    is it any good?

You know you only need a router with NBN as the modem is part of the NBN hardware supplied upon installation.

    • +3

Indeed; we're going to see a lot more of this "NBN-ready" nonsense.

Agreed, never fall into their NBN trap,I post it and I only need a new modem router for less than 100 bucks, it's cheaper than Netgear N300 ones.So saved $30 for beers.

  • I wonder when my area will get nbn

postage $8.03 to 3168, make it $87.98 delivered.
not bad for wireless AC modem.

Hate they use NBN-ready as a marketing strategy…..

Btw with FTTN roll out it will be VDSL………

    • +3

No matter what they say, nothing will ever match "HD-ready" antennas that we saw a few years ago.

      • +5

Ahh but did they have Anti Virus capabilities like the BigW HDMI cables did?

        • holy shit, i forgot all about those -________________________-"

        • +5

You joke about this but since I bought those hdmi cables, I have yet to get a cold or the flu…

  • really fun to see NBN modem, as you don't really need one. It is saying ADSL2+ modem indeed.

  • I think the dual band AC wifi bit makes it a bargain.

  • Can you install custom firmware on this thing. And just making sure, it had gigabit lan right?

No results on Whirlpool about this modem, and I am curious about the chipset. But I did get a hit from a Thai webpage and translated with Google it seems to be Broadcom so thinking about biting.

  • Would this make a decent alternative to an adsl2 modem (wirelessG) + airport express (wireless N)
Wanna be able to connect hdds to it and use it as a NAS too. DLNA server would be great but got an rpi for that
I would be using with a macbook, ipad, android phones, LG smart tv

The airport gives me a faster network and NAS, but without a modem it kinda just seems like a waste of space when something like this might do everything

  • Just had a look around.

Even Warcom is only $85 for it and seem to be in stock for you to pick it up if you don't like the possibly long wait from cotd.

Seems like a pretty cheap modem/router… reminds me of TP-Link of old.

    http://www.warcom.com.au/products/59261_tenda-d1201-wireless…

    • Out of stock at Warcom.

      • That was quick lol.

    • I'd be inclined to stick with the TP Link W8980 for only marginally more which has some history of stability and performance.
The benefit of this Tenda is the Broadcom Modem chip, which tend to be better on long/noisy lines if I remember correctly.

      • No ac. I wouldnt get this either but the 8980 and this are different Beasts.

        • Ah, good point.

  • It's actually not all that bad, it seems. According to this page, it has a dual-core broadcom chipset, which are known to be good for ADSL modems.

  • Whats its AC like on the 5gz? Reading that 5ghz signal is weaker deeming signal strength on AC poorer than N on 2.4ghz especially though obstacles.

    • First ac router from N300, looking forward the beam-forming,not sure if this one has.
But finally iphone 5s could talk with Router in ac.

      • Def not.. with beam-foaming ur looking at $200+ device. But for a normal home setup unless u have 50+ devices I dont think it will make much difference with or with out. I bought the TP-Link d5 for $105 and im happy with that.

        • My understanding is 802.11ac is the standard that all these features are standard. Pretty much only a couple of hardware provider and same core. If I got extra money, I will tear one apart to check.

  • Stating that warranty is through the manufacturer sounds a bit suspect, very CotD.
