            • @whichtyler: Damn. I wished I'd waited for a reply.

I would suggest that people change to AUD for the purposes of this promotion…it's not obvious whether or not you have to pay in AUD.

  • This is an awesome deal!!!! Beside dealextreme, what are others' opinions of other retailers? Especially the gadgets one as their items are fairly similar to what dealextreme have, and include prices. So what are the reasons to stop with others?

  • hey Bross.. i just bought dingoo game player - cant wait to get it!
    anyone has dingoo ?

  • I have a question: for eg: it lists overstock.com, so I assume where it lists overstock.com as one of the merchants to buy from for the $20 cashback, that i could buy anything from that site then? because the terms and conditions only state:

-Purchases must be made on one of the Merchant's websites and paid for using PayPal.
-The following transactions are excluded from the Offer: PayPal Mobile transactions, gift certificate payments, gift card purchases and payments made when you are not logged into your PayPal account.

So if it lists the site, apart from the exclusions, then anything can be purchased?
    just wanting to make sure

  • Damn :p struggling to get to $50 on any of the sites.
Pity it isn't $50 across all the sites combined.

  • Any of the websites selling 1TB external hard drive?

  • Too bad it doesn't include Topman… :(

  • Sit back, relax and wait for your orders to be delivered + get $20 cash back into your PayPal account by 04-Dec-2009

    it's a long wait for that $20 refund :)

    • ……It'll be a bloody nervous wait for many who have made multiple orders!

Paypal's offers are often laced with more "clauses and exclusions" than the Geneva Convention….lets just hope this one is as good as it looks!

  • +1

Anyone feel like sharing their $50 combination? :p

I can;t see much worth buying myself, but interested to see what combo's everyone else has put together.

    • Yeah, i'm very interested in what everybody thinks is a good buy with this discount.

      e.g. http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.27552

      Cough dan

Ummm…the GF/wife may not be all that thrilled…

      • That was such a wrong review!!

  • The TV Tuners from DealExtreme look good. Anyone know if they would work in AUS?

    • +2

They will as long as you get one that's "DVB-T" compatible.

  • thanks, just got 3x shoes from Eastbay for AU$230 with the 30% discount + paypal credit.

    • All I see is the free shipping discount, which don't work for aussies. Where is this 30% discount??

      • the 30% expired yesterday, but like jayc posted, you can still get 20% discount by entering the code "LKS19T52"

  • While you guys are struggling I'm kicking expenditure ass on sasa.com.

    Oh dear.

  • my dad just drowned his mobile! i was wanting to pick up this cheapo ph from

my friend got something similar from thailand which works with 3 but not sure where
    tinydeal items come from.

All chinese phones are GSM. The chinese copies don't have any 3G phones. Network 3 is the name and I'm pretty sure that they will run both 3G/GSM.

The only problem is that is illegal to import these chinese phones because they do not meet the Australian standard A-Tick for phones. Most of these chinese copies do not meet any standards EVEN FOR CHINA. They have high electromagnetic radiation.

Also alot of the phones have cloned/fake IMEI numbers which means that it could be blocked on some networks.

You can still probably get away with ordering it except it's your own choice if you want to risk your health or the phone being blocked.

      • 3 told me the USIM they use will not work in a non-3G phone. You cannot use it in a 2G/GSM phone. So says their reps!

      • oops, just saw this after ordering a phone …

any ideas how I can test the amount of electro magnetic radiation that comes from the phone I ordered?

I'm figuring using it with a bluetooth and having the phone in a bag not so close to me might be okay but i still want to check :)

  • +2

    Too bad it doesn't include Topman… :(

    • Agreed. I got my hopes up when I saw Topshop because I thought it said Topman.

  • Something more pratical for those with a netbook without DVD:

    http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.26091

    • Item is temporarily sold out :)

    • Some of the drives at deal extreme are Refurbished and there are reports of some DOA, and cosmetic issues. Just be careful :-)

  • +1

For anyone interested you can still get 20% off Eastbay by entering coupon code LKS19T52 (expires on 2 Nov 2009) at the checkout. If you want a better discount (for maybe 30%) just search the net for Eastbay coupon codes.

    • Thanks for the code jayc. Just bought some Levis off Eastbay, well worth it with the cashback, even with USD25 for shipping.

  • This could be one of the best deals ever posted to OzBargain?
    :)

  • can you pay on DealExtreme in AUD??

    • +1

Paypal takes AUD out of your bank/credit card and converts it into USD to satisfy DX. Therefore if your purchase is < USD$50 but converts to be >= AUD$50, you are still eligible.

  • So can you get cashback 5 times from 1 seller (using 5 different transactions)? E.g. If i buy a pair of shoes from eastbay in 1 transaction over $50 pay with paypal and conclude transaction, and then buy another pair over $50 to get another cash back.

