Firearm related deals are allowed on Ozbargain?

    • +1

      Its a scope Jim.

      • I can see that, not sure why my genuine question was negged.

        • -6

why does anything ever get negged on oz bargain?

          my point has been made!

        • +1

why wouldnt they be allowed? anyone can legally own a scope and they can be used for other things like my mate had a camera setup looking through one to get close up vids from over a mile away :)

        • You tell me, apparently my question of

"Are firearm 'accessory' deals allowed on Ozbargain" doesn't sit quite right with some people.

        • -1

a scope is not a firearm

if it can be sold without a license then that is legal

nekminit they want to ban knives

          Hi ScrimShaw,

Indeed, Rifle Scope is Firearm Related Products, some websites had actually banned it, but we do read all the rules on OZBargain before putting this deal online. For your Information, you may refer to this link. (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/help:banned_items)

@nosdan: Scopes allowed? Adult products not? Sigh.

        • +4

not sure why my genuine question was negged.

          Fair guess?

Because you were bordering on igniting another epic, 12-indentation level, 3-page long debate on gun laws and gun control perhaps.

          @Lukian:
I think we need an 18+ section of OzBargain

        • AFAIK, this is the first ever scope deal thus why there has never been discussion nor is on the ban list of items. If you feel that scopes shouldn't be allowed on OzBargain, please start a thread in site discussion.

Ban lists are comprised between what the community wants as well as legal and ethical responsibilities.

        • @neil:

          Thanks for replying mod.

I for one, bow to our ban list overlords.

I need a scope which could help me hit something like a moving watermelon from say the 6'th floor of a book depository, would this do the job?

    -LHO

    • +8

no, there is actually no way you could hit JFK a watermelon from the 6th floor of a book depository

you would have to be standing closer to a grassy knoll…

      would this do the job?

I've got something that'll do the job real good. I'll show you as you're being escorted by police from the Dallas Municipal Building on national TV.

as a shooter, I for one welcome you to OzBargain. More power to you

man it p's me off they cant ship something so simple as a scope to Australia:
    http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/821847-REG/BARSKA_AC11…
    135 USD!

although they seem popular haven't heard of Barska scopes…

    • What's the issue with shipping the scope? Is it the seller's refusal or are there actual regulations concerning importing scopes?

      • From what i can tell its a little bit of both… US cant ship tavtical gear out bit can ship other stuff like stocks…as long as they arent tactical.

        • +1

US cant ship tactical gear out

there is some intricacies but it can be done. "we" (me and the guy im working with) have been importing for sale all sorts of things from 'merica for resale in aus including 30 round 10 round mags amongst other things (they are sold as 10's but easily unlocked for 30 which is legal here in SA but not interstate) http://www.iceng.com.au/Images/4.jpg (i think we have currently sold out of the mags, more stock should be arriving soon)

why you would want a $200 scope, unless all your shooting is a .22 at 25m is a little beyond my comprehension tho :) no way they are accurate enough either with large caliber or over long range.

ive been doing mostly long range shooting lately. i have a private range on a farm 20 mins drive away we routinely shoot out over 1000 yards and access to another property a few hours away we are aiming for 2 miles (little over 3km) so it warrants scopes more in the range of $3k-$4k :D

        • @nosdan: Speaking of long-range shooting, does SA still have Australia's only public range where you can reliably sight in and zero .50 BMG rifles at 2-3km distances? I know around 10 people or so in SA actually own .50 BMG rifles.

        • we are currently tooling up to legally manufacture 50cal barrels (and obviously therefor complete riffles etc), so no issues with trying to get imported ones past customs who block them on "policy" rather than "legality"… as for a public range they are allowed at id have to find out about that caus i dont have specific knowledge about a lot of this sort of stuff.

while i used to shoot decades ago, its only been recently that ive got back into it so i only really know the things ive been involved in over the last few years.. and as im sure you know legislation as well as "policies" change if not daily then weekly so its a little hard to keep track unless your a lair lawyer
