Piracy is wrong according to who or what?
no he has all the original discs but he doesnt want them to scratch
also you legally have 24 hours to evaluate roms and isos according to international law

      • -5

You know very well why piracy is wrong according to who.

I am however very interested where you read one has 24 hours to evaluate roms and isos according to international law?

      • +5

I heard about this "law" very often, but where could I find more information about it?

      • +1

Lol at international law. That brings me back to the pre torrent rom sites. Memories.

    • I believe it is legal however to make a back up of content you own, such as to avoid problems with scratched discs.

      Spelling with letters is wrong

      • +3

How is one meant to spell, if not with letters?

      • Perhaps you mean numbers instead of letters, mate?

        • -1

          Haha yep.

          Spelling with numbers is wrong.

Ozbargain and pirates are 2 different things. I think you should edit the description.

Using legally owned back ups on a modded system and piracy are two different things.

      • Yes, I just want to mod my theme a bit

        cricket noises

  • +1

doesnt matter about piracy on this as it will only last a few months until it overheats and rings

stuffs me why people would buy a 1st gen xbox

    • +2

Agree although I still have mine. Runs perfectly… After sending it back for repairs 3 times.

Ive had one for about 5 years. Used heaps and never missed a beat. Only drawback is no wireless so have to buy adapter or hook up directly to pc/router

    • You'd need to check the serial number on it.

There were 3 editions of motherboard for the white version, only the first 2 had the heating issue.

      • Jasper's the good one for the fat.

    • -2

The 360 is actually the second gen of Xbox, and is decent and cheap for playing recent games as well as doubling as a media player.

  • I've been interested in purchasing one to use as a media server once moded and playing some classic games that I have but I'm concerned about the red ring issue with these older models.

    • Be concerned about the power consumption and heating as well. Not sure what you mwan by classic games there though :).

    • I think eb games give 12 month warranties for preowned stuff. But I am not sure.

      • +2

3 months I thought, we could check the website… but I prefer speculation.

  • Is there any mod you can do to prevent it overheating and ringing? Is it just a matter of changing thermal paste and increasing airflow or is it a soldering issue (like the PS3's) which required a reball with quality solder?

    • +2

There used to be this thing called 'X-clamp' that would fix it, not sure if its relevant any more though.

I've had my phat console for maybe 7 years (possibly more) and it has never had a problem. Just make sure it gets good ventilation. I'd say the only con is that it runs very loud.

    • any Phat that is still working is probably safe, IMO.

I have two Phats that have never RROD.

      • I have 3 phats, 1 xenon and 2 jaspers.

The xenon RROD with DVD CFW installed — sent back for repair under warranty (Microsoft 3 year warranty) after reversing the CFW to OFW and has not RROD since.

        All are JTAGed now.

Wasn't the previous deal heaps better? $98 with 5 classic games?

Perhaps better to wait till this comes around again

guys, it's against the rules to talk about or promote piracy (or legal back ups) on this site.
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/help:banned_items

I know because I typed a lengthy reply to a thread in the forum with helpful advice only to face a "thread deleted" message when I hit submit.

Legal backups are legal? Nuff said.

    • JTAG is legal because it allows you to circumvent regionlocks.

Here's a link to a classic youtube video. Enjoy.
