Presale: Pipo X7 Intel Quadcore Windows Mini PC USD $89.98 Inc Shipping @ GearBest

1530
PipoX7LM

I'm a massive sucker for these tiny Windows boxes and I saw PiPO have released the X7. The PiPO X7 is an Intel Quadcore Mini PC which runs Windows 8.1 with Bing. The enclosure is apparently all aluminium. PiPO has been around for a while, predominately making tablets.

I asked GearBest for a coupon for the PiPO X7 and they gave me one for my readers so I thought I'd share it as everyone seems interested in small, cheap Windows boxes. Cheapest I can find for the X7 on AliExpress is $109.99.

There is more information here: Mod: Site removed - do not link to site with affiliate links

There's also more info on the Intel chip itself here: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-Atom-Z3736F-Tablet-SoC.12…

Technical Specs:

  • Chipset: Intel Baytrail quad core processor with Intel HD graphics (Z3736F)
  • RAM: 2 GB DDR3
  • Storage: 32 GB eMMC + micro SD slot up to 32GB
  • Video & Audio Output: HDMI 1.4, 3.5mm Audio
  • Connectivity: 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, Fast Ethernet
  • USB: 4x USB 2.0 port
  • Other Features: Power button
  • OS: Windows 8.1 with Bing

Please note this is a presale but I'm told it should be shipping very soon.

Edit: I spoke to GearBest as I wanted to get the best price for my readers so same coupon gets it for $89.98 now

        • applied my coupon code and now picked up the black one with AU plug for US$89.56. my order for the silver one just got cancelled.

  • ok so does one order the AU or US version?

    • AU would be the power plug type. I got black one with AU.

      • the reason I ask is that the coupon does not apply to the au plug option although other are reporting still being able to receive the au plug with the us plug model

        • silver should also come with au plug.

  • purchased the black+au plug (couldn't help myself!)

    89.56 USD = $114.00 AUD (Paypal conversion)
    89.56 USD = $110.40 AUD (CC conversion)

    thanks OP

  • i wonder if the black will come with the silver antenna or the black one. I have seen both combinations on line

    • +1

I've got mine - the black model comes with a black antenna. I was terrified it'd have the white antenna like the photos!

      • have you set it up yet Darkscythe?

        • Will be this weekend's task. Keep posted on my site for the full review: hometheatrelife.com

Anything in particular people want to see on it?

Was going to do some benchmarks, maybe Bioshock 1 or Crysis, etc.

        • @Darkscythe: presale ends today I believe but yes interested in your set up.

        • +1

@cornbeef: You can read my thoughts about it here: http://hometheatrelife.com/pipo-x7-review/

It's a really good box so far. I'm impressed with the build quality, Windows is activated and temps are good even under load.

        • @Darkscythe: thanks

        • @Darkscythe:
Have you tried Steam streaming with it? Have a real computer doing all the heavy lifting for the game, and streaming to the steam client on the pipo?

If you haven't, would you like to? It's what I am thinking of getting one for.

        • +1

@salem: Planning on doing so as I've had a few requests. Just a matter of finding time!

        • @Darkscythe:

Sweet. Looking forward to it. Maybe they'll be back in stock by then too. ;)

  • +1

the silver version with AU plug is also 89.56 with the coupon.

I just cancelled my original order and re-ordered one with the AU plug

  • Can I just confirm that this could:

-Run XBMC (Or what ever it's called now)
-Have multiple drives connected via USB for the movie storage (If I have a USB hub, can I connect many drives?)
-Have a USB Infrared receiver connected (Probably off the USB hub then - but I'm guess it needs to be a powered hub now?)

Would maybe save me electricity bill as my Media PC is a full PC at the moment. :)

    • Yes it should.

    • +2

XBMC/Kodi runs beautifully on it. Aeon Nox is as smooth as butter which makes my day as its the only skin I use.
I haven't tested multiple drives as I don't have many on hand but should be fine.
No issue with the IR reciever - that's what I currently use on my HTPC setups. Thank you $4 remote from China!

This 'presale' just got extended to the 22nd of January. Does that mean another weeks wait until the product ships?

    • Excellent - we may get Darkscythe's POV

    • Probably, Geekbuying have moved their date to the 22nd also.

    • Some people are getting them but the talk seems to be that there are different shipments and it sounds like the first shipment is being shipped/has been shipped.

  • I'm trying to order one now, but something strange is happening. I add one to my basket, with AU plug. Says AUD$129.31. I apply the code, and the price goes to $142 AUD! And the unit price goes up too. Yet, it says a savings of $15 at the bottom. Anyone else having this issue?

