I'm assuming this is instore only?

  • Sweet will pop by the store to see if it is $68…

  • Any pic of the $68?

  • yeah in store, was like this a few weeks ago. my store had 3 in stock

EB games Canberra City says that they don't have any in stock in store. They were assuming it is boxing day special price which would've ended few days ago according to them. I am not sure about the price, but when I asked them, they said the price is 170 something.

EDIT: It must be in-store only thing, since I found a store that will sell me one for 69 dollars.

    • Could you please provide the receipt?

I might head down to my local EB today and try and get one.

      • I will. On my way to EB. Told them to put one off shelf for me.

      • I have bought a brown one.

        • Hey AznMitch, which store did you get yours? :)

        • @brick007123: Woden. So City and Woden both are out. I think. The lady told me that it was the last one but not sure whether she meant as whole or just brown switch. I got the feeling that she meant both of the switches since she actually had to check for the type of switch when I asked her whether it was red or brown.

City is definitely out, I went there and they actually quoted me the full price.

        • @AznMitch:
Tuggeranong has 1 MX RED left, I just bought the second last one.

Was $68 during the Christmas sale (I bought a few for friends). Not sure if it's still available at that price, but definitely a great deal if you can get it. Very good reviews, build quality, and extras (braided cable, keycap puller), all with a 2 year warranty.

Just so you know, the website's stock-finder is extremely unreliable. I work at EB Games, so I know.

  • is there a Mac version?

    • Nope but using a PC keyboard on a Mac is not that bad when you get used to it.

Receipt for brown switch one. Bought it just then.

For any Canberrans who might be interested, it was Woden and it was the last one available.

    • I can confirm that price for the red switch as well.

Will put up the receipt when i grab it out of my car later tonight.

    • How does that help people if you bought the last one :)

I got a RED, brown would of reminded me too much of my Blue MX Black Widow Ultimate :D

      • +7

I said it so people would not make pointless trips. :) I made one to Civic early today.

  • Saw them in store. But price is 108. Same as online. How I can ask them to drop the price to 68.looks like impossible……

    • Beg? Kidney maybe?

    • Price match using the receipt I posted?

  • I just rang my local store and they are $108

  • +3

Got my red one at burwood NSW.

    • Hello, you do the price match or the list price is $68………?

      • List price was $68 according to the staff at Stanhope EB.

If that's not the case for your local store, show them the receipt.

      • Yeah, I got mine with list price as well, if you want a brown one

      • Nope not price match. Website says $108 but when it scans in the system it's $68.

  • I just got an MX RED one from Tuggeranong (ACT).

  • Hi,anyone know what is the different between blue, red ,green and brown. Which one is good for typing and not noisy, cloud? I google but did not really understand what they explain? Thanks. Never use mechanical kb before.

    • +1

I don't mean to sound like a jerk, but look up youtube videos - there are plenty of videos explaining the differences between blue brown red clear etc…

Differences include tactile feedback (loudish noise) and depth before bottoming out etc..

Generally, RED is good for FPS gaming etc as lower pressure points, blue is for typing, and everything else is inbetween.

      • Thanks veenarm. I forgot about you tube. Just watching now :'o

    • Blue is the best for typing but it's also the loudest.

    • Hope this helps mate. http://imgur.com/a/RJqM4

  • I thought I found one at Belconnen Canberra, but apparently it was just display. But I checked that the list price on the system is $68

  • Just grabbed the last one at Airport West, Vic.
Thanks very much for the heads up.

    • there are a few at Broadmeadows VIC .. I saw the deal now and am home now cant be bothered, but it was $108 at the store

  • Thanks guys, I did the price match in sunnybank hills. qld. All good, no drama. The staff help me much. $68, nothing go wrong. The distance for mx Red is very short.. ha

  • Good, thanks

  • I miss my IBM Ps/2…

Edit just bought a red mx at Perth at St Georges Terrace. She advised one brown left

  • Looks good….but can I go back to a wired keyboard??

    • +2

you can if it's your first mechanical keyboard. there's no going back after you get one of these…

      • I've been a programmer for a couple of decades and started off with tougher mechanical keyboards and I so completely don't understand the fuss. I use a MS digital media pro keyboard at home and some cheap HP keyboard at work. I do about 90 wpm if you're lenient on errors (70-75 if you do it according to technical standards).