    • +1

      Yes.

      • thank u

  • so when does this cashback offer expire?

  • Um.. how can we be sure to get our cash back

    • Seems we can't.

Eligibility to this promotion will be determined by PayPal in its sole discretion.

Seems that you just have to make an eligible purchase, and PayPal will automagically deposit the $20 to you by December 04, 2009.

PayPal reserves the right to cancel, suspend or modify part or the Offer at any time without notice, for any reason in its sole discretion. The Offer cannot be resold or transferred. No cash alternatives or prizes will be substituted.

The only thing stopping them from screwing us over is a PR nightmare (and perhaps some legal barb-wire).

  • Overstock shipping rates are a joke.

    • its free on the electronic websites. but yeh, the uk stores are expensive

  • But we probably will right?

  • any of the websites selling the sandisk cruzer contour 32GB ?
    cheers

      • +1

becareful of legit sd cards on dx/tinydeal/focalprice etc. most are fake, and the real ones are similar priced to sd cards sold here

  • What about M2 cards?

  • Sounds Great!

  • +1

where did the poster find this deal?

    • +2

I was wondering this too…..This deal has been posted on dozens of different forums across the net…I hope paypal have budgeted for the response and don't just pull the pin if the response becomes overwhelming (they have already made a provision for this in their terms and conditions).

I wondering where this deal was first promoted? There is no link to it from any of the PayPal home pages, including www.paypal-offers.com.au .

It is also quite unusual to run this sort of promotion without a promo-code. This means Oz customers who buy from any of these stores (via paypal), and whom hadn't heard of this offer, will mysteriously receive a $20 rebate in the first week of Dec. This is quite an unusual process…..if not unprecedented!

      • Anybody contacted Paypal to confirm this offer?

    • There was a link on paypal-offers yesterday…but I'm damned if I can find it now. The offer's still at:

      http://www.paypal-offers.com.au/shopoverseas/#

  • Hmm… you bring a good point.

  • I only need to buy a FM transmit MP3 player for my car for about $18 in DealExtreme, any want to pool in Sydney?

  • Hi nats :)

can you tell us, where did you hear about the offer?

    • -2

I dont kiss and tell :) but looks like the promo is now in full swing after late Friday night, appearing on many News Ltd websites and others.

  • I predict this will be on track to be #1 ozbargain post of all time.

  • +1

The offer links to an article which doesn't mention Paypal at all.

Checking with Paypal if I need to do anything else now, to receive the cash back … aka confirming that Paypal actually intended this to be seen by people :)

    • +1

confirming that Paypal actually intended this to be seen by people :)

More importantly, confirming that PayPal will honour this promotion!

    • any updates on this matter?

      • Nope. I emailed them last night, but that was a Friday night.

Monday would be the earliest but I don't know how long it will take them to get to my email.

If someone could try calling them too, it'd be interesting to see what the different Paypal reps say about the offer.

  • after a 8G Memory Stick PRO DUO (Sandisk/Sony), no sure weather they are real genuine or just "genuine"

  • How does one Subscribe to the mailing list for Paypal Offers, I didnt receive this promo at all in my Inbox.

theres nowhere on the paypal offers page to subscribe either

  • ordered some stuff from DX, and found the paypal exchange ratio is 90c rather than 93c.
But anyhow, hope the 20 bucks can be refund sooner and I will use it on EBay.

  • does this mean I have to purchase something that converts to at least AUD50 at time of purchase, ie. the amount of AUD that is shown on the confirmation page? i dont have to worry bout the exchange rate later on, do i?

    • I don't think anyone knows for sure. As the offer says you must spend 50 AUD, I'm paying in AUD rather than the currency of the site.

  • +2

Question , Do we even know whether this offer actually works?

  • +2

    Hey guys.
I just rang Paypal Australia, and the guy there could not confirm this offer was valid anymore.
    Just thought to warn people…
It could have expired by now?

    • Great work, thanks for ringing them.

what did you ask and what did he say exactly?

As long as its not a hoax, that's the main thing i dont wnat to hear. otherwise, the conditions listed are pretty clear cut/reassuring.

      • +1

Well, as I said, he could not confirm that it was valid.
He stated that the only offical offers from Paypal Australia would be from the paypal.com.au website.

I thought he was quite unhelpful, in truth.

I did a whois, and it does imply that website is owned by Paypal Australia.

But there is nothing to guarantee that I would get my money. Don't want to spend $50 on stuff expecting to get it for $30, but then not get the money back…
I am skeptical, and not reassured that I would get this moneyback.

        • +2

My concern is, unless the PayPal deal is sent to you via your registered PayPal address then you risk being ineligible.

