    • It's strange because the normal NAB Qantas Rewards card has a $65 annual fee… so I'm thinking it's a typo, since right next to that it says "NAB Qantas Rewards Premium Card"

  • Same here $65 annual fee, not sure if I want to go next…

  • +1

What kind of annual income/salary is required?

    • +1

65k. already mentioned above comments and in t&cs

  • i saw somewhere the new credit rating file law now mentioned about the cards that has been closed.

    • Can anyone confirm this?

It would make more sense if it is true.

It is just illogical that a "credit rating" is just purely based on how many applications you've made.

      • It is just one more illogical thing in your life.
One more one less who cares.
Do not worry about it too much.

      • I just got my latest VEDA report 1 week ago. Doesn't show anything about the cards I've closed. One was recently closed 2 months ago.

    • Veda is the shittiest credit file company, they didn't take into account cards that have been closed 5 years ago.

  • +1

    just got pre-approved.

lied (understated) about my current credit card limits & living expenses.
they only requested a latest electricity & phone bill as documents.

(coles mastercard rejected me like 2 weeks ago)

  • -1

HEY GUISE THIS HAS A 0% for 12 MONTHS BALANCE TRANSFER OFFER AS WELL. PUT IT UP IN TITLE / POST DESCRIPT

    • May or may not apply, as both links state different offers.
The 40k bonus points offer makes no mention of 12 months BT, while the 20k bonus points does.

      • true

        • +1

          EPIC POST, not so epic

  • I just signed up for the 20,000 points card a week ago and now this comes up, not cool

    • they'er diff offers. 20k points one had some 0% interest on pruchases and BT

      • But I only wanted the card for the bonus points so the other extras are useless to me

        • bad luck…. but to be honest it's no big loss anyway

  • I confirmed with nab the link for 40k points is http://www.nab.com.au/personal/campaigns/credit-card-affilia… I don't want BT just after points.
Also re the $65 annual fee that is showing on the first screen they said it's waived the first year, there is note under it. Now let see if I get approved

  • +2

Too easy. Approved on the spot.

50000 ANZ (Last Year) with this offer is sweet

    • Agreed. After cashing out the anz cc offer into $350 in wish gift cards, plus anz $100 savings account bonus, now another >$250 in more gift cards. The banks have given me more free money than some people make in a year.

      • $350 in wish gift cards

loving the free woolies groceries combined with half price specials

  • i have anz qantas rewards card, is it possible to have this nab card linked to my frequent flyer at the same time?

    • yes. they're just depositing points into ur qff account.

    • You could have every Qantas rewards credit card on the market linked to your frequent flyer account at the same time. No impact. Qantas doesn't care, they make money from the card providers.

  • +3

So basically get the card, make a purchase, get the points and cancel the card before the $250 fee applies. Move onto another card with a similar offer. Rinse and repeat.

  • +3

Just remember to cancel this card in 11 months 29 days :)

    !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!$250 ANNUAL FEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • +2

Um just cancel the card after you get the points.

      • +1

I keep using it because of amex being 1.5 points to $1.
Just make a few reminders in your calendar to cancel it before then and you will be fine.

  • +2

If you happen to hold 500 NAB shares and spend $7500 annually on this card your yearly fee will be zero.

    • is this documented anywhere

        • n1

        • +2

          500 x ~$33.95 …. ouch

        • +1

The post was"if you happen to hold", not a suggestion to go and buy 500 shares.
Even so I can think of far worse ways to invest $17000 odd in todays low interest environment.
The shares return around 8.5% grossed up to a SMSF in pension mode.
Sure beats 3% in a term deposit.

        • if the market crashes it wont be 8.5% more like -10%.. term deposit atleast is garanteed

        • If the market crashes and div at least maintained, yield will go UP not down.
Historically as far back as you wish to go, shares have killed term deposits as regard overall returns
Anybody in second tax bracket and above in term deposits now have a negative return after inflation.

  • just off from phone with veda. on our credit record history:
they said there is a section called "application" - this is when we apply for cc. doestn matter success or not, closed or not, once we apply we have record here.
there is another section called "active credit" or something like that.
this is where it list all our active credit limit (active cc i assumed).

so its possible to have 100 application but only 2 active.
also funny is the girl said it is not mandatory for credit providers to inform veda if someone open an account with them.

    • I'm looking at my latest VEDA report and my D&B credit report (the other agency in Aus) and there is no section with active credit. Just list my consumer credit enquiries and that's it, so this is possibly either a mistake from the lady you spoke to, or something only the banks can see themselves!

  • If i sign up, make a purchase, wait until bonus points granted then cancel the card, will my credit score be affected?

