Presale: Pipo X7 Intel Quadcore Windows Mini PC USD $89.98 Inc Shipping @ GearBest

1530
PipoX7LM

I'm a massive sucker for these tiny Windows boxes and I saw PiPO have released the X7. The PiPO X7 is an Intel Quadcore Mini PC which runs Windows 8.1 with Bing. The enclosure is apparently all aluminium. PiPO has been around for a while, predominately making tablets.

I asked GearBest for a coupon for the PiPO X7 and they gave me one for my readers so I thought I'd share it as everyone seems interested in small, cheap Windows boxes. Cheapest I can find for the X7 on AliExpress is $109.99.

There is more information here: Mod: Site removed - do not link to site with affiliate links

There's also more info on the Intel chip itself here: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-Atom-Z3736F-Tablet-SoC.12…

Technical Specs:

  • Chipset: Intel Baytrail quad core processor with Intel HD graphics (Z3736F)
  • RAM: 2 GB DDR3
  • Storage: 32 GB eMMC + micro SD slot up to 32GB
  • Video & Audio Output: HDMI 1.4, 3.5mm Audio
  • Connectivity: 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, Fast Ethernet
  • USB: 4x USB 2.0 port
  • Other Features: Power button
  • OS: Windows 8.1 with Bing

Please note this is a presale but I'm told it should be shipping very soon.

Edit: I spoke to GearBest as I wanted to get the best price for my readers so same coupon gets it for $89.98 now

      • Wow, thanks a lot for pointing that out. I'll order some heat sinks now :)

  • +1

Raised paypal dispute, got refund. I was hoping to get the device but might need to try again from another supplier. They over sold it and now can't fulfill orders.

  • I placed the order on the 3rd Jan, do I still have the opportunity to raise paypal dispute ? Normally how long do we have to be able to do so ?

    • +1

      90 days.

  • Anyone know if this Pipo X7 would out perform the new Raspberry 2? (http://www.raspberrypi.org/raspberry-pi-2-on-sale/)

    • +1

PiPO X7 has an x86-64 processor, the Raspberry Pi 2 is an ARM-based processor. Like comparing apples to oranges unless you're after specific tasks, i.e whether or not Kodi would run better.

      • Thanks. Good points.
The new Rpi will run Win 10 though - which opens it up a bit.

My main goal for my Pipo (If I continue with my purchase) would be to run Kodi. If it runs Kodi 100%, and I can get my media from attached storage - then I'm a happy chappy. It sounds like it will be fine, but @ausmechkeyboards mentioned above - in bold … that "It is much slower than you think.".

Edit - just noticed I refered to you in the post. Didn't realise. :)

        • Kodi works well with the few files I've played so far, haven't tried multi-channel HD-audio as it's connected to the bedroom telly, but tested both 1080 h264 mythbusters rips via USB, and my uncompressed BR rips over local ethernet.

        • Check the OP's link to his website where he discusses Kodi on Pipo and (other bizarre anime fantasies)

  • +1

i cancelled my order and bought a nuc instead. it cost me around 180 all up as i had a spare 60gb ssd lying around. delivered in 2 days. Just letting ppl know in case you are looking for an alternative

    • Which, where

      • I got the nuc for 149 delivered from this offer

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/180826

That deal is expired however nuc's go on sale quite regularly

I bought some cheap ram, but as mentioned I had a spare hard drive which had os on it.

If u are buying HD as well it becomes a fair bit more expensive than the pipo, but I was over it after ordering early Jan

  • Hmmm still waiting for mine. Ordered early, got an email on 22 Jan saying it was being shipped … then nada. No tracking number, no mystery parcel on my door step.

Have raised a pp dispute :(

  • +3

Gbest are useless. Never again. Online chat just stop responding randomly when you ask a question.

  • Applied for a refund via PayPal, got an instant refund from GearBest. Makes me think that they have no intention of fulfilling all the orders placed.

  • +4

They want to give refunds as their costs have gone up. Both gearbest and geekbuyjng wont be getting my business again, they're dishonest.