    • Same issue here. Looks like the code is dead. You can get it off geekbuying for $93USD still though, using code QRBHLEUL:
      http://www.geekbuying.com/item/PIPO-X7-Windows-8-1-Smart-Min…

      • Thanks, might have to go there then. No AU plug option though, which saddens me.

        • It says in description correct country plug will be sent. I've purchased one, we'll see.

        • @gunz:
          Ordered. :) Thanks,.

  • +2

Price is $162 AUD now at GearBest without code. Any chance on getting them to put the price at your original post Darkscythe?

It is now $116 AUD at GeekBuying with code, the original post made it around $110 AUD

Now possible at GeekB for $111 AUD ($88USD) by using this code CAOFCDIV for the black version and UHWYAJDD for the silver

Use US currency to pay as otherwise paypal doesn't recognise the discount.

Comes with AU plug said the friendly chat.

    • This both codes doesn't work. It said this code is used more than 5 times. Is there any other codes??/

      • They are codes produced by GeekBuy. Have you created an account and logged in?

        http://www.geekbuying.com/Promotion/Festival_CouponZone#.VL7…

        • No dice. The codes don't work. Same error as @greatbuy. I am logged in.

        • +1

@virtuallyjohnny: Try talking to chat. It's how I found out about going via the US currency route and let them know about the codes not working. I had the issue that the price would change in the coupon area but not in the shopping cart.

        • +1

          @cornbeef: @virtuallyjohnny

Code is working on geekbuying get $10off (Code: CAOFCDIV for black) and I have ordered yesterday. You need to login and live chat with customer service team. I have used pay pal but choose credit card company ( depend on your credit card) decided to price conversation cost me $107AUD only after discount. Thanks to @cornbeef.

Also this code is on their website as well please check below link. Tell them to active this code which is valid till 26/1/15 as this code is temporary on hold they said. Best luck

PIPO X7 Windows 8.1 Smart Mini PC TV Box Media Player 2G RAM 32G ROM Intel 3736F 2.16GHz Quad Core WiFi Bluetooth - Black 1 USD 97.99

          Sub Total: USD 97.99
Shipping Cost: USD 0.00 (Registered Airmail)
          Discount: USD - 10.00
          Grand Total: USD 87.99

        • @greatbuy: that code is not working and the offer is no longer on the website. I loaded the code from @gunz and was in the checkout process and the price reverted back to usd97.99. Live chat is "waiting"… If geekbuying can't get their website working, I don't hold much hope on ever getting a delivery irrespective of price.

    • It appears that PiPO are increasing the wholesale prices so the price will rise from every vendor shortly. I'll see if I can find out any more. There is a coupon on my site to get it for $107 currently but I'll update my review if I get a new code.

  • Any other codes for geekbuying?

  • Looks like the coupon was never really valid, according to what the response from their help was:

    Dear ****,

Thanks for your recent message .
We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience that may have been caused.

I'm sorry to tell you that the coupon cannot used in a discounted price.

Thank you for your understanding and kind support.
If any problem, please do not hesitate to contact us.

    Best regards,
    Angelia

    • Did you check my link above? The code is on their very own website so show them that in chat. The QRBHLEUL code still brings it down to $93USD from $98USD.

  • +1

Starting to feel disappointed that I purchased it with expedited shipping option. I thought the point was to receive the item sooner rather than later.

  • Does the standard free shipping come with tracking?

Hope they ship it soon :)

    • don't think so and it takes up to 6 weeks from my experince.

  • Anybody know if their order from geek buying as shipped yet? Can't really tell from my order details.

  • +1

I'm starting to regret buying from this mob. Despite several written promises of sending me a unit with an AU plug, now they're dicking me around and saying the price had gone up to $130 and if I want an AU plug I have to pay $40 difference etc. I changed my order well before the price went up and i have the chat transcript. I have a feeling I won't see my unit for another 2 months anyway. Probably the last time I buy anything from GB.

    • Is that geek buying or gear best?

      • +1

        Great Britain?

      • GBEST. .. incidentally they just resolved my issue. Hopefully it'll ship soon.

        • How did you get them to resolve it? They're still trying to get me to pay for the new item (~127 USD).

        • @gobais:
Just emailed the CS back telling them that it's unacceptable considering I changed my order (and have proof) when it was still the same price. They got back to me saying no problem we'll be happy to change your order.

I'm guessing it depends on WHEN you changed the order. If you're just trying to do it for the first time now then I can see why they may not play nice.

I guess I only know when I get the goods which as I said I doubt will be before march.

    • This is is happening to me as well. Are there any avenues? Maybe we could lodge a paypal complaint?

  • I just confirmed with gearbest on livechat that if I ordered the pipo today it would definitely be shipped within 5 business days.

