Virgin Australia have just released some cheap fares to Dallas. Not exactly sure why but these are even cheaper than our fares to LAX despite flying through LAX.

Of course, don't forget to check with your favourite travel agent as they may have cheaper fares.

Travel dates:
07JUL15-04SEP15
06OCT15-10DEC15
17JAN16-31MAR16

Prices might vary by a few dollars depending on departure city and date. The $1074 price was taken from a search of Sydney-Dallas in July/Aug. Flights on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday will be about $50 cheaper each way compared to Friday, Saturday, Sunday flights.

Don't forget to join Velocity or input your membership number to earn points.

Please note: I am not an official rep for Virgin Australia, I just happen to work there. For any questions, changes/cancellation of bookings, seat requests, etc. please contact Virgin via the website or on 136789.

Let me quote his rant here:

"You cannot search the cheapest airfares to USA at Xmas online (THEY ARE NOT THERE) Only an agent has access to them !!!

This is what I keep saying, but you're not listening.

$1399 BNE/LAX on Qantas 31DEC, back 23JAN (yes we only have a few, but more at $1499, & $1699) bla bla bla"

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/183670

"We guarantee, that you won't be able to get cheaper on any of our fares for same dates, at online search engines!"

      God - he's giving me a headache!

      • -4

yes & that still holds true. What don't you understand ?

        • +6

Hmmm - I thought you're getting busier and inundated with calls and emails from your prospective clients? How come you're always online during work hours lol?

Dear OZBargainers, don't forget Travelwiz golden rules:

"A price without a booking is meaningless and many people stupidly believe, if an airfare is found at an online search engine, it must be cheapest."

Remember people, no one can beat him when boooking within his magic December/January specific dates.

        • -2

@Gorodemon: so you now understand !!!

You must have a booking or price is totally meaningless. I bet agents are undercutting these deals right now.

Agents might also be cornering the market, ie. book them & then do a name change before they ticket. Not strictly allowed, but think quite a few do it.

        • -1

@Gorodemon: busy as … on hold to airline as we speak.

So notice no one has tried to challenge our deals or get even close.

        • +1

          @travelwiz: deal*

    • +2

While the prices in title aren't available over Xmas/New Year, the prices over Xmas/New Year have been reduced and are cheaper than what travelwiz has been boasting.

I'm seeing AU$1481 for all dates over Xmas/New Year SYD-LAX and AU$1513 for BNE-LAX. Both with Virgin.
For Sydney: OneTravel, For Brisbane: CheapoAir

Haha, from now on, every flight deal to the US now must include an obligatory reference to travelwiz!! :D

  • Not exactly sure why but these are even cheaper than our fares to LAX despite flying through LAX.

Just take carry on luggage and not board the next leg for a cheap flight to LA

    • +5

If you fail to board for a flight you will lose the remainder of your ticket. You would be better off booking it as a multi-city trip with a long stopover in LAX and just a day trip LAX-DFW in the middle.

      • +2

According to the fare rules for this (Fare basis is TLE0ZSBF from what I can see) you're allowed one stopover free, and one for $100, so if you do a 'day trip' to DFW, and then 'stopover' in LAX again, you'll need to add $100 to this.

Connections are on DL and VX from what I can see (permitted routing at least) as well as up to SEA and down to DFW with AS.

And a day trip to DFW would be a killer; 8:45am departure (if doing the direct on DL) returning around 5:30pm. In DL coach, i'd definitely not do it.

Must be purchased/ticketd by February 28 too.

Having been to DFW, i'd recommend spending some time there. Also, get to Austin too if you can :)

      • Thanks for the post OP. How do you book a US multi-city trip online if the multi-city option only shows the domestic network? or is it not possible and we have to find a travel agent.

        • +2

You can book through the call centre on 136789. They should waive the booking fee since it is an itinerary that can't be booked online. Any good travel agent should be able to do it for you too.

        • +1

Search for MEL/SYD/BNE to DFW on the website. They come up automatically (including your connections). If you want stopovers, you'll need to see a Travel Agent or talk to Virgin. There is no multi-city international at present online.

        • @donga100:
Sure can be booked online. I've found it by doing the search mentioned. TOTAL: $ 1098.81 for MEL-BNE-LAX-DFW-LAX-SYD-MEL with random dates outbound in July and back in August.

Of course, don't forget to check with your favourite travel agent as they may have cheaper fares.

    Hah ;) Well done.

    • -8

yes probably will. Or are you saying virgin is trying to cut out agents.

Bestjet currently had ads on TV saying CHEAPER THAN BOOKING WITH AIRLINES DIRECT, NO BOOKING FEE, NO CREDTI CARD FEE.

      • +3

How to win friends and influence people…

  • +4

Very nice deal. Thank you Donga.

  • +3

entertainment card holders, don't forget you have 5% off virgin gift vouchers. will bring this down to $1020.3. takes about 2 working days to get emailed the voucher so do this at your own risk.

you can use your CC to buy the voucher (so you get points), and there is no booking fee as long as voucher value >= flight cost

Good to see Virgin challenging Qantas' monopoly on Dallas route. Its one of key routes for Qantas and they use much nicer A380 flights.

  • +4

Dallas Flyers Club. It pays to go by air, so as to avoid the pirates.

  • +8

+1 cos Travelwiz can't beat that price.

  • there's a lot of US deals of late, seems like the US flight route are slowing down with the dollar dropping, the airlines must be desperate to keep them going

    • The falling Aussie dollar works both ways. It makes the USA less attractive for Australians but it makes Australia more attractive for Americans.

      • true

  • Would this price also hold for a direct LAX return flight or do you have to book through to Dallas?

Is there anything stopping you booking through to Dallas but using this as a return flight to LAX?
I suppose they'd have to check baggage all the way through to dallas?

    • Do you have to check it all the way through?
I just want the LAX portion for this price.
Why is it cheaper to get an extra flight? arg.

      • See this comment. You will need to go to Dallas but you can stop in LAX.

        • Ah I see. Kinda frustrating.

        • +1

          @Budmiester:
I was able to book a multi trip from BNE to DFW then return LAX to BNE for $1040pp. I was going to NOLA anyway, and this way we don't need to backtrack to DFW.
          Thanks for the deal!

  • Seriously wondering, what's at Dallas worth visiting? Or is it stepping stone for the rest of the US?

    • +1

Access to east coast without going through LAX if flying Qantas. I prefer Virgin product to QAntas but defeats the purpose of going to Dallas if you have to go through LAX anyway.

      • +1

I went to NYC via LAX, totally understand wanting avoid LAX.

    • Getting to NY via Dallas is a lot less painful than LAX.

  • I can't search the Jan-Mar dates :(

    • +1

Yes, flights are usually released only 330 days in advance.

      • then how long is this offer for? appears to be for months until the one can select march dates

        • +1

Sorry for the confusion. Those dates represent the low season for airfares to USA which this deal applies to. However, the full range may not become available before the sale expires.

  • +1

I wonder how many more reported posts will see travelwiz go bye bye :)

    • +4

      In the penalty box now…

      Great deal, Donga.

Come on folks; this thread is about Donga's deal; not the Travelwiz stuff. Please just let that die a natural death and we'll all move on.