And how about I do this with other banks as well (ANZ offers 50,000 points with $250 annual fee).

    • u cant do this with other banks unless they have a current bonus points + no annual fee promotion. (so do a search on OzBargain to see if there are any current promotions)

as for affecting your credit score, it will show up as additional credit limit and application. that doesnt necessarily mean a bad thing though. just depends on the bank's criteria

    • That anz deal is expired I think?

  • +1

For anyone seriously looking for CC other than to churn, the Citibank Card with nil annual fee for life (normally $395 pa) and 1.5 Qan points per dollar uncapped deserves a look.
This NAB card only returns .5 points on the Visa side which is poor.

    • Minimum $75,000 annual income for Citibank card

    • which card is this?

        • it just says cant find your record..crap system..dont know how to work around it..

        • +1

You have to pay an annual fee to earn QFF pts, otherwise you only get Citibank reward points.

        • +3

          @Love a bargain:
It is actually one of the cheapest cards to get QFF points off a Visa Card.

Basically I get the Citibank Signature for free then add $49 for the QFF points onto it.

No other bank will be able to give you one of their top of the line cards + qff points with a 1 point per $1 conversion for Visa. Happy to get proved otherwise about a better card which is cheaper than $49 with the same features.

        • +2

          @lplau:

I was merely pointing out the fact that it isn't free to earn QFF points with this card as the statement "nil annual fee for life (normally $395 pa) and 1.5 Qan points per dollar uncapped" would appear to suggest. (Just noticed that the earn rate should be 1 point per dollar rather than "1.5 Qan points per dollar".)

Whether the annual fee is a good deal depends on individual circumstances e.g. spending on that card, importance of earning QFF points vs, say, velocity points.

Personally, I can't justify the $49 annual fee because I put most of my payments on cards with higher earn rates (e.g. 1.5 points per $ on AMEX) and don't mind earning some velocity points either.

        • agree… still a reasonable deal i think

        • agree again ..confusing citibank points.. apologies to all

        • @IanC:

1.5 citibank reward points or 1 QFF point per $

          http://www.citibank.com.au/aus/credit_cards/qantas_rewards.h…

Please note Qantas earn rate on Citibank's Signature and Citi Prestige Credit Cards will continue to be 1 Qantas Frequent Flyer point for every $1 spent.

        • @lplau:
Im still using the Citibank CitiBusiness Gold, 1.25 points for $1, directly converts to 1 QFF point too.

Unfortunately it has been discontinued for new applicants. I always get the annual fee waived as I have held the card for so long. I know this does not help anyone, but if you have this card, hold onto it, its brilliant and nothing compares.

  • +6

You can earn an additional 1,000 points as well by taking out the NAB Credit Card Cover insurance and holding it for 90 days.

Costs $0.79 for every $100 owing at the end of each statement period.

So for those looking to get the card, make one purchase to earn the 40,000 points, and then paying it off, these 1,000 extra points will cost nothing as your balance should be zero at the end of each statement period.

Obviously just means you'll need to hold the card for approx 5-6 months to ensure you have held the cover for the 90 days plus the additional time it takes NAB to transfer the 1,000 points to your QFF account.

    • url? t&c?

    • +1

Bother! I saw that but didn't go far enough into the T&C to work out that it was effectively free if you pay your balance off every month (which I do… anyone who doesn't pay their full balance off shouldn't really be getting a credit card, the interest isn't worth it).

Pity it was in the application stage. Wonder if I can pick this option again after having originally applied for the c.card without this feature.

    • Is that at the end of statement ie the closing balance? Or at the end of the interest free period?

  • I used this https://www.getcreditscore.com.au/ to check my credit score being worried about having applied for the ANZ card and a mortgage in the last year. But checked out fine with a score of "Excellent", the highest level.

    • +1

Thanks for the link. I am 630 (barely in the 'good' column) having $0 debt, savings and never missed any CC payment. Funny how they put me very close to the demographic who is likely to hit a scenario where I can't make payments within the next 12 months.

All these ozbargains deals are probably taking their toll.

      • I'm 'average', about 580, and I've no doubt my last year's ozbargaining activity (applied for 8 credit cards) has caused it.

Anybody know how long it takes for the multiple applications to lose their impact? Is it progressively lowered each year, until year 5, when no impact? Do they count entirely as badly over a 5 year period? Hoping I'm not shut out of deals until 2019!

        • the system is so stupid

        • The automatic score uses the whole 5 years, but when applying for say a mortgage through a broker, you can just explain each application and the banks are generally OK with it. That's what I had to do.