I find this very concerning as my preorder and my mum's preorders haven't shipped yet. I wonder if they are shipping those who pay full price first? Has anyone who preordered actually had theirs ship?

    • The OP received his bodge but gather it was part of his deal in reviewing the pipo and posting it on OzB, given the deal is now 24 days old, and his comment above.

      • +2

Although the code works, it appears unlikely the product will be available anytime soon. Freak tab users are complaining of orders being placed in December and still getting a run around. I have asked the OP to place a warning on his review and this offer so people don't get sucked in.

        • Good work VJ. Darkscythe may be wise to take down the $107USD on his website given that a code is pretty useless if no stock is available. We are not funding a start-up here.

  • I have sent two emails to geek buying asking where my order is without a reply. Has anyone received their order or at least been notified that it has shipped?

    • Geekbuying website states presale ends on 31/1/15, and that black units will not be in stock for another week. Gearbest are emailing customers they are 2 weeks away from filling their orders. Pipomall (official outlet for Pipo product) has deleted the product from sale. Doesn't look promising, my guess is Pipo cannot fill the orders. I am giving Geekbuying until 7/2/15 to ship otherwise I will cancel my order and file a PayPal claim if funds not returned within a week.

  • Yeah same same … no updates? Just sent them a msg. Was going to wait for livechat but taking too long? Have you been guys been billed yet?

    • Gearbest took my money on the 15/1 when the first "extended" presale ended. Not shipped yet though.

  • Have opened a paypal dispute. I had ordered some other items at the same time as ordering the Pipo and 3 1/2 weeks later no sign of them. Advised they are being shipped with Netherlands Post but the delivery time on their site showed 5-11days.
It would be delusional to expect delivery in 5-11days when using UPU/International mail services..
Wont make the same mistake again with this lot. Just hope for all the rest of the buyers they are using a better delivery service than registered IMS!

    • +1

I cancelled my Gearbest order of Jan 17th earlier today after receiving a reply re expected shipping date of the order.
      Gist of it was;

      We have no stock.
We don't know when new stock will be arriving.
We don't know when your order will be sent.

With Chinese New Year shutdown looming and the expected arrival date being continually put back I think punters will be lucky to receive their Pipo X7 by mid March.
Personally I'd much sooner wait for another price drop on the excellent Zotac ZBOX B1320 at Amazon.
(Now kicking myself for not buying 2!)

  • Geekbuying now lists the pipo as being on sale and there is a timer indicating the deal ends in less the two hours. Wonder what will happen at the end of the two hours.

    • …..they must be hoping the stocktake kid counted correctly.

  • This is god damn bullcrap! Just send the damn thing.

  • +2

Got an email today saying mine has shipped (with tracking number), I ordered about two hours after the deal was posted.

What irks me is I paid $6.50 for expedited shipping that said 4-7 days, yet the invoice now says 8-25 days.

  • CH is right, shipping is happening, FINALLY.

    Got this from support:

Thank you very much for your recent message.

I have checked the stock availability and I’m extremely pleased to inform you that the items you have ordered are in stock and are now ready for shipping.

We kindly ask that you wait for one or two days more before you receive the tracking no. for the shipment.

    • Did you guys get the white? Mine still no stock

      • White here, I think it was the only colour when I ordered.

  • They contacted me today saying unfortunately they don't have any stock and are not sure when they will be getting stock.
Seriously considering cancelling my order and issuing a paypal refund.
My question is, are there any alternatives? Dont mind spending 200 if it's worth it. Any news on when the HP stream mini will be available?

  • Bought the white one with AU plug, about an hour after posting. Just got this when i asked what was happening.

Thanks for placing orders with our company. I am indeed sorry to tell you that the items you ordered are not avalible now, and it will restock on 2015-02-10,so would you like to keep waiting? change it with other models you like?
Anticipate your early reply. Sorry for the inconvenience we caused. If you have any other questions, let me know,I will do my best to help you.

    • An extra 11 days wait isn't the end of the world. In my mind they should be offering vouchers or the like to make up for their false estimates in delivery and stock availability.

  • I ordered 11 Jan and the response to my query about no despatch within the time indicated when my payment was processed was:

"I am so sorry the item 116299501 is no longer in stock, can you exchange it or get a refund?"

Any mention of complying with their side of what I took to be a contract was absent and what would have happened if I had not queried this??

A bit disappointing as up to then (actual delivery) all was good.

  • About the item "PIPO X7 Windows 8.1",there are hundreds of buyers waiting for them .

we press the factory everyday and try our best to get much more number for our customers,

but it is still far away not enough . We only ship some part of orders before than you ,hope you can understand.

it will be meet the demands within this week .would you mind waiting for a while ?

Any other problem, feel free to contact us.