    • Yeah they were all too eager to provide a refund. I said no as I've waited for so long and I'm just going to hang in there. I think they'll be more than happy to get rid of the presale buyers.

      • +2

Lets just hope they don't cancel and refund us automatically without asking :)
If that happens then then for sure I won't shop with them again!

Isn't there a GearBest store rep on OZB?

Would be nice if the GearBest store rep could give us an update / ETA on re-stocking or delivery….

  • Ordered: 20th Jan, /2015 (2 x Silver)
    Shipping date: 2nd Feb, 2015
    Shipping methods: NLpost
Estimated Delivery Time: 15-30 business days

(Didn't use any special shipping options)

    • Ordered: 15th Jan (1 x Black)
      Status: Processing
      :-(

      • GearBest say they have received some stock of the Silver version and would I like to change the colour of my order. I replied that I will accept any colour, so I'm still hopeful..

    • Ordered 1 black 19th Jan 2015

      Status: Processing

Guess they ran-out of the black version lol

  • +2

Ordered: Jan 9 (black - after cancelling silver order that was placed Jan 4)
    Money taken - Jan 16

    Still not shipped.

    • same here

  • My geekbuying order has just been shipped. I ordered the black originally but they later asked if I wanted to change to silver which I agreed to if it was quicker. Didn't get a reply so it will be interesting to see what I get.

  • Ordered silver with AU power plug early Jan. GOt eamil 22/01/2015 that my payment has been processed and that it will be shipped out within 3-5 business days. About 7 business days later still order status is in "Processing". Opened a ticket and to ask why and they advised they were still going through QA checks.

Finally they advised QA failed so they are getting parts from the supplier, which means more delays!

I've had enough so I cancelled the order and asked for a refund which they have complied with. Right now waiting for refund to come through, which I hope will.

Don't know if I trust GearBest anymore if they can't get QA done earlier before shipping. I would have thought this would have been done before the pre-sale ends and before them notifying me that it will be shipped within 3-5 business days.

  • I hope more people CANCEL their black orders to improve my chances of getting one this decade.

    • LOL :) Same here… Will be a long wait with the Chinese new year…

  • Ordered two (silver version) on the 04/01, shipped on the 31/01. Arrived yesterday, nice little unit.. only negative is the dodgy power adapter/converter that they shipped with the power pack..

  • FYI after processing for 22 days geekbuying sent my order today. Ordered on 20/01 in black.

  • +1

    Black shipped today from Gearbest.

  • So uh hey. this is getting ridiculous.

    Thanks for your time.
    We sincerely apologize the inconvenience.
The items are out of stock again due to high requirement. It will restock on 2015-03-01.
Would you like to change it into others or receive the refund directly?
    Looking forward to your respond.
Sorry for this issue once again.
    Best regards,
    Georgia

  • Finally!! Mine's on its way but the tracking number looks a bit suss, says Netherlands Post Registered (RS211167333NL)?

    • +1

Shouldn't be suss. Log into your account on gearbest and go to orders. They actually take a picture of the package and you can see your address and everything on it.

  • Ordered on the 15th Jan and it still shows "Processing" a MONTH later

  • Ordered mine from geekbuying on 21/01 in black version - shipped 2 days ago by DHL - hope to see it by end of the week.
Question for those who has it already - is Norton Internet Security will be to heavy for the unit and slowing it too much? (It is antivirus+firewall)? Any good alternatives if it so?

  • ordered 3 units (black) from gearbest on 21/01.

    just received an email update:

We are sorry for keeping you waiting so long.
We have received some stock for the silve version, would you mind changing the color for your order?
If you wish to accept it,then please contact us today,so we can ship it out before China New Year holiday.

agreed for swap to silver to beat Chinese New Year holidays, but appears some other folk are getting black ones from gearbest.

