Don't forget to use cashrewards :D

Good deal but happy with my majoras mask edition. Worth the extra $$$

    • +1

What makes it worth the extra $$$? Trying to decide to go with this deal or wait.

      • +2

It's a limited edition so it's pretty rare and will probs be worth more in the future. But you won't be able to get it any more, it's sold out (unless you want to pay $500 on eBay)

        • Already sold out? I thought it came out next month.

        • +1

@quadcaster: Yep, pre-orders opened yesterday and sold out late evening

        • +5

Wont be worth more after you've used it.

        • @RI4V4N: Yes, but still worth more than what you pay for it, used Ocarina and ALBW 3DS editions sell for over $300

        • @zelda707:

not necessarily. I hear the ALBW 3ds editions on ebay arent attracting too many bids.

        • +1

@trumpedup: Yeah looks like it, i'll see if i can find a cheap one then :)

        • +1

          @quadcaster:
I was on ebgames site at 830 am the minute it went up to make sure one. Nintendo mean limited when they say it. Also have to beat all the scum who buy just to make profit on ebay

        • +1

          @Dany34:

there seems to be alot of them these days. I would have ordered a MM console if it was all purple.. The gold colour just reminds me of the ALBW console which looked better.

        • @trumpedup:
I would prefer purple but it is still really nice. I usually buy nintendo stuff day one but waited knowing this was coming. Very happy to have it ordered

        • What's the point if not to resell it and make money? all comes from the same sweat shop in china.

  • Good stuff, delivery included and $10.00 cheaper than their previous price of $229.

  • +14

    AC adaptor sold separately.

Such an effing scam. "Hey, we're not going to sell you a vital piece of the hardware". How does this not run afoul consumer rights?

    • What the actual hell. Parents are going to buy this for their kids birthday and they are going to cry when they can't play it.

      Whose idea was that!

      • Don't think that's ever going to happen. That's why employees are there for. They'd tell the people buying it they'd need to buy an AC adapter for it.

        • +3

Yes. Because consumers listen to everything you tell them!

I guess I am just a lucky duck for having 3 3DS chargers so this doesn't effect me :D

        • EVERY Nintendo 3DS comes with at least some charge when taken out of the box. No kids will cry when they receive a 3DS on their birthday.
(30 mins later, well that's a different story!)

        • @FrankMcFuzz:

How about donating the extras? :P

        • @TLZ: Well they're not 'extras', I have 3 3DS's, lol.

    • Yes this is an important detail to include in the OP.

    • You can buy third party usb and wall socket adapters on ebay which is helpful, but on principle it is pretty darn awful that they don't provide you with the charger that you NEED to be able to use it.

    • +4

Well take it this way; If they sold it the usual way with the AC adapter the pack would cost us $15 extra. So instead of the price being let's say $219, it would be $234. So what they did is probably they thought they're doing us all a favor and not forcing the adapter on us and sell it separately since a huge number already has the 3DS and we can use that AC adapter instead. Not only that, but also users who don't own a 3DS but do own a DSi can use their AC adapter instead too. So, they're actually being thoughtful and reducing the cost on tons of people who already do have a compatible AC adapter, while the rest of us without any of the two, 3DS and DSi, can purchase it at the "normal" price of $234 ;)

      Hope I made sense!

      • makes sense. i've got an old DS Lite charger. do you think that would be compatible with standard 3DS?

        • +1

DS lite charger is NOT compatible. Sorry!

        • Nah mate. Lite isn't compatible. Just the DSi and the 3DS.

I have a Lite as well and wished it would've worked.

        • +1

          @TLZ:

no they arent being thoughtful they are trying to make extra $$$.

        • +1

          thanks peeps @TLZ:

        • +1

no they arent being thoughtful they are trying to make extra $$$.

@trumpedup: I don't think so. I think this is just Nintendo's own honest, typically odd, logic.

      • +6

Not necessarily true. Just because individual adapters are selling at $15 it doesn't mean that is what additional cost would be added to a New 3DS.