  • +1

uh…….why would someone spend $68 on a keyboard? enlighten me please..I'm puzzled..

    • If you can't figure it out by yourself (something something G and E and lots of Ls), you don't need nor will you benefit from this keyboard. Move along please :)

      • +1

Ok i give up..I'll move up, i'll just stick to my cheapy logitech one..good enough for me haha..

        • +2

You can drive around in a Ford, or a maserati, your choice.

          @ankor:

          What about a Lambo? ;)

        • @skyl:

heh, whatever you prefer, but I can assure you that cheapo keyboards aren't lambos :))

If you like the membrane keyboards, then that's all good. After I received my mechanical, I had thought to myself after two weeks; why the hell didn't I buy this 10 years ago. If you are on a computer a lot, you might as well make it a nice experience. It just depends on whether you are willing to spend the money on a nice keyboard.

    • -8

Nostalgia. When they were young they used a keyboard built like a tank and about as noisy. They don't like the cheap plastic feel of the newer keyboards and spending $68 is a much cheaper midlife crisis than the wife discovering they have been fooling around with a young blonde named Kim who's only in it for the money. Also much easier to hide than a sportscar.

The excuse is it's suppose to be faster to type on and feel "more tactile" and have a "great clicky sound". Pro gamers (all 3 of them) may or may not get an actual real benefit.

      • +3

You sound like the guy who asks for no ice at Macdonald's

        • -3

You sound the guy that goes into the comedy club and starts heckling before the comedian opens their mouth.

      • …I just wanted to join the hype. You made me feel bad.

Though, if you are playing a game for enjoyment, if having a specific keyboard brings more "joy" (be it perceived incrased in performance, more tactile response, or even that feeling that you've invested more money even if it means nothing) to playing games, I think it's worth the investment depending on how much value you put on that increase in joy. Of course, it would be bad to say that "THIS IS THE BEST THING AND EVERY OTHER TYPES OF KEYBOARDS ARE WRONG".

        • +1

This is the best thing, and all other keyboards are wrong!

      • -2

Thanks for being a dick. I have 3 Mechanical keyboards, it's a bit of a hobby for me. There is a definite increase in WPM for typing, that is an indisputable fact. This is incredibly cheap for a Mechanical Keyboard. If you aren't interested in giving them a go, don't comment, don't be so negative. I personally love my keyboards, and would never go back to rubber domes.

        • An indisputable fact? Nope, not even close. More like marketing aka lying.

          Here's some discussion:
          https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=13491.0

Look if you want to spend up big on a keyboard because you like it, that's your decision. But don't abuse a guy making a joke on a message board and for pity sake stop telling people "don't be so negative" when what you actually mean is "I don't want to hear what you're telling me".

…Or heck ignore me and shoot the messenger…it's your life.

        • @syousef: :P I actually found your joke funny, though, you were sort of going against what the majority of the people who were watching this deal so I'd assume that's why they negged you.

Well, I am going to add an article that supports your argument a little.

          From google scholar:
          http://pro.sagepub.com/content/28/3/267.short

Brunner, H., & Richardson, R. M. (1984, October). Effects of keyboard design and typing skill on user keyboard preferences and throughput performance. In Proceedings of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society Annual Meeting (Vol. 28, No. 3, pp. 267-271). SAGE Publications

Though, since I have never read the full article, couldn't be bothered to chase my library, I cannot comment much, but here is a peer reviewed (I think) article.

This however, wouldn't necessarily give us an conclusion since gaming does require slightly different sets of movement. Not to mention how I've never read the article to look at the data generated (I might even be able to do data analysis and see whether preferences have a significant effect on the typing skill). Also, people may have experienced loss of performance due to reasons that cannot be replicated in lab condition and stuff. In short, the article might be scientific and peer reviewed, but it may not translate well into gaming or real life because… reasons.

Meh, as far as I am concerned, I bought a keyboard that is sturdy. Also my gf seems to like it, which is a big plus for me. She hated my membrane keyboard because it required bit of pressure before it registered the keystrokes.

    • +1

Because some people like the feeling of the mechanical keyboard, and some people prefer having a keyboard that is well built and would be wililng to spend more money on keyboard than other people. It's preferences and other things mixed in together.

