Order a Big Mac and Get a Small Fries + Small Soft Drink for Free (Jan 21 - March 3) @ McDonald's

3820

I've been using the Seven Sports App to watch live tennis. Great free app however they insert their own video ads. One of the video ads was Buy a Big Mac and receive a free small fries & free small soft drink. There is nothing in the ad that says how long this will last but my guess is that this deal will finish when the the Australian Open finishes (Feb 1). Only T&C is only applies after 10:30AM.

McDonald's doesn't have uniform pricing but according to the South Melbourne branch a Big Mac costs $5. Small fries are $1.95. A small drink is $2.35. Another location in Vic lists the Big Mac for $4.95, small Coke for $2.45, and a small fries for $1.

The deal isn't listed on their website but I'd assume there is signage in store. I took an out of focus video which you barely hear if you want proof an updated video. The screenshot is from the video. If I see it come on again, I'll see if I can record it properly. Updated Video using screen recorder.

Wow I didn't realise there was an Angus Mac. My fav macca's burger from now on !

  • Yeah deal posted too early! I went today!

  • $5.20 for a big mac at my local. NSW represent!

    • damn that's alot!

What does a mega mac go for

  • Cheers :)

  • Thanks op for both the deal and the tennis live stream app :)

  • Also you can get free large fries and drink with a Small mac

  • +4

Pretty sure the Big Mac has shrunk in size over the years. Should call it Lil Mac!!

    • +1

Meat's the same size at least. 1/10th of a pound.

    • +1

Perfect size for someone on a diet.

  • Just when I just lost 2kg using MyFitnessPal this comes out!

Whats the price of a Big Mac in Sydney? Haven't had Macca's in years.

    • "Haven't had Macca's in years.'

I don't this deal is good justification into breaking your streak!

    • $5 and some change, depending on the shop

    • They had free Big Macs last year, just for voting on a Youtube video.

I got a bit sick of them actually. I had 30 of them at least.

  • Not worth it arguing over a manager to get this deal.

  • I would demand the GP co-payment with it (just in case Canberra changes it mind)

  • There goes my new years resolution. Lasted 20 days, then seen this post and got an immediate craving. Rushed out and reread the updated post, and got worried…
Happy to report Kingsford maccas has the deal advertised. Big mac's $5.35
    Thnx OP…kinda

    • +1

so they gave you the deal?? Whaa?

    • -5

$5.35 for a BigMac?!?! What a ripoff! HJ sell junior whopper with a sundae for $5.50. Rather get a Vietnamese pork roll for $4

  • +5

Yep. The signs were up when I got there…but be warned, the deal sounds better than it tastes. But it's a good deal none the less

  • -2

Wouldn't want to pay any more than $5 for it anyway. Cheap post mix coke and fries cost only a few cents to make. And the burgers are tiny with mediocre taste. I don't know why people bother with mcdonalds, the taste and value is not there.

    • Because the burgers are (slightly) better at hungry jacks.

      • Not in my opinion. I keep trying the HJs and find the patties so greasy. Like you squeeze the pattie and see the oil/fat.

  • Well just back from Burwood Maccas in Westfield
Looked at the promo sign and it only said Big Mac..

Asked if I can get the deal with MegaMac.. braindead 16yo "uuhhh uhhhhhh let me check "
2 minutes later comes back from the manager and says it is only for Big Mac, nothing else..

So I got the big mac..

when for only an extra 80 cents I could have had Mega Mac :(
    AGHHH …

    • But this comes as a meal. :/

      • what do you mean ?

of course it's a meal, that's what the deal is..

        • You said mega mac is only 80 cents extra. Sounds like you are comparing the cost of a mega mac by itself versus a regular big mac with fries and a drink.

Considering mega mac is not part of this promotion, then no fries or drink would come with that.

        • +1

          @watwatwat:

According to Mr Maccas rep on page 1 this deal applies to MegaMac

          and the following burgers -

          Big Mac
          Mega Mac
          Angus Mac
          McOz
          Angus McOz

still waiting on any confirmation of it though..

