Microsoft Office 365 Subscription Free for Schools, Unis, Teachers and Students

3080

Microsoft Office for students and staff has always been discounted and occasionally free, however it's usually a bit of a hassle. Office 365 is now available for students and teachers directly from the Microsoft website.

From what I can see the free subscription allows MS Office to be installed on 5 devices, which is pretty generous.

I tested my School email address (I'm a teacher), my uni email address and my daughter's school email address and they all worked.

I can confirm this is working for a large number of Australian education providers including schools, TAFE’s and Universities.

An Office 365 subscription includes the Office 2013 apps for PC and Mac (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Outlook, Access and Publisher) as well as 1 TB of OneDrive Storage and access to Office Web Apps.

Enjoy :)

We can't finish signing you up.

Your IT department has turned off signup for Office 365 Education. Contact them to complete signup.

    :(

  • not working for me blablabla @tafensw.net.au

    • maybe because its @tafensw.edu.au ;-)

  • +1

    Works for @alumni.adelaide.edu.au :-)

    • didn't know we could get an alumni address! Was previously trying with @student.adelaide.edu.au but couldn't get it to work.

p.s. graduated from UoA? Get your alumni address here!

  • I tried my @education.wa.edu.au and it didn't like it, but for others who work for the Department of Education in WA, there's a software licensing program already in place that's really damn good.

It has $15 Windows 8 Pro licenses, $15 Office 2013 Pro Plus licenses, etc. You can only order 1 of each in the lifetime of your account as far as I know however it's a really neato system for good, cheap, software licenses.

Thank you for sharing the link. Sharing the UserId and Password will be the true OzBargainner spirit ;)

      • That link is only for people who work at DOE.

  • Works for UTS :D

  • whats diff between office and office 365?

    • Office is for lifetime, Office 365 is a subscription service for 365 days.

  • finally it works for curtin. thanks!

  • +4

does it work for udemy ?

    • lol

    • Good one! Better Coursera.

  • Thanks, works for Curtin Uni.

    • May I please know which email address you used. I tried my one ending with @student.curtin.edu.au with no go

      • Make sure you use your student number (not name) as the username - e.g. 12345678@@student.curtin.edu.au.

        • Thanks alot, I'll give it a go

        • @praga:

Not sure if you got it working, but looks like this has been revoked by Curtin (i.e. no longer works for me).

So, when is OzB going to register a EDU.AU domain for paying members to get an eMail address under?

Works for Flinders Uni, but you have to use [email protected]

    • Now works for Flinders Uni, where it didn't work last semester. Proviso: "Support for home computers is not provided", which means you can install it but they won't help you.

Also the short link for Flinders is http://bit.ly/flinoffice365

  • Is it possible to link this with your standard Microsoft Account? Hate to start all over again uploading and transferring my uni stuff between OneDrive accounts…

    • would love to, but don't think so

    • Yes, after install if you open up word (or whatever) up the top right you can 'switch accounts'.
I originally downloaded it using my girlfriends school email. After install I switched accounts to my Microsoft account where all my other stuff is!
      Happy days!

  • Works for UTS. Thanks for sharing :-)

    Works for UWA.

This is new, didnt think they gave us anything for free!

  • This worked for my school's *.wa.edu.au domain but not for my WA DoE address. I know the school hasn't purchased any subscription model directly so at least in this case it has nothing to do with any purchase. The DoE email came back saying 365 is not switched on like others above.

Thanks! Confirmed working with my <studentid>@postmaster.csu.edu.au account.

I had been paying the monthly fee, solely for accessing uni course material.

    • It worked? Oh yeah it worked! Didn't think we had an .edu email before. Thanks both op

  • Didnt work using my CQU email address.

  • Cheers - works for Griffith University!

Get the email fine (Adelaide uni email) but when I click the link to input details, get this error.

    "Sorry, that didn't work

There's a problem on our end. We're working on it, so try again later."

    Any Ideas?

  • Thanks! Graduated from RMIT last year and my old student email worked like a charm!

  • UNSW has disabled installations :|

    Only outlook works.

    • +1

Edit: It takes a while but it loads office, doesn't let you download an installer though.

The administrator has disabled Office installations. Contact your administrator for information about how to install Office.

  • Will the Office installed expiry after 1 year?

    • I believe so - Office 365 (365 days=1 year)

  • Just bought the University version 3 weeks ago from online store at $99 for 5 years subscription.
Called their service centre and was told that they do not do refund after 2 weeks!

  • My girlfriend is a teacher, used her school email and my own password.

It said "setting up" and did for 20 minutes and i tried it 2 more times and STILL did not work.
3rd time it worked and went right through to a install page.

Installed fine - after installation you can open up word (or what ever) and login with a different email address. I used my Microsoft account that is link with XBOX and it uses your own "cloud" storage opposed to the original email (my girlfriends school email).

So good news! If your friends are students or teachers and they already have office. You can use their email!!
Also installs on upto 5 devices, so you can probably share too.

Now thats being a true tightass :)… i mean OzBargainer :P

  • Great deal for students - means you can get the full versions of Office on iPad/tablets!

  • Works for my son's catholic school in Cairns

For Sydney Uni grads I found it would only work with the old [email protected] format, I couldn't get it to work with [email protected]

  • Doesn't seem like it work for UQ login as well

  • cool deal worked with my highschool email - nice thanks.

  • My Griffith still works even after finishing 3 years ago. Yippeee

  • … deleted because moved to a related comment

  • Strange question but do these types of deal work for OTEN students?.

  • yes please

  • I reformatted my computer and decided to reinstall office 365 today when I went through the normal channels to do so it no longer lets me.

    I'm a teacher in SA.

Anyone else having any problems with it?
Or know anyway to fix it?

    Thanks.

  • Are you sure this is free for schools? I had my school signed up to the free Office 365 Education E1 but that does not include any Office apps except OneNote which is free anyway. To get Office you need Office 365 Education E3 which is $3.20/user/month, far from being free.

    • It's separate to the E licences. In your O365 licences screen where you normally see your E1/E2/E3 licences, it'll be listed as "Office 365 Education for Students".

      With that you get:

      Yammer for Academic
      Office Online for Education
      SharePoint Plan 1 for EDU
      Exchange Online (Plan 1)
      Office 365 ProPlus
Skype for Business Online (Plan 2)

    • I signed up for it a while back and it worked with no problem.

Now it says my IT department has turned it off.

  • Works for Edith Cowan Uni now as well, can confirm :)

  • Has anyone been able to upgrade to Office 2016 yet using this subscription ?

  • Doesnt work for my daughters school :/ Bloody need office aswell