For one, Nintendo would be having them manufactured in large quantities which would reduce the price considerably. Secondly, selling them @ $15 a pop isn't at cost. I imagine they are making a larger profit margin from individual chargers than if they would have bundled them. Thirdly, I would have liked to have traded in my 3DS XL but without a charger my trade-in value would drop considerably. Much more than $15.

If the handheld used a normal Mini or Micro USB I would agree that a charger not being included could be forgiven, but Nintendo uses some stupid proprietary charging port.

I can assure you, Nintendo is doing this for their benefit, not for ours.

        • Finally someone who sees it. I've been a big fan of Nintendo since my old phat gameboy but that doesn't mean I'll over look sneaky things like this.

      • +3

Get your A/C adapter cord from Daiso, use it with any phone charger. $2.80 ea

    • I'd rather the lower price and no AC adapter, I think it's a smart move. I have enough mini-USB cables and wall adapters that output 5v, why would I want another? If you have a mini-usb cable it will plug into just about any phone/tablet charger.

      • I mean, if you've got hundreds already and it saves a couple bucks, I too think that it's a brilliant idea. However, it is a bit sucky for first time customers but I'm pretty sure I'm okay with it.

      • The 3DS doesn't use mini-USB though….? It's a proprietary port. The only people who will already have a charger for the new 3DS are those who had a 3DS, 2DS, or DSi.

      • +1

I'm afraid the 3DS uses a proprietary charging port

    • Yeah I was surprised when they announced this, I thought there was something against this in australian consumer law.

    • Don't forget the fact that Nintendo is already making people buy another 3DS to have certain features in games is just ridiculous… Money grabbing too strong.

  • +5

When is the Wii U going to be on special again…..been waiting for ages.

    • +2

Zelda. I reckon there's gonna be a massive Zelda deal.

But I have been wrong in the past, and Zelda might not be until December.

Starfox is due before Zelda but I doubt Nintendo will want to rely on it enough to ship consoles.

    • Wii U white basic models are pretty much phased out so it's unlikely we'll see the prices when MK8 was released until the next console generation for Nintendo.

      • +1

People seem to think that Nintendo is going to jetison the Wii-U because initial sales were crap. The next 'generation' for Nintendo is, by my assumption, at least 5 years away, Christmas 2018 at the very absolutely earliest.

  • Target also has the dsi XL for $99 (non 3d though so won't really be able to buy many games for it)

    • Can't see it on their eBay store

      • it's in store. Rouse Hill and Castle Hill NSW and I'm assuming others too.

        • Yes lots of things in store but this post uses the code off the eBay store for $20 off $100

  • So what does everyone reckon? $189 delivered good price for the standard New 3DS? Currently $219 at JB and EB. Will it go down any more?

    • +4

Doubt it would go down more

      • Maybe 2018 I reckon

      • +2

Well… it did get cheaper within a few days. It's now $177 delivered.

        • Pretty surprising, honestly never expected that

  • -7

anyone know if you can get a chip in these bad boys to download games onto? i remember i used to do that with the old DS Lite. was called an R4.

    • +3

We shouldn't really support piracy but google is your friend, as they say.

      • +9

Too soon to call it piracy. He might want to download backup of the games he already owns. It is more convenient to carry just one cartridge contain 10 games than 10 different cartridges. I will get negged for this, but I had to say it.

        • he might like homebrew games……

        • I'm with you. Even though I prefer physical over digital but I do like to preserve them. Having backups would be great :)

    • +2

Google says yes, not me of course

    • marcmike11, I'd tell you if you had personal messages enabled.

    • Yes, there's recent fw update for a specific card that allows you to play any 3DS games.

  • This isn't the newest one yet is it? The one with the coloured buttons?

    • This is the newest one, the regular size has the coloured buttons, on the XL only the letters are coloured

  • It's meant to be BACK 2 SCHOOL not back to video games!

    • +1

nah it means back to being skooled in video games…..

  • -2

The screens still scratch when you close the lid. Not fixed even in the "New 3DS". Only way to avoid it is to always keep microfibre cloth sandwiched between the screens when closing. It's an appalling design issue.