        • +3

I get an update on my Vedascore monthly and I can verify that your score changes on a month by month basis. I was bumped down to 'Average' after a few CC applications but the next month I was back up to 'Good' after no new activity. Just make sure you pay all your bills on time and your score will increase.

        • +1

@llamaesque: What I wanted to know. Cheers.

        • @llamaesque: I took out the Vedascore package (will only do it for a year - they're such a**holes) on the 19th February, and the score they gave me appears to be exactly 29 points higher than what I got for free on the 21st Jan. It therefore appears their sophisticated little 'algorithm' is just one point for every day you don't apply of credit, less any enquiries on file (however much they weight them, who knows).

So, it appears you'll skip about 30 points a month, so long as you hold off. I should therefore be nudging 'good' by the time I get to mid-April (when the Westpac Black offer expires).

Let's see if my hypothesis is right!

  • Congratulations. Your NAB Qantas Rewards Premium Card application has been approved. Please note your approved credit limit may be less than your requested credit limit.

  • Hi All,

What did you guys use the Qantas points for? Flights or Qantas shop??

What if I don't have anywhere to fly how else would you use the points??

    • Everybody has somewhere to fly!
The best value is flights. e.g. you get around 3x the value with flights than to just purchase items from Qantas Shop.

Best thing about QFF is that they never expire if you earn atleast 1 point per 18months. Unlike other FF which they have expiry dates on when the points were accrued.

      • So Virgin points expire?

        • +1

yes they can expire, but it's not clearly said

        • Thanks GD.
Actually clear in terms and C.
9.8 Expiry of Points due to Inactivity

9.8.1 If a Member’s Membership Account is inactive for 36 consecutive months the Member’s Points will expire. This will occur if the Member has not earned, redeemed, or transferred Points to or from their Membership Account for a period of 36 consecutive months and if the Member is not participating (as a Contributing Account or Beneficiary Account) in a Family Pool. Expiry of Points will not affect the Member’s Membership Account.

9.8.2 VRPL will use reasonable endeavours to provide the Member with written notification that their Membership Account has been inactive and that the Member’s Points will expire shortly, before the Points expire due to inactivity.

9.8.3 The Member’s Points will not expire if they earn, redeem or transfer any Points to or from their Membership Account at any time during the consecutive 36 month period, or if they are participating in a family pool.

9.8.4 Points cannot be re-credited once they have expired.

I'm just gonna point out that flying is not worth it if you're a cheap bastard. While it technically is more bang for buck to upgrade to business class etc., I am not one to actually pay extra (with points… which have monetary value) for the privilege.

I recently booked a trip overseas. If I booked it through jetstar/qantas with points, would have been about $550 in airport taxes and use 55000 points.

Instead of doing that, I paid $650 for the same trip via air asia and then cashed out the points for wish gift cards totalling $350.

So all in all, I got a return trip overseas for $300 (subtracting the cost of gift cards). If I had used points, I would have paid $550. Plus by using air asia, I actually got better quality choice of dates because if you try and use qantas to book flights with points, they have very few flights available (aka they reserve most seats for customers paying with cash).

        • +1

agree.. i will never check qantas when planning to buy overseas ticket…. air asia, scoot, jetstar

        • +1

u are comparing a budget carrier with a full service carrier? If you have a long overseas flight ( 10+) hours, it may be an issue flying the budget airlines

        • Nope. Jetstar is not a full service carrier.

        • correction flying Qantas is not worth it if you're flying to destinations Qantas can't compete with.

At the same time Budget vs Qantas… not compareable

    • I am saving some for a trip to Europe, though I used some for a fit bit on the qantas store as it was on special ;)

  • +1

Anyone confirm offer available to existing NAB CC holders? Cant see anything on the contrary in the T&Cs.

  • +2

Applied last night, not approved straight away, then got an email saying approved at 7am, ID check in branch at lunch and should have the cards next week :). Thanks OP

    • +1

      Same

  • I've been looking for a deal like this for ages, thanks for posting this OP!

  • Can anyone who got the 20,000 point NAB card late last year and applied for this one reply here once you get your points? (assuming you do)

  • how much is the minimum spending to get 10k points, anyone has confirmed this with nab staff? and then how long we should be expecting to get the points…

    • it's 40k points, no minimum spending and it's 2 months after the eligible purchase was made

  • +4

HEY FYI I JUST GOT DECLINED. THE REASONS FOR DECLINING MY APPLICATION WERE:

    • NO HISTORY WITH NAB
    • 6 RECENT APPLICATIONS FOR CREDIT
    • thats pretty lame

    • Looks like they are cracking down on people who apply for credit cards for points!

      • Nah

Congratulations. Your NAB Qantas Rewards Premium Card application has been approved.