        • +1

          @billyb67:

Yes, there isn't anything online, other than here, that supports the burger range. I hope it does though. The advertisement and pic on the McD site just show the Big M, and say "Big Mac".

        • +8

          @billyb67:

Just to clarify it only applies to the Big Mac

The other burgers aren't apart of the promo but they are new burgers that have now launched in stores

Hope this clears this up :)

          FAQ

          • Can the customer upgrade the small fries and small coke when they purchase a big mac?
          • Yes the customer can upgrade the size of the small fries and coke however it will be at an additional cost.

          • Can the customer request to "Grill" (Modify) any of the promotional products?

          • Yes, existing grill procedures do apply for all promotional products however additional costs may apply

          • Can the customer receive the small fries and small coke with any other promotional items other than the big mac?

          • No, the small fries and coke is only available with the big mac (Not the angus mac and Mega Mac)

          Hope this helps!

Also pro tip because the Mega mac isn't valid with the free fries & small coke and grills on promotional items are allowed You could order "1 Big mac and request 2x 10:1 beef patties added to it" that would then allow free fries and free coke, technically however stores might say no as it's then a mega mac, pricing for a peice of 10:1 meat is $0.90

          Edit: Fixed format

        • @Gomo:

"Can the customer upgrade the small fries and small coke when they purchase a big mac?

Yes the customer can upgrade the size of the small fries and coke however it will be at an additional cost."

Additional cost according to Manager at Swanston St Melbourne is $3.7.. (i.e. need to pay full price for anything other than small..) (small -> medium)

No consistency or they changed their policy since the other week when I was charged $0.60 extra when a manager (different) served me.. or he didn't have a clue. Methinks the -official- line at least at that store is small only since their is only the standard promotional banner and not the one with the upgrade options..

        • @Frantic: Yeah if it's $3.70 extra from small to large that sounds like they are putting it through not in the big mac offer deal, guess the store is dodgy :P

  • Thanks OP needed a quick cheap lunch and bought a Big Mac meal for $5.50, it's been a long time since I had a Big Mac too.

  • +4

Ordered a medium and got charged $8.65 even though the sign says $5.70 for medium. Told the checkout girl about the mistake and she said the promotion only applies to small. Then I told her about the sign and she finally worked it out and charged me $5.80 instead of the $5.70 on the sign. When I told her about the discrepancy, she shrugged and said she didn't know. I paid the extra 10 cents.

When I asked previously what would happen if a worker doesn't know, a rep on here proudly told me "Don't worry. All crew members will be well aware of the deal by the time it begins!".

    Fail.

    • Was she cute

      • +2

        They're always 17yo jailbait.

        • haha had to think twice when I ordered my soft serve today

  • Got this deal today: It's replaced the summer aka stunner deal

  • -3

tried this last night, got denied

    • +1

maybe because the offer starts TODAY?!

      • well when I say last night I mean 2am this morning

  • +1

Unable to get the MegaMac or AngusMac on this offer at Sydney, Wynyard station store. Spoke with the manager as well and they say it strictly applies to the "BigMac" only with no customisations. Even showed them this post of the inclusions but no luck. Anyone else having a similar issue?

  • +1

Went to Maccas at Forest Lake today, they didn't seem to have a clue about the deal..

    • Forest Lakes WA? I went yesterday and the poster was even behind the counter. Manager got annoyed after i asked for the refund as they charged me full price.

      • Nah, it was Forest Lake QLD.

      • +1

Yep still trying to charge full price in drive thru on 2 occasions for a large meal…

I msged Maccas on Facebook, their reply was it only applies the small meal… ummm that's not what your instore signage states!

Very well managed promotion this one!

  • Bourke St Maccas (famous for their $4.95 small big mac meals of yore) had signs up.. $5.45 however for a big mac :/

  • +2

Northbridge (WA), cashier didn't know about the promo but she quickly asked the Manager who did. Applies to Big Mac only, not Mega Mac or Angus Mac.

  • +1

Doesn't apply to Mega Mac, tried today in WA. However the cashier was kind enough to suggest buying a big mac meal and upgrading to double meat, was only a $1.50 extra.