    Best regards

    Dora

These are the responses from geek buying :

Thanks for your order l.here we are sorry for the inconvenience.

we have postponed the shipping of your parcel, but the item (X7 Black )is very popular and we couldn't meet all the requires now.

The factory may need more time for quality testing and ensuring the product can work prefect. We would appreciate if you can understand this situation.

Would you mind choosing the Sliver: http://www.geekbuying.com/item/339668 - Silver(24182917)

Because we can get more numbers about this color.

anyway if you have any opinion of it , please feel free to contact us .

    We apologize for the inconvenience.

    Nice day

    Dora

    • Those are my emails from geek buying so far. Don't know if they're offering to change my order to the silver one or they're trying to trick me into canceling and paying more because they're now getting charged more by the supplier and they stand to lose money. HP stream mini is looking more appealing. I'm getting a bit tired of playing games with dodgy Chinese suppliers to save a few bucks

      • Geek Buying look like they're heading down the path to Ozbargain oblivion. Are people getting the same response from Gear Best?

      • I was told by geek buying there are around 300 orders to be filled, and 70-100 are being filled every week. If I don't see anything in the next fortnight I am cancelling and will buy the new raspberry pi 2 instead which will run a slim downed version of win 10 (apps based).

  • Sorry I was not clear, my order was with Gear Best(for silver if that matters) and that was their response. Seems to me the same story is being repeated across a lot of suppliers (perhaps too cosy with a supplier that cannot deliver?).
While I appreciate the benefits of a Linux (or android) based Baytrail media player, I am fairly locked into a Windows environment and this device ticked most of the boxes. So I am still keen to understand if this is just a delay or there is no real hope of delivery before the Paypal refund period runs out.

  • My order for a silver X7 was just shipped out today. Ordered about 2 hours after the OP posted the deal.

    • Gearbest or Geekbuying?

  • My Gear Best order has shipped with tracking number.

    • Black or Silver? Both now show out stock.
I ordered fairly early on then changed to a black one. They took my money on the 16/1 and still no movement.

      • +1

Silver. Order placed 5th Jan. Tracking shows it was collected 31st Jan and "In Transit to Destination" on 2nd Feb.

        • +1

          Arrived 10th Feb.

  • This will be a long long wait for delivery :)

  • I'll be connecting this to my non-smart TV and using it for lazing back in the couch browsing the interwebs, youtube, watching movies from USB HDD, as well as playing games such as Deponia series, The Dark Eye series, Neverwinter Nights 2, some indie Steam games.

Due to the limited internal storage the games will be installed to the external USB HDD, I suppose I have no other options but should I be expecting any issues with the transfer speeds of ~25MB/s for the things that I want to do above?

  • I placed my order on the 3rd Jan, and still it is showing as "Processing"….Contact gearbest, they said their supplier is asking for another 10 days, so I will have to wait. Very disappointed!

  • +3

My silver one was delivered today, works well.

  • Now I'm worried. Mine hasn't been sent yet, but in other forums, I see people mentioning activation fee, over heating and major supply issues….

    • +2

People say all sorts of crap on the internet. You need to be more discerning to separate fact from fiction. Obviously there's supply issues but the other 2 is more conjecture/old news than fact.

  • +5

Received mine from Gearbest, but I'm a little special (seriously) so I'm not sure whether this is a sign for others who bought from Gearbest about their Pipo X7s being shipped out.

Here is what I can say so far:

    1. It comes with Windows 8.1 with Bing, already activated
    2. No overheating or heat issues at all
    3. Windows Defender slows it to a crawl, disable that
    4. It is much slower than you think.
    5. Five dozen updates have to be performed
    6. WiFi seems to be stable
    7. Had no issues playing large content through USB-attached storage
    8. x64 chipset, but 32-bit Windows is installed
    9. The graphics is the bottleneck, scoring about 3.1 on the WEI

Let me know if you want to know anything in specific.

    • +1

Sounds about right to me. On par with expectations.

    • You received Silver or Black ?

    • +1

It is pretty slow, I'm running Eset a/v so it's not too bad, I've also had an Asus T100 for a while so knew roughly what to expect from the Baytrail, it's still a big step up from the previous gen Atoms.

No overheating issues here either, it runs pretty cool.

    • Will it be ok for giving Xbmc (Kodi), work movies of an attached 4Tb drive?

      • Haven't installed Kodi yet, but I don't see why not. I'll try it out later and report back tomorrow. If I don't report back, comment again and I'll get a notification to do so.

    • How does it perform with Steam streaming?

    • +1

Check your event log. Mine shows its being throttling by firmware.

Guy in this post has pulled it apart and found there is no heat sink.
      http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.php?22329-Pipo-X7-interna…

And this guy has added heat sinks to solve it.
