Was looking for something to use the free shipping code with as it expires on Wednesday. Came across this drill - not the strongest but should be decent for the price with 2 year warranty. Can get similar priced Ozito from Bunnings so hoping slightly better build quality.

I had $30 credit at COTD so for under $20 it was a no brainer!

  • I don't think it's a good idea to buy something you don't really need just to make use of a coupon that's about to expire

Me neither but I dont have a hammer drill at home - now i wont have to annoy my mates when i want to put a hole in concrete or brick! Only cost me $20 so pretty happy with it really.

  • Sounds too cheap for a good hammer drill. Anyone has one to share your experience?

    • I thought so too. Had a poke around the web amd couldnt find too much but from what i can gather, this model on amazon uk replaced it.

So i think its and outdated model but price and reviews are Good enough for me to give it a go

It's fine for small masonry bits up to 8mm …anything bigger and I break out my Hilti… Great to have in your tool collection.

    Chuck Type: 13mm single sleeve,

Thats nice. Cheap drills usually have a horrible chuck where you twist the two parts in opposite directions.

Every man needs a cordless drill, and a corded hammer-drill for the bigger jobs, at least if your house has brick or concrete.

  • If you don't need the hammer function, i.e. you only drill through wood, metal and/or plastic, Jaycar have a 500W drill for only $19.95! That's the normal price, not on special, which is why I haven't posted it before.

    http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=TD2493

It has a 10mm keyless chuck, variable speed, has a forward/reverse switch, and is mains powered.

This isn't the sort of thing that Jaycar normally sell, so I'm guessing a company went bust and Jaycar bought up their stock. Jaycar have done that before (anyone remember Aura Interactors? Jaycar bought them for less than $2 each and sold them for $60).

    • Ummm this makes no sense… The major points of this post are cheap, decent quality, name brand hammer drill. You can get a cheap drill at any bunnings or masters sale!

I was recently in Bunnings, looking for a drill, and theirs don't go as cheap as $20 - even their own "Ozito" brand starts at $39.

A lot of people don't care for brand-name equipment, they are simply after cheap. A lot of people would pick up a drill only a couple of times a year, and only drill a small number of holes. For such people, the over-riding concern is price. That is why I am offering an alternative.

  • I agree with most of everything you say, but we are talking about HAMMER drills mate - im the first to admit $49.99 is not really a good proce for a corded drill to put up shelves into drywall once a year! For that, go the ozito ur talking bout at bunnings when on sale for $29. It will come with 3 year warranty. If you buy the jaycar one, would not surprise me if it burnt out on the first use, get a refund coz they dont stock it anymore, then end up at bunnings anyway! Or you go to use it a second time in 18 months itime and the warranty is up…
