AAPT ADSL2+ & Home Phone Bundle $89.95 (Unlimited Download from 8pm to 8am!)

33

Finally we have UNLIMITED download ADSL2+ plan! It has to be bundled with home phone in 24 months contract. $0 setup cost w/ free 1-port modem. Total monthly cost $89.95, you get 5GB peak download (8am-8pm), unlimited download off-peak and $50 worth of calls on the home phone. The $50 home phone credit is particularly useful and save the hassle of getting VOIP service from other company. Upload is NOT counted.

One thing has to be noted in the T&C: "Speed reduced off and on peak if peak usage exceeds 5GB". It means BOTH peak + off-peak speed shaped once your peak usage reaches limit.

If you are after more during peak hours, they have 10GB ($99.95) or 20GB ($109.95) options:

They also have another unlimited download plan from 2am-8am:
http://aapt.com.au/services/personal-small-business/personal…
But I would prefer paying a bit more a month for unlimited download from 8pm as I go to bed 12am every night! Also TPG has cheaper plan for 2am-8am download, see my other post: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/18206.

I think it is a real deal. Someone claims a whopping 850GB download in a month!

If you have Foxtel, it is useful with this plan to download movie from Foxtel website to PC:

good plans but there are few things stop me. 1) We don't wanna get the bundled homephone. 2)very long contact with high cancellation fee. 3) the offpeak will be capped once you exceed the peak quota.

  • 5gb peak isn't much! i spose if you work late then it wouldn't really matter. But yeah, seems an ok deal. Also seriously consider how much you can actually download in a month. Those TPG 50 + 50 GB data plans are very good. I might be able to get 4gb one day, but i wouldn't be able to sustain that for a whole month.

EDIT: Neg from me, 5gb peak is nothing + you get capped offpeak when you go over in peak. Also if you can use more than 50GB a month off peak (every month), then i congratulate you.

  • Nice, does anyone know of a coverage tool for AAPT. I can't seem to find one on their site, I don't want to sit on the phone to try and find out if I can avoid it.

  • Sounds like what exetel have been doing for years - small peak limit + unlimited downloads overnight. The problem is everyone leeches overnight and speeds degrade, packets are dropped etc etc.

If you regularly use more than what other ISPs can offer you at a similar price point (with a download limit), then you seriously need to get a life.

    • I am still stuck with TPG so I could not churn to AAPT but I think AAPT is serious to challenge other ISPs this time and would be likely provide very good speed during off-peak. I am saying so because AAPT has purchased Powertel for multi-million dollars so to create a company like Telstra and Optus, i.e. they all have their own infrastructure and optical fibres.

By the way, is there any current AAPT users here? Hope we can get an idea from them.

    Crap lol

    • why negative?

      • Because it isn't a bargain…Well my definition…

=] I could explain further if you like?

        • Please do ….

          • @pw2002au: Because you only get 5 GIG peak, with max being 20gig.

Even with the unlimited off peaks, if you go over peak, you are on dialup, and 20 gig is not enough for me for the other 12 hours

TPG 50$ for 50 gig + 50 gig peak and off peak allows me to download what i need, and never be on dialup

Maybe if they were cheeper, I might consider AAPT, until then TPG win hands down.

AND Rumbarr, Telstra are the worst value for money EVER!!

150$ for 60 gig downloads with ADSL2+ speeds, worst ever. I hope helstra burn, or change there plan.

Anyywayy, im happy with my 50$ going to tpg each month.

        • Yeah, it's not like it's Telstra level of a bargain …

        • i love you!

  • I'm not sure whether I should be getting the AAPT (20GB/unlimited) plan for $49.95 or the TPG (50GB/50GB) plan.

    • +1

      20gb/unlimited is $109.95….

I'd personally go with TPG, but thats your choice

    • Thanks "hellwolf" for your reply. You are the first one to look into the details of the deal before comment on it. I am saying so because when you really compare it side by side with TPG plan, it is hard to decide. I think this is a bargain because when you look at TPG $50 plan, you have to get a phone line with Telstra which is $27.95 and it is already $78 here. Don't forget AAPT give you $50 worth of call credit! You might not be able to use up all $50 credit but you should save another $10 or so a month. This can replace any VOIP service (if you are using any) too. Landline call quality is always the best and most stable when compare with VOIP. To be honest TPG off peak 50GB is basically useless because most people wont stay up until 2am or 3am! AAPT 5GB is like a very small amount of limit but don't forget it turns to off-peak from 8pm. Let's say if you work in the daytime, you barely use internet at home during the day it means 5GB is more than enough. Counting that TPG off peak start from 2am, we cannot compare TPG 50GB peak and AAPT 5GB peak directly. The 6 hours from 8pm to 2am (when TPG off peak starts), if you can download 1.5GB / day (or 45GB / 30 days), TPG and AAPT is of same value. If you do >1.5GB in that 6 hours, this AAPT plan beats TPG. >1.5GB for 6 hours, it is so easy to reach provided that so many HD video on youtube (maybe all full HD soon). Not to mention, direct download from Megaupload / Rapidshare / P2P BT etc. The trend is more and more bandwidth hunger items are up on internet, thus we need UNLIMITED download! This plan is the best for serious downloader (>200GB/m) no doubt but it is also good to normal user when you consider all costs.

  • Daylight Savings in Sydney timezone means Off Peak Unlimited in Brisbane is 7pm- 7am. Hope this helps the users who come home from work around 7pm and leaves home for work around 7am.

TPG is so much better, 109$ for 20 gig, pleaseeeeeeeeeeeee

    50$ = 50 gig + 50 gig ftw

    • +1

Sorry, but the way you compare them there - you have completely excluded the 'unlimited' period from 8-8. The 50+50 makes sense because that's ALL you get from TPG, but the 20gb for $109 is a false statement. It's 20GB + X (being how much you would download 12 hours a day x 30 days in a month).

That's cool though, it's your opinion. I just don't think it's good to confuse others!

      • -1

How much do you honestly think you can download off peak in a month? Yeh X is unlimited, but can you actually get over 50GB every month?

  • Good point.
I am on TPG 150 (70+80). for same price (bundle) with aapt, I will need to download something like 5G a night (unlimited 8-8). If I can download more than 5G a night then the various comparisons here would be meaningful. I believe my connection can download around 1G per hour.

  • Some users are downlaoding 700+GB of data during off-peak period :)

I really like the off-peak time of 8pm-8am rather than TPG's much smaller window or Exetel's 10 hours starting @ 2am.

Yeah, you don't get much peak time but if your working during those times, how are you using internet?

Biggest problem/cost would be having to buy 1TB HDD every 2nd month for all the content your downloading ;)

  • +2

On balance I think TPG's plan is more balanced and offers better overall "usable" value than this AAPT deal.

100gb a month should be enough for most leechers and youtube watchers. come on where are you going to find the time to go through more than that?

All you can do is go download a ton of HD content that burns through masses of bandwidth for a few min of video.

If this AAPT plan included 15gb-20gb of peak usage…then it'd be compelling. But to a heavy internet user…5gb….you'd go through that in 2-4 days. Not all internet usage can be diverted offline.

e.g if you wanted had to stream video and didn't have the option of scheduling offpeak downloads through a download manager program.

    • The LiveNet 20 plan is $49.95 and includes 20GB peak with unlimited offpeak for 2AM to 8AM. That's the one I'm considering atm.