  • +3

Just had one at the X. Not bad. Remember to tell the person serving u no ice to maximise your soft drink. Thanks Op.

    • +1

yeah mine today was seriously 80% full of ice…

    • +1

I don't understand people that do this. Ice brings it to an awesomely cool temperature and actually makes the drink healthier by watering it down.

      • Drink's already cool, unless you take 1/2 hour drinking it, no ice is the best way to maximise your KJ per $. If you really need a ice cold drink pick up a frozen coke for $1 as well.

      • +2

Yeah drink's already cold and ice displaces the drink so you get less to hydrate yourself. Serious waste of energy creating ice that's going to be thrown out. If you are concerned about the kJ then go for a sugar free drink.

      • Ice helps keep it carbonated. Yes if you drink it slowly it will eventually water it down, but if you get no ice and drink slowly, it will taste flat sooner.

  • +2

I managed to get a megamac with the small drink and fries for $6, not sure if that is a good deal or not

  • Lol I've had this twice over the last 2 days and already a bit sick of the Big Mac meal, but it does taste nice, less greasy than other burgers on the menu and offerings at other fast food chains. Might need to limit myself to once per week to maximise this deal.

  • Can we use the student edge card with this?

  • +3

Geez…I remember the days when $5 was a large Big Mac meal deal. Now it gets you just the burger

  • -3

Seen this advertise on the TV a lot, cant see why it really needed to be posted as a bargain (even though it is)

Anyway how much is a "lil" bigmac nowadays? great if you just want a few fries and a little drink :)

Oh $5 for a bigmac wtf!! I thought they were $3.95!

  • +1

Disappointing it only applies to the Big Mac, was keen to try one of the An(g)us Macs. Oh well!

  • +3

Got this at Forest Lakes in Perth and paid for the upgrade to large ($6.55 total).. they tried to charge the normal price ($10.00). Manager got pissed off when i pointed to the poster behind the counter that confirmed i was right.

  • +1

Just tried it - Hoddle Street, Abbotsford - Melbourne. $5.45 for the BM, but they wouldn't allow the average upgrade price. They were going to charge full standard upgrade price for Large Fries and Large Coke.

  • Footscray McDonald's has stopped this promotional pricing/offering today. Unsure why :( I bought 3 Big Macs yesterday..

  • Bought yesterday at Waitara in Sydney. They even had the upgrade (Med, Lrg) pricing on the sign.

  • For those who prefer a milkshake instead, you can upgrade the drink to milkshake by paying the difference. Now if only they would bring super size to Australia.

  • Thanks OP!
Just scored myself a Big Mac, small Fries, Small coke and 2 x Cheeseburgers for $8!

  • Big macs at garden city is $5.50.

  • +1
    • I'm more concerned about the image tags :P

      • lol wtf I don't know anything about that I swear.. :P

    • Wait.. What? So a medium meal is $14.20? LOOOOOOOL. No.

  • far out I went to maccas for the first time in a number of years upon hearing about this deal. forgot how great big macs were!

  • Kinda bummed that when they "ran out" of softdrink and offered me a frozen coke instead they went to the trouble of adding that on as an $$extra as well :/

    • Really? If anything a Froke should be cheaper.

When I was working, the meals were entered in a Burger/Chips combo and then the drink.

Therefore if a combo was $7 with a $2 soft drink, it would be $6 with a Froke (currently $1).

But I also have to question how they ran out of soft drink, that's a bit of a stretch.

      • If I asked for an "upgrade" to a frozen coke where the post mix is already large, they charged me $1.50 extra. So I ask for the drink+seperate froke

      • Hmm.. went back today, http://tinypic.com/r/2qnv38p/8
This is how they did it a few months back when they ran out and there was no bigmac promo..

It was the Swanston street branch (could be busiest in Melbourne) so I guess its possible..

In any event not too fussed.. hate to say it, I'm a regular there.. haha

        • Ok, looks like they've changed their POS system since I worked there. Back then, the coke would have shown up with it's own cost. Ie. Big Mac VM $3.30 and sml coke $2.

