere or stuck, but they can't do anything further for me until the sender starts an investigation with the international shipper etc.
Don't know if I'll see this thing any time soon, if at all. :(

        • @bonuscheese: damn. i do hope it works out all the best for you cheesey.

  • Still waiting. sent off another Request for update from Gearbest

  • Breeze to set up however I'm new to Win8.1 so still trying to work out what's what. Quick and quiet and smooth for the wireless HTPC I intended. Program wise MPC-HC works no worries though winamp could do with a bit of re-skinning to make it better for the TV from a distance. May have a look at Kodi.

Came in the colour ordered (black) with AU plug adapter.

    Hey,

    Some updates:

    • the device has serious heat issues as kindly pointed out by another OzBargainer. The temps shoot up to 90 degrees easily and throttles the box.
    • I've since added a bunch of heatsinks and changed the horrible thermal pads. You will likely have to do these mods.
    • I'm still waiting on another thermal pad

    Now, for Gearbest:

    • My super secret source has informed me that Gearbest will no longer be stocking this product due to supply issues
    • hey mate did you take any photos/guide on doing these mods? What parts did you use?

      • I was going to take photos but my camera broke so I didn't. It's a really straight forward process though.

I used 12x25x15mm aluminium heatsinks, Phobya XT (1mm) thermal pad, and also used some thermal tape because I didn't have any thermal epoxy laying around. I have a 5mm thermal pad on the way.

If you're interested in buying this stuff I've got more than half of everything left over. I ordered it from everywhere (USA, Germany, China, Sydney) and I'm happy to send it over if you want to go halves or something. Otherwise it'll cost you about ~$30 if you plan on ordering it on your own.

If you do order it by yourself, though, don't get 15mm high heatsinks. Go for something like 13mm max because it sits better in the box.

        • I might be interested in going halves. Can you itemise what you can sell please (for the $15)?
          1 * Phobya 1mm
          4? * 122515mm aluminium heatsink
          some thermal tape etc

        • +1

          @nige0090:

There is enough of the Phobya XT to fully cover the RAM modules as well.

I have two 100mm x 100mm x 5mm thermal pads on the way to complete the mod, one is spare just in case (I always buy double of everything, idk) so I'd be happy to let that go as well, but that would be another ~$10 (cost price). Should be here in a couple of weeks. Meaning the total cost is about $25 if you also want the 5mm thermal pad or about $15 without, + postage (~$1?) or you can pick it up if you're willing to drive out to Merrylands, NSW.

        • @ausmechkeyboards:

Yes, I'll take the Phobya, heatsinks & some thermal tape (I don't have any epoxy either) please.
I also have a 5mm thermal pad on order so I don't need another.
I don't see myself driving out to Merrylands soon so I'd prefer postage.

If you give me some payment details I'll transfer the $16 and send you my postal address.

Thanks very much. It should save me a few weeks ordering a Phobya strip from Germany.

        • @nige0090: sent you a message.

        • @ausmechkeyboards:

          Any more spare leftover?

I'd be interested in buying them as well in case Im not too late

        • @paradoxez: not of the stuff mentioned, sent exactly half to nige0090 I'm afraid.

I'll still have the spare 5mm thermal pad when that gets in?

        • @ausmechkeyboards:
5mm pad? is that for the backside of the main-board so it contacts to the aluminium casing?

if it is then I don't think i'll go that far. thanks for the offer anyway :)

In the mean time i'll do the case flipping trick until my heat-sink arrive XD

        • @paradoxez: it's the single most important (and easiest) heat mod you can do IMO. If you don't want to grab mine, that's fine, but you should seriously consider buying one at some point.

One thing you can do is buy a USB laptop fan (like this) and use that for active cooling in the mean time. It drops the temperature about 10 degrees and makes it difficult to throttle.

  • Despite the thermal problems with the Pipo x7, its worth noting the value in the overall package. It includes one years subscription to Office 365, which installed fine on my main PC. And 60 Skype minutes to 60? countries.

    I have to admit that my Chromebox makes a much better and faster Kodi box though;

  • Still waiting for mine to be delivered, but looking at the tracking it's in Australia now.
Typically after all the hassle I had getting the box, in the time it's taken to sort out delivert etc, my laptop has died and I decided to get a NAS on top of the new laptop so no longer have any need for the PIPO. Hopefully the returns process is easier than the delivery!

    • It would probably be easier & quicker to on-sell it here. I'm sure some ozbarginers would be keen to take it off your hands.

      • Very good point, especially as I'd have to pay for return postage.
Once it arrives I'll list it in the classifieds.

    • Hi there, how do you get the Microsoft office 360 license transfer from the Pipo to another device e.g your computer. A
Cant say I am happy about my unit it was badly scratched all over the top and the microSD card is not working, cant see any files in the file manager even though card was detected
Anyone else know how to do this with the Pipo and care to share please; most appreciated.
      Thank you in advance.

  • Anyone had any trouble with no being able to wake from sleep using USB? Neither my keyboard or htpc remote will wake it. Have to press the button on the front. Has done this from stock. Can't see a setting in BIOS, and have tried click "allow this device to wake from sleep" in device manager.

  • Just received and installed a 5x100x100mm thermal pad. Does its job and definitely the easiest mod so far. Temps are pretty reasonable and I don't need any additional active cooling now - running completely passive with low temps. I don't need the second 5x100x100mm thermal pad (I ordered two) so let me know if you want it.