  • +4

Dear OZB members, the demand of Pipo X7 was far beyond our and our vendor's expectation. Although we kept on shipping products out as soon as we got from the factory, for many buyers, we are still haven't shipped their products out yet. The Pipo factory confirmed with us today that there won't be any new batch of products out before Chinese New Year, and due to lack of material, the next big batch of Pipo X7 can not be produced until the end of March. Currently we still have 49 silver version in stock, and our customer service representatives have already started contacting buyers to see if they are interested in switching to silver version. Please contact our customer service directly to switch to silver version or apply for an immediate full refund.

Please accept our sincere apology, and hope we can continue to offer OZB community value deals in the Chinese New Year of Goat.

    • Thanks for the update

    • I didn't receive any email asking to switch to the silver version, although it sounds like people who placed their order after mine were contacted about switching.

  • Yup I got the email and bit the bullet. Going for silver instead to get it asap. I can always spray paint.

    • Same, hope they didn't run out of the 49 silver boxes lol…

Wait and see till tomorrow if there is a shipping / tracking confirmation in mailbox :)

  • I got the email today too and went with a silver unit (i ordered black originally), as I'm not really fussed what color it is, as long as i get the (expletive) thing!

I'd ordered on 15 Jan and was charged on 21 Jan and been impatiently waiting ever since.

I've learnt an important lesson here.
    NEVER BUY PRESALE!!!

    • Well we did get it a lot cheaper and have first dibs on stock.

    • I think the major problem lied in the fact that these people clearly sold more than they can handle.
My girlfriend cancelled her transcation after waiting around 1 month on this.
I'd probably never use Gearbest for presales stuff from now on, or at the very very least count in the fact that it probably would not arrive anytime soon after the paypal transaction.

  • Received my black unit today. Shipped on Monday

  • I have had my silver one shipped on the 31st (ordered on the 2nd of jan) and my mum's black one was shipped on the 11th of Feb (ordered 9th of jan). (Via gearbest) haven't received either yet.

It is quite a time to wait but it doesn't bother me too much because it was a great price (as long as it works well). The delays are really out of GB's control, always a risk when buying a brand new product that isn't in production yet.

  • So apparently they have stock of the Black. or someone who was getting one asked for a refund.
mind you this is after attempting and failing 3 times over the last week to get them to send one regardless of what colour it was.

So hey, if they're actually being honest some of y'all might actually be getting your orders at some point. or not.
first and last time ordering from this lot.

Thanks for your reply.Sorry for our mistake, the original item has been restocked in advance.
I’m delighted to inform you that all of the items are readying for shipping. They are packaging now. We will ship it in next two or three days. Please wait for a few days Patiently.
If you have any other questions, let me know,I will do my best to help you.

  • What a wait :)

Anyone who switched to silver version yesterday received delivery / tracking notification?

    • Yes, I've got a tracking number. "The item is pre-adviced"

      • My silver PIPO arrived today. It looks very promising and is busy applying Windows updates now.

  • Yeah me too but changed to US plug too. Oh well

  • Ordered mine (black) on the 13th Jan - Still no sign of it, and no contact from the support enquiring if I want to swap to the silver.

    • I don't think they are contacting people unless you email them first asking for a status. They probably assume you don't care unless you are on their case about it. You know the squeaky wheel….

      • I've been in contact with their support since just after the pre sale ended. Every time they just say it's out of stock still and pick a date 10-14 days away when they expect it back in stock, also stating I can have a full refund if I want.

        • chat or email/ticket?

        • @gimme:

          Through their ticking system.

Just had another update today (yesterday was the latest restock date) after I enquired about the status.

"We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience that may have been caused. I am indeed sorry to tell you that the all the items you ordered are not available now due to the arrival of the Chinese Spring Festival, most manufactures are in their holiday. Therefore these items will restock around 2015-03-15.For this condition ,would you like to keep waiting for restocking ? or just replace it with other models you like? or receive the refund directly?
          Anticipate your early reply.
Sorry for the inconvenience again. If you have any other questions, let me know,I will do my best to help you."

Not looking good for receiving this any time soon

        • After messaging the GearBest rep on OZB they've now switched my order to the silver and it was dispatched this morning. Things are looking up.

  • Ordered mine of the 20th of Jan. Order stuck at "Processing" status for around 20 days.