Because the drink like would progressively increase in price with size, the burger/chips line would decrease. So if you managed to trick someone to give you a large meal with a small coke, it would work out fairly cheap (can't remember the exact figures).

  • Chatswood Westfield Small $5.20, Medium $5.80. They are smart by offering you medium immediately. There's a big sign on the promo. Best order small and ask for upgrade.

  • Was at Collinswood Maccas the other night and it was funny, the sign said small was $5.30, medium was $8.something and large was $9.something???

Maybe you aren't supposed to be able to upsize…

    • Maybe it's just a franchisee trying to be stingy.

  • I went there it's only for big mc was told

  • +1

I always use the MyMaccas app on my phone. That way I select what I want and know how much I'm going to pay before I get to the drive thru. I noticed that if you select just a Big Mac, the options to upgrade are at the regular price, however if you select the Big Mac Deal instead, the upgrade options are reduced in price…

    Normal Big Mac Options: http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk133/danwgreenfield/E92A…
    Big Mac Deal Options: http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk133/danwgreenfield/01A9…
Big Mac Deal with Frozen Coke: http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk133/danwgreenfield/C826…

Using the app you can also upgrade a small meal to include just upgraded fries or just upgraded drink. I like its flexibility. Note that my prices are for my local store. Your local store's prices will appear differently.

  • +1

This has got to be the smallest small chips that I have ever had.

    • Even their large size isn't that large. I say bring supersized to Australia

  • Went to the Maccas in Mount Waverley VIC.

They wouldn't let me use this deal for Angus McOz or Mega Mac, saying it only applied to the Big Mac.

I was pretty peeved until i opened the bag and realised they gave me a large fries by mistake!

    • I don't get why you would be peeved? The ad clearly states Big Mac.

    • I was peeved at this portion of the bargain:

This promotion will include the following products:
Big Mac with free small fries and small Coke
      Mega Mac
      Angus Mac
      McOz
      Angus McOz
      Big Mac Sauce sachets

Other people in these comments weren't entirely happy - one even had an argument with the manager!

      • Good to hear you didn't take it to that ridiculous level as the other poster, but it's quite clear. The free small chips and drink are clearly only on the line with Big Mac.

  • Small meals only at Swanston street.. but I got a medium coke for some reason lol.. yeah its the little things that warms the heart

  • +1

No people, only big macs come with a free chips and drink

This promotion will include the following products:
Big Mac with free small fries and small Coke (this deal)
Mega Mac (New burger, limited time only)
Angus Mac (New burger, limited time only)
McOz (New burger, limited time only)
Angus McOz (New burger, limited time only)
Big Mac Sauce sachets (you know in the news)

Dunno if you'll understand me but the listing is what's going on in the whole promo.
E.g. Olympics, soccer themed burgers for a limited time only.

    • If the other burgers did come with a free chips and drink it'll say "these burgers attract a free chips and drink".
Hopefully someone else understands me and explains it better

      • +1

During this promotion we will be advertising the following limited time only items:

        • Mega Mac
        • Angus Mac
        • McOz
        • Angus McOz
        • Big Mac Sauce sachets
        • Big Mac with free small fries and small Coke

Changed order, makes it clearer :)

  • In the fine print it says you can replace fries with salad. Much better value and a little healthier.

    • Have you seen their garden salads.

When I was there, it was 2 slices of cucumber cut in half, 2 (or 4, can't remember) cherry tomatoes and some salad mix.

Healthier, definetlybut would not say better value.

      • Do you know how cheap potatoes are?

        • I use to work at McDonalds, so yes, do know how much a store paid for the fries.

You cannot say something that would take 30 seconds to prep at home (and cost less than 30c in produce to make) is better value than hot chips.

        • @tomsco:

Yes you can. Chips are just pure starch. Aside from being bad for you maccas fries taste a bit like warm salted cardboard. Give me the salad with dressing any day of the week!

Edit: and clearly you don't cut up salad often. Making a salad takes time.