Not buying a Nintendo handheld until this is fixed.

    • +4

I have 3 3DS's, and this hasn't happened with any of them :3

      • -2

Had it happen on 3DS and 3DS XL. It's widely known on the internet.

        • I think nintendo wanted the screen to get scratched rather than the screen shatter. It's a design choice so it doesn't break easily when dropped.

        • Same has happened with 2 of mine, bring back the small rubber bits sued on the SP.

        • +1

Are these people it's 'widely known' with, by chance, people who don't own a 3DS? I have a 3DSXL with 2 years usage, up to 600 hours of playtime, 2 preowned 3DS's from a garage sale (One in constant usage), and as I've said, the screens are almost perfect. This includes the top screen as well as the stylus-brutalized but still immaculate touchscreen.

        • I own an original 3ds and a 3ds XL and have had no problems with screen scratches. The edges of the bottom screen sometimes leaves grubby smudges where people have had scratches appear, but those wipe away. No scratches on either unit. I can only comment on my own experience and I know that I close the lids gently, which I think may be why I haven't had issues.

      • I've also never had a problem, i have a regular and an XL

    • Don't close it. :)

    • wtf? no it's been fixed on the new one. What makes you think otherwise?
the whole system has been rearranged to address this issue. there are little nubs that press on where the Start and Select buttons were on the original 3DS on the top screen. because of this they had to move the Start Select buttons to the side under the ABXY buttons where the power button used to be.

FrankMcFuzz doesn't know what he's saying either. It's a huge issue on the original 3DS where it leaves marks on the top screen, it's widely known like cyrax83 said.
Maybe we're getting confused with scratches and just the smudges?

  • just bought a week ago for $239 o well

    • If you missed out on the majoras mask new 3ds xl !

    • That thing is going to look so stupid upside down in the charging dock.

    • +2

I ordered one a few minutes before it 'sold out'. Hopefully I got one (it's a surprise for the boyfriend.)

If I did get one, I have you to thank! Thank you so much, you've just made two people incredibly happy :)

      • You get the gf of the year award!

      • :)

    • how much was it going for?

  • +1

Sweet! I was going to wait for a deal on one of these. Perfect for monster hunter and majora's mask next month! :D

  • +1

Wasn't this a much better deal on the New 3DS XL?

  • +1

At first glance I read that as "CRACK2SCHOOL".

Nice price for the Super 3DS. But I've already got this bad boy pre-ordered :3

    http://www.technobuffalo.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/new-…

    • +1

+1 Because I also thought this post was about supporting taking crack2school.

  • Wow good price! I just pre-ordered the Majora's Mask version yesterday, but will probably sell it after some time.

I'm still waiting for the inevitable Fire Emblem Limited Edition when the new FE game gets released.

    • Oh man, if they release one here like the original OG 3DS Fire Emblem-themed LE with the dark blue colouring and awesome Falchion faceplate (U.S. only), I'm all over it.

  • +3

Not sure my so many people have defended Nintendo's choice of selling the adapter separately, saying that they are saving money by not paying for something they don't need, when the price of the console is the same as the previous console sold with the adapter! It is not cheaper!!! And also, im presuming many would have traded the old console in (which EB will only take with adapter), or sold on eBay, again one would presume with adapter…

    • +3

      Fanboys. It's pure greed

    • Pretty big assumption that you believe the production costs are identical, I wouldn't have a clue. Maybe they had to exclude the charger so they could include the C stick at the same price point.

Don't buy the charger, get a cable for a whole $1 and use an existing 5v charger, which I'd take a stab 98% of people would have.
      http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/New-A-Male-to-B-Highspeed-Mini-US…

      • The New 3DS boosts the processor power by… A negligable amount, but an amount all the same. In the Nintendo Direct they showed a (potentially dramatized) startup of Super Smash Brothers with a 3DSXL next to a N3DSXL and there was at least 4 seconds difference. I'd say that's where additional production costs would go, if anywhere.

      • The 3DS doesn't use a mini-USB slot though, its a proprietary cable.
