You're absolutely right but it is worth reminding us who have the subscription that a new game is out. You only have a 2 week window to download it. If you do it's attached to your account for as long as you subscribe (XBox One) or as long as you have the account (XBox 360).
The argument of course is that this a bonus freebie you get when you get Gold membership, which gives you access to play online. That way they can take it away any time and you can't complain if you subscribed. Typical of large corporations.
All that said the "free" games have been worth the price of subscription so far.

@infinite: Not to speak for someone I dont know, But i'm pretty sure they used the term "new" as in "new to the free GWG lineup" not "here is a game that was released a month ago"
The subscription fee is for online play, And the games are given for free as a bonus/Thank you.
Easiest way to come to this conclusion is that Xbox live Gold has been around since 2002 and the "Games With Gold" program didnt start till over a decade later in July 2013.
Not to mention that the monetary value of the games given to people via the "Games with Gold" program greatly outweighs the cost of the xbox live gold subscription cost.
Multiplayer is something that's free though, that Micro$oft and $ony charge console players for, then profit even more again by selling advertising space to 3rd parties that the end-user is forced to sit through. The console players then pay for that free service & get suckered into thinking these years-old games are "free".

Dedicated servers are not free to program, run, or maintain. The game is only 3 years old, there would still be a lot of people who haven't played it yet, and its not like the 360s capabilities have changed in that time.
As far as I can recall multiplayer on the xbox live platform has always been a paid service (short of free multiplayer weekend promotions), so I don't quite see where you are getting the illusion that it is free.
Sony has free multiplayer on PS3 but it is payed for on PS4.

Users purchase it for not buying this game.. but playing other awesome on-line gaming like COD, battlefield. This is an added benefit free of cost.
Its like saying this windows application is free… Well wait.. you need to purchase windows licence for that….
I've changed the title from 'free' to $0, because I understand your point. The big difference between this and PS+ (and also XB1) is that the game is a $0 purchase, not a long term rental attached to the life of the paid subscription. The purchase lives on after the gold subscription expires.

Honestly I've been pretty disappointed by the games Microsoft have been offering recently. I mean the small indie game for the xbone was a few minutes of fun but definitely not something that would keep me interested for a month.
Xbox One is fairly new and doesn't have the back catelogue of the 360. They give out 12-24 free games a year so you'll get some indie games (or mostly indie games it seems as developers probably don't want their 1 year old game to be free).
Been some great games on the freebies though like Gaucamele..
I agree that the Xbox one's libary is fairly small but sony seem to be able to put some great ps4 games in their instant game collection (hello transistor). And PS Plus is cheaper to boot.

Pretty sure it's a problem with payment services. Even though the game is free it still needs to go through the process.
is it just me or is the xbox website just plain horrible? i can navigate the website, but cannot purchase the game as it just crashes.
Its pretty bad. I don't know of you are trying to buy via browser or the Xbox dashboard though.
