TP-Link Archer D9 $199 @Wireless1, Free Shipping + Bonus IP Camera Via Redemption (TP-Link NC200)

350

Purchased this a week or two ago after Wireless1 provided a coupon code reducing the Archer D9 to $199. Now it's the same price again, but no discount code required. Can't tell if it's a limited time special or not. If anyone missed out last time you've got your second chance now.

Highly regarded modem router. Great chipset especially for long line lengths, high bandwidth dual channel wireless-ac. If you're needing an upgrade, this is the way to go.

Also, there's a bonus camera available via redemption at the moment. I'd prefer a usb adapter, but free is still free! (That's the ozbargain way, right?)

Don't need the modem, any chance of a deal on the C9 rep?

any chance of a deal on the C9 rep?

How do you know they're a Rep ?

      • I don't think he is, but the reps have frequented posts not made by them in the past..

        • Well he did say he purchased it from them.

EDIT: Oh, misunderstood what you meant. Sorry.

        • +3

yeah, keep asking. That's how I got the deal on the D9 last time. It was an Archer D7 deal and I posted that I was really interested in a D9. Not long after the rep posted with a coupon for the D9.

          Ask and you shall receive…

  • Would be all over this if they're giving the T8E wireless adapter to go along with the D9, like they did back in Dec 2014

  • I've been in contact with TP-Link technical support since I got mine from the last deal. If you ever need to connect to your own external IP address from within your local network, this won't do it. I've been very happy with the product otherwise though.

The bonus camera can work as a wireless extender by the way so it's definitely worth signing up for.

    • Just wondering what your use-case for this is? I assume traffic sent to your external IP would be treated the same as external traffic and the same rules would apply, ie. you'd have to forward the relevant ports to your internal IP address just as if you were connecting from outside the network.

      • That was my assumption as well but that's not how the Archer D9 handles it.

I was trying to host game servers. Here's an album I've been storing all my screenshots in. I realise for most games I can just get others to connect through my external IP address and for myself, just connect through my local IP address but this doesn't work for games like L4D2.

        • OK, I can see that there's the potential for issues if at the layer 2 level the data looks internal but at the layer 3 level it's assumed to be external. I don't have experience with game servers but with web servers, I use domain names (fake, real or dynamic depending on the situation) and manipulating the hosts files on my internal PCs to resolve these names to the local IP addresses, but they may not be appropriate in your situation.

You're missing NAT loopback. I don't think there's anything you can do. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Network_address_translation#NAT…

If there's DD-WRT support for your router that'd work.

I have been waiting for this. Thank the bargain gods. and the OP, of course.

    • happy to help! enjoy it :)

    Hopefully a Rep sees this

Any chance of a deal on the ASUS DSL-AC68U ?

    • The features looks quite similar, any reason to go for the Asus?

I am thinking to replace my aging Billion 7800n with something new. I can only get like 6Mbyte/sec in somewhere less than 10 meters away, I am wondering a D7/D9 will able to increase the wifi speed?

      • Ditto. I have the billion 7800nl but one of my cats broke an antennae. I can't stream anything over WiFi anymore, it just buffers on audio and video. And once torrents start its game over on the wifi speed.

        • You can buy new antenna at a very reasonable price from ebay.

        • @humbala:

Its the actual gold connector that's come loose. If I twist off the antennae from the connection, the gold bit falls into the inside if the modem.

  • Certainly interested in a good deal for the asus DSL-AC68U also…

I got this modem about a month ago when my 7800N died. Best thing I ever did. The increased range in WiFi around my house is amazing. I removed a repeater I had with the 7800N and I'm getting better speeds at the other end of the house.

Wifi AC speeds to my Dell XPS is fantastic, up over 70MB/sec

The loss of a NAT Loopback is a shame but not a dealbreaker.

In short, this is a GREAT deal, jump on now if you are in the market for a new Modem router.

Edit - Forgot to say my sync speed has also improved, but only marginally.

    • You are getting 70MB/sec over WIFI? Does your XPS have built in AC WIFI adapter? Or are you achieving this with N adapter?

  • Considering upgrading my router but just wondering whether the price difference between the D7 and D9 is justified. What are the biggest differences between the D9 and the D7 to warrant the extra cash?

    • +2

D7 CPU is 1-core 333Mhz, D9 is dual-core 1Ghz. D7 has QCA (Qualcomm Atheros) wireless, D9 has Broadcom wireless. Both have Broadcom ADSL chipsets. The D9 apparently has better 2.4Ghz wireless range due to better antennas. In saying all that, the D7 is still a solid unit that would meet most peoples needs. Have a read on Whirlpool if you want to know more.

      • +1

Thanks Dudeface! Your summary is all I needed, sometimes the people on whirlpool crap on and base alot of stuff regarding their own setups and opinions. Sounds like the D7 would definitely suit my needs, just hoping for another deal with the D7 and the T4U wireless adapter.

Has the deal ended? Back up to $259 via the link

Trying to purchase but it's coming up full price?

  • This seems quite pricey for a modem router that doesn't include native VoIP, am I missing something?

    • I need one with VoIP too, but looking into an ATA for use with this instead as going for a VoIP only router limits the list you can choose from by a fair bit..

  • Quick question

I have a NETGEAR DG834G 10 years old and it still does the job

Any benefits upgrading to this like speed?

    • It depends on your internet and use, really… I don't know that particular modem/router but if it's 10 years old it might still be 'G'only whilst this one is AC, so yeah, it will be a lot faster within your network. Whether or not that will translate to faster internet speeds is hard to say without knowing what plan you're on etc.

    • I'm not an expert but seeing how your one doesn't even support 802.11n, which most devices nowadays support, you should see a difference.

    • Depends entirely on what the connected devices support. AC is a relatively new standard and only recently-released devices support it.

Also, are you using the modem to access data from other devices connected to it or just the Internet? If it's the latter, then you may not notice any change as the data-rate supported by 802.11G may well exceed that available from your ADSL connection.

      • At the moment Im only using Wifi with laptop, smartphones and Apple TV to stream online movies onto my tv.

  • thanks guys

    Yeh to add more info

Im on a Dodo unlimited plan ADSL2

im averaging 5 to 6mbps download on OOKLA speed test

doh and its $259 not $199

    • You probably won't get much more raw internet speed by upgrading your modem/router. The distance from your house to the exchange and the quality of your line are the limiting factors unfortunately. Different brands of modem might change your connection speed by 10-20% max. Note that the change might not always be upwards either!

Where you might see improvements is in downloading torrents (newer routers will better handle lots of connections), and the speed between devices within your local network.

  • This must of expired. Was $199 last night, was going to purchase this morning.
    Hopefully rep re-instates.

    • +1 Missed out too

How did I miss this deal twice!?

Deal was only up for 9-10 hours!? :(

    • +1

I verbally just said "DAMNIT!" for the same reason.

      Twice now…

(post below suggests this was a pricing error)

      • I'll remain on the hunt.. Thanks mate :(

  • I just setup my D9 set up a couple days ago from the last special from wireless1, loving it.

Internet is flying! Although I have nothing to compare it to at this address, and the D7 would have probably been sufficient…Still to cheap to resist, and the D9 upright style is better in my opinion.

  • Contacted Wireless1, They said it was a price error =\

  • So just to confirm is the deal really finished? Just missed the site for few hours and send like the deal is off as the price is back to $259/- unless expected to use some code?

  • Got mine today. All set up and no more network sync issues.

  • +1

hope the deal comes back again :(

  • I am waiting for the deal as well… Checking back every day hoping to catch it :(

  • +1

I too am waiting for a deal on D9.