Then I read the review regarding terrible overheating issue on the unit (something about the heat-sink not really contacting the CPU which cause throttling ).

So I quickly asked to cancel& get a refund for my order on the 12th. Got No respond for 3 days and surprise! I got a notification email that my order has been shipped. Damn :(

    • meh, no 'terrible' overheating issue. If you're that concerned just buy $1 heatsink and some grease from ebay. No big deal. If you really don't want it, I'm sure someone on here would gladly take it off your hands.

Tip: When you read some rubbish on the internet, don't just stop at a few posts, carry on and read the general consensus or the solution.

      • you're right, thanks for the suggestion. I'm gonna try and see for myself whether there's a CPU throttling issue first.

        • +1

If you go down that path. All the items (combined) can be purchased from ebay for $5.
          http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.php?22381-X7-Extreme-Test…

        • @gimme:
Ended up costing me about $15 from eBay all up. You'd be lucky to get it for $5. The 5mm thermal pad alone is about $10.

Order my silver one on the 22nd and got the 'posted' email over the weekend.

  • +1

Ordered on Jan 2nd and still waiting.
    Ouch.

  • Ordered on Jan 7th (paid US $2 extra for insurance) the silver unit with default (US plug).
Gearbest Posted on Jan 29, 2015.
Received the unit today with the converter plug for 240V.

  • Did anyone have any luck with GeekBuying?

I ordered a silver unit on 2/1 with the item being posted on the 8th, yet still don't have the item. PostNL updated the tracking status to say "on transport to the country of destination" back on 18/1, and have since updated the status with the same message on 14/2. See image here

Don't know what to make of this.

  • Mine arrived today,
A bit pissed off as the power pack is with straight contacts and AU adapter, not very safe (I have asked specifically if it comes with correct adapter, was told not to worry)
There is no manual, Cd or anything in the box apart from a warranty card.
    Manuals anyone?

    • Manual for what? Turn it on and follow the prompts.

      • Thanks for that!
Downloaded but not much in it…

        • Yeah its always like that with Chinese gadgets the user manual is always poor or nonexistent :)
The drivers might be useful for later on…

Cant wait to receive my order

    • +1

I always carefully bend the US style pins to fit our Australian plugs. I feel this is safer than using the crappy cheap adapter.

      • costs more by default…… but I like to buy replacement aussie power supplies for stuff like this… Too bad its not like laptops/nuc's.etc just replacing the cloverleaf cords work's a treat in those cases….

  • Just received my silver pipo x7 (ordered 2nd of jan) -haven't fired it up yet but it looks really nice

  • +2

Just a warning for anyone like me who likes to bend US pins to fit Australian plugs (dodgey I know but better than using crappy adaptors) - DON'T DO IT. I think the pins must be soldered to the PCB or something (usually the AC pins are connected by wire) because it's now really loose and connection is very intermittent.

  • +1

I got my unit, used pliers to twist the power pack prongs from US to AU,works well. I am blown away by the value of this deal, I'm convinced it's not going back to the presale price anytime soon, if it does you can be sure I'll be buying a few more. Windows 8.1 runs beautifully on it and there's included a 1 year license for office 365 after boot. It runs well but when you multitask you can see it struggle with 2gb ram, however boot from powered off state is amazingly fast, like 15 seconds or so. Runs YouTube perfectly and I've even installed NEXTPVR and XBMC/Kodi on it. Other niggle was that there is no way to adjust overscan using the Intel Graphics control panel on this unit. After a lengthy search, I had to dig into my Panasonic Plasma's Service menu to fix this, which is probably a good thing since it would have added processing load to the unit. The Netherlands Post is legitimate but is slow, so be patient. When you get this unit you'll be astounded by the value. Think about it, windows 8.1 and office 365 cost well above the price you've paid. The shocking thing is that it runs the software well. With xbmc it's the perfect htpc, silent and low powered, pair it with nextpvr and you can view and record live tv. One other minor complaint is the red LED at the front is a bit too bright, used in a dark room it can be very distracting.