This was certainly the case with this $10 PayPal voucher deal here:

          http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/17284

Unlike the current $20 deal, the $10 voucher was to be issued immediately after purchase, thus users found out straight away if they were eligible, by which time it was too late anyway!

That all said, I'll probably end up taking a punt and buy something from Deal-Extreme! It the $20 doesn't turn up, so be it!

          • @ash2000: I think the previous deal's terms mentioned that it is for selected paypal users, whereas for this one, it says :
            * This offer is open to Australian PayPal customers who: 1) have an AU PayPal account in good standing; 2) complete a qualifying purchase from one of the qualifying Merchant's websites during the Promotion Period. Eligibility to this promotion will be determined by PayPal in its sole discretion.
So i think we don't have to receive email in order to be eligible.

            • +1

@shiba: The other thing that is unusual is that the retailers themselves aren't promoting it on their web pages.

It is very easy (and very common) to detect an AU IP's, and trigger a pop-up targeted ad promoting the $20 off, but such a thing is nowhere to be seen.

Anyway, lets hope it's unusual, but genuine!!!

              • @ash2000: yea. let's pray :)
i made two purchases on sasa expecting to get $40 back. i will be sad if it doesnt!

                • @shiba: Well - I have thought it through a few times and the sticking point is this sentence.

                  • Eligibility to this promotion will be determined by PayPal in its sole discretion.

This is the make/break sentence, and I for one, will believe that it is not open to one and all. This is the get out clause for paypal. I cannot imagine how anyone could fund this 40% rebate. I can't believe the retailer could support this, nor would paypal charge so much that it could afford to subsidise purchases to such a degree.

It's a great deal for anyone who qualifies, but I'm really thinking that this offer is definitely not open to everyone.

                  • @Zippy7: I thought qualifications are clearly listed. As for the cashback amount its $100 in total, some AU Paypal account holders got a 10% discount incentive to open an eBay account and purchase to get max. $100 discount on the item (paid by PayPal), I tend to think it has alot to do with our good economic standing.

So I say read the terms and conditions carefully, and count your lucky stars, we live in a great country :)

  • A conspiracy theory in the making….. To Be Continued

  • I believe this promotion is legit, $20 Off is actually not a big deal for Paypal, it will be really surprising if they do not honor this promotion.

  • Just ordered $50US from Deal Extreme… really hoping that I get the $20 back, but I am also worried that it might not be valid. I got no confirmation that it would happen… no special ebay links for Deal Extreme… nothing. Ill just have to hope for the best!

  • +1

Just order 2 Wii MotionPlus http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.26391 at US$25ea works out to be $55ish so $35 for 2 MotionPlus after $20 back.. not too bad :D

  • Wow,
Let's see of we can get some confirmation of this deal

  • I always thought all paypal pages were "https". Noticed that this was just "http"
Whois definately says it's run by paypal Australia though

  • A minority of these websites are scamming you by charging higher prices for Australian customers e.g Overstock.com charging $149 USD for a Cannon A480 on their international website, and $108 USD for it on their American website. bangcd.com is doing it aswell. In both cases you are unable to order at the US price if you are an Australian.

    • +3

Ok, so a few stores charge higher prices. But the majority are not doing that. Don't think it justifies a negative when only one or two stores are charging higher prices (they probably have a reason for it as well).

      • My point is that Paypal should not be supporting websites that have much higher prices for Australian customers as opposed to American, in Australia it is illegal under the trade practices act to have dual pricing schemes. Someone seems to have deleted my comment about this so I will say again, as a warning to others, that the sites I know of charging much higher prices for Australians than Americans are overstock.com and cdbang.com

        • +1

Thanks for the warning, but why give a negative vote since there are other good vendors such as DX.. unless it is confirmed that paypal will not honor this deal..

        • Overstock has increased pricing for international customers for yonks now. Its nothing to do with the Paypal-Offers bargain. In the end its upto CONSUMERS and not PAYPAL to determin whether they should buy from a business or not. Don't like overstock dont BUY from them.

Once again, I dont think its nice to tarnish a good bargain as a result of 2 retailers.

        • +1 troll…

    • +3

mate u r the only one who has a negative vote for this deal. must make u feel special. lol

      • +4

Nobody has got this deal yet………..
The reply from paypal below is less than reassuring…….
It's not worth a neg, but until there's something a bit more substantial from paypal, I'm pretty neutral about this.

I might be mildly paranoid……but I'm a big believer in "if it sounds too good to be true….etc etc"
I'm certainly not gonna go out of my way to spend 50 bucks to save 20…..that still makes me 30 down on the day, with a houseful of crap that I didn't need. I am convinced there are some on here that would buy a dog turd if it came with free shipping…….

  • I'm having trouble making my order total $50 from DX
What have you guys bought in the past that you're really happy with? If you guys can make suggestions that'll be great, thanks!