If you wanna find out why, try using one of these and see the difference between membrane keyboards and mechanical keyboards. Some keyboard allow people to feel them befoerhand to see whether they like it, so try those. The differences you feel probably are the reason why people invest, but to what extent and whether it is worth that extra dough would be dependent on who the person is.

      • What is even more astonishing is many people who buy these keyboards end up at an office job where they use their employer's membrane keyboard anyway.

  • Hi all, just wondering which one would be more worth for the money when comparing to the Razer Blackwidow BF4 edition which is $90 on COTD?

    • +1

I bought the BWU BF4 but have yet to receive it in the mail

I only use my PC for BF4 so I could be biased anyway

I tried the BWU in store and the keys have a kind of force feedback unlike the Logitech I tried which felt much like a regular keyboard

      • Yeah, the thing is I don't play BF at all and the only reason I would go for that is somehow it's $20 cheaper than the normal BWU on their site.

I probably should go to a store and try it first, but from what you described it sounds like something I'm looking for : )

    • what switches does the keyboard use?

    • Razer's new keyboards don't use Cherry switches, which are the market leaders at the moment. This should be a better keyboard, I have a 2013 Blackwidow, and I don't like it much compared to my other MechKB's.

  • Got one from EB game Heidelberg. It was their last and it is a brown key that I like. Thank you for the OP. It is now joining my other 2 G710+.

  • great deal op! kinda regret i didnt wait for this but i went with the ducky shine 3 for 70$ (got if off gumtree hardly used)! :)

    • better to get a brand one like you did

    • The Ducky is a much better keyboard in my opinion mate, great deal.

      • thanks guys, its a shame the LED behind the letter Y died! :( will be trying to somehow fix it :(

        • Not to hard, just take it apart and replace it. There are a lot of tutorials.

  • Thanks! Just picked up the last one at Heidelberg, VIC. Tagged 108 but scanned 68.

  • Can confirm, picked one up at Port Macquarie a week ago

  • How does this one compare with the Kogan mechanical keyboard that was on here a couple of weeks ago?

  • That's pretty damn cheap if true. Got mine got $110 months back (Cherry MX Brown).

Can confirm it's a pretty good keyboard for typing/gaming/etc.

I don't think I can go back to the standard el cheapo keyboards anymore.

  • i dont think there is any left in nsw area :(

  • What's so good about this deal!? Austin sells the quick fire pro which has backlighting for $59 not on sale.. http://www.austin.net.au/catalog/product/view/id/6854/s/cool…

Only MX red but a great keyboard.

  • Picked one Brown MX from Kwinana, very happy

Reported stock left in Rockingham (Red) and Mandurah (Red, Brown) at about 10am

  • It mentions a detachable USB cable so is this a wireless keyboard?

    • +1

      Nah, it's just replaceable cable.

  • I got one of these before Christmas for $68 from Toowong Brisbane. Feels good.

  • +1

Called multiple stores in Sydney to no avail.

Congrats to those who got one, you lucky bastards.

  • Thanks OP, picked up the last Brown one from Chatswood. Wasn't on shelf, asked the staff on a whim and they said they found 1 in the back after 5 people had called….

  • Picked up the last one at EB Games Altona, Had it on hold since friday and when i picked it up they told me they have had people calling non stop.

  • Thanks OP. I picked one up from the Southland store yesterday (Cherry Red version), I am using it to type now, feels good man!

  • -1

    Thanks.

Got one from Harbour town, Perth. MX Red.

    • wtf I went there yesterday and they said had no stock left ;(

      • Probably you came after me. They did told me that was the last one.

  • Grabbed red switch version from North Lakes, QLD. Price had $178 on box, but scanned in at $68. The store said it had none in stock (on the internet, as well as the store POS), but they definitely had one other (plus the one I purchased). Might be worth checking your local store even if it says out of stock on the website.

  • Picked up a red one at the Benowa Gardens store on the Gold Coast. Said $108 and scanned at $68. I hope it makes me better at gaming.

  • Out of stock at Dandenong VIC. Why? Because I grabbed the last one huehuehue

  • Still saw one in the toowoomba south eb game store. By the way, I grabbed 2 kana dota 2 bundle mouse from there. great deal.