    • +2

Thanks Vietsolider. Could you have a go at Steam in-home streaming if its something you use and report back. Kodi and this are the two things i'll be doing. Great Kodi plugin that starts steam and when you exit steam it starts Kodi again.

  • +2

I have a powerboard that has AUS plug on the lead and has 2 AUS and 2 US style sockets.
I believe is an excellent solution.
Unfortunately I cannot remember where I bought it from (DX? DinoDirect? TinyDeal?)

  • Received mine last Friday. Love it.

Goes well with my dirt cheap Microsoft media keyboard.

Haven't touched my Surface Pro 3 that I usually use in bed since I got this baby!

  • Finally got mine! Time to set it up with Kodi and see how it goes…

  • Got mine yesterday…
Installed Chrome, Spalshtop Streamer and Plex Media Server. All good until I disconnected the HDMI cable (no need for it since it's going to be a server), then LAN port goes to sleep after a short while. Can no longer connect to it until I plug the HDMI cable back in. Checked control panel, power settings and even the energy saving option in the network adapter. Nothing to turn this feature off. Anyone have a solution for this?

    • Could there be an option in the BIOS?

  • +1

Can't decide between this and NUC. While searching online stumbled on this:

    http://www.hystou.com/products/fanless-computers/core-i3-min…

Quite impressive specs. Thoughts? I might get one of these.

    • Looks nice, especially the USB 3.0, upgradeable RAM, SSD and 300mpbs wireless. I'd only spend the extra $150 if I absolutely would make use of those features though.

  • I still haven't received mine yet. Pre-ordered 2/1/15, dispatched 27/1/15.

    • Neither have I, and mine dispatched 10/1/15 from GeekBuying. They are saying that this sort of timeframe is expected… so don't hold your breath.

  • Finally received mine yesterday and its all up and running great.

Only niggle so far is sometimes it loses the lan port on startup, but a reboot fixes it.

    Wow this thing boots fast!

    • Got confused about the wired lan not working (including no lights), changed cables, ports on switch ETC, gave up.
      Did the configuration using WiFi.
Later after config and updates I noticed that the LAN port become live again and since had no more troubles since.
There were a ton of updates (and updates to updates) to apply…

  • Got mine this morning, runs great. Installed steam to try out some indie games on it - runs the 2d stuff beautifully. 3D stuff like dungeon defenders not so good (to be expected), friend of mine was interested in my reports to see if he could use one for the kids playing minecraft (early reports suggest this is not the machine for that). For indie games, web browsing and media applications very pleased - great price. Shame it took so bloody long to arrive.

    • Have you tried Steam In-Home Streaming? Would be interested to see if it was quick enough to handle it.

      • Same here, would never actually install any games directly on to it. Would be interested in streaming though (guess i could install the small stuff directly.)

  • Just gave it a quick go - very good for streaming!

    • streaming videos, or Steam in home streaming for games?

      • +3

Steam - as per the comments above

        • sweeeet :)

  • Mine turned up. Ordered a black unit and received a silver, however wasn't one of the people who received an email asking if I wanted to change. Pretty shitty service. And no way i'd go through trying to return it and get a black one as a replacement from a company that took forever in the first place.

Hope the actual unit itself is worthwhile.

    • Mine arrived today. I ordered a black, they asked if I would take a silver as there were more in stock, I said yes, yet today a black one arrived. I fully agree that the service has been terrible. First and last time I buy from geekbuying, doesn't sound like gearbest were much better.

  • Got mine today and already there's an issue with it. It works fine when HDMI is plugged in but as soon I remove HDMI (which I don't need) the LAN adaptor starts bouncing up and down non-stop. Almost every second.

    • There have been reports that the bundled PSU output voltage is not stable which causes problems including lan issues. My lan connection has been more stable (touch wood) since I swapped the PSU.

      • I took a complete stab in the dark and superglued my el-cheapo AUS adaptor to the PSU. It was a little loose before but still worked. Lo and behold the ethernet works now!!(go figure) Very happy. Other than that everything works great and I still have 17Gb space left after cleaning up all the junk.
