    very nice

  • +2

    extremely nice

  • How to use this? buy a sim card from their website or anywhere? and then activate the code online? :x

    • +1

Buy from their website only! Make sure new account purchase!

  • Too nice!

  • Seems great, could this be used with referrals too ? :D

    • +1

The previous $20 deals could be. BTW, your PM function is off.

  • This is just a prepaid Sim only right? Which I can leave after the first month?

  • +1

when should I activate it by?

  • -3

The only thing I dislike about Amaysim is if you run out of 5GB you have to wait for next payment cycle otherwise purchase data packs 1GB starting from $9.95.

Moving over to Lebara/Telstra very shortly although good deal if you don't go over 5GB and have 2 kids watching YouTube most of the time to keep the peace during outings!

    • +2

Just left lebara. Sick of their terrible signal range (range is not the same as telstra!)

      • +2

It wont be same as Telstra, lebara uses Vodafon network.

        • ah, yes, that's right. there are several other things i hated about lebara too. now doing the telstra thing with two sim slots

    • +3

Not sure what the gripe is about. What would you like to happen when you run out of the 5GB?

1GB for $9.95 is actually quite a competitive price for additional mobile data if you look at all the other offerings out there.

  • When will they have 4G?

    • Some time mid this year IIRC, however it will be on new plans (presumably costing some amount more then their current $44.90/5GB plan)

      • +1

So, quit, start again with them?

I dunno, $45/month is getting up there for me when I don't use all the data as is. They (and Aldi) have basically cut their mid range plans though. It's either a very bare bones offer or more than a lot of people need.

      • +1

April. I think it has been stated a few times also on their Facebook. I also talked to someone from their marketing team last week & confirmed that.

  • +5

can i quit after the first month?

  • +12

I just ported to Amaysim from Voda this month due to their recent promotion for the same package deal for $ 20 the first month. I must say I am VERY disappointed with the network performance. I am aware that they don't have 4G yet (they said it's coming soon to their network) however it's quite difficult to even get a stable 3G connection.

I take trains to the city and during my journeys, I usually watch Youtube videos on my mobile. I was quite happy with Vodafone's network performance even though they still have a few blank spots throughout my train journey. However, Amaysim's network is even worse as I get a lot of 2G connection (signals showing as E on my iPhone5) and only some 3G. It's unbearable to watch any video on the train during my commuting.

I will be porting back to Voda next month as they are willing to give $ 5 off for new customers on $ 50 SIM BYO plan. What is the point of having 5 Gb of data when you can't even get a stable 3G connection? What's the point of having a big bucket of water to drink but you're only given a small straw to use???

    • +4

Small straw? More like a postage-stamp sized sponge.

    • +3

      +1 just for the analogy

    • +4

Optus 3G is fairly weak at least from my experience, that's why 4G is really quite important if you're on Optus.

    • +2

Sucks you've had a bad experience but I'm on amaysim and I get awesome conncetion practically everywhere on iPhone 5.
Was on South Stradbroke the other week and was working great inside the resort room while my partners Boost sim was struggling (iPhone5 aswell)

    • I also ported from Voda in Jan and have experienced the exact same issues as Gorodemon. I'm a train traveler in Melb and the service is almost unusable.
I will wait for 4G to turn on before decided whether to stay.

      Also, no Visual Voicemail anyone!!

    • +1

It really depends on the areas. In my area I found Voda > Telstra >Optus, even compare with Voda 3.5G against 4G from Telstra and Optus.

  • What network is amaysim using, is it Optus? In stuck on a Optus plan if this card has the same network the $10 deal looks very appealing.

    • Yeah Optus.

  • You pay:$10 for 1st month then $44.90 auto-renews every 30 day ??????

    • Yes that's right

    • Auto-renews if you don't cancel before hand

    • you can turn off auto renew (it's on their website.. my account) - I did this and it shows my plan will be switching to as-you-go after the 30 days expire

      • which could potentially be disastrous. 5c/mb on pay as you go. Download 1gb and you'll be up for $50. DOwnload 10gb and that's $500. Looks like these are actual plans and not prepaid. SO gotta set in my calendar to cancel the sim before I go over.

  • Aren't these guys oversubscribed on the floptus network?

  • Can someone confirm if the sim is activated at the time of ordering and paying online, or when you activate it yourself after receiving after you get it in the mail, possibly before March the 22nd?? Also does the $10 friends referral work for this?? Unless I dig through the fine print in the T & C or go through the ordering process, I won't know for sure, have been caught before. Cheers for anyone who can shed some light on this.

    • Activated online, once you receive the sim card. I'm sure there's some leeway on activating after 22nd march, but I'm not sure how long. For example, if you order on 22nd March, receive sim card on Mar 25 and activate on March 27, it should be fine.

Yes - referral credits seem to be working. At least it showed me the credit at check out. I don't see it on my account yet.

      • Thanks for the prompt assistance. So, just to clarify, if I order and pay online for a sim say on the 15th of March next week, say I get sim delivered to me on the 20th or around there, when would my sim have been activated? What date would the 30 days credit run out??

        • When you activate it on the website, after receiving it.

          :)

        • @Benjamin7711:
Great news, Thanks. Yeah, that would make sense, but with the Telcos, you never know how sneaky they try to get.

  • Can I ask ozBargainers why is this such a good deal if you could only use it for a month and need to pay >$40 after? Just couldn't think of a situation where this might come in handy…

    • Just use it for one month and then drop the sim card :D (lot of data and free call/text)

    • switch to $15 Telstra starter after and switch back if they have another deal. just go back and forth. shouldn't need to pay more then $20 a month ever!

      • Is it easy to switch to telstra? Do you have to call them and give them your details each time? Is it easy to cancel each one when finished?

        • You used to, but they've changed it so you can just do it on their website now.
So take about 20mins to switch back and forth, i use the vodafone $1 sim from their website, change to voda is even faster at times.

Just be sure you details are correct.

        • @huntress_love:

Cool. Thanks so much for the info.

    • In addition to crazy OzBargainers who change their provider every month, it could be good if you have an international guest, or if you know you will be using a lot of data (e.g. if you will be moving, and will need to set up ADSL).

    • I have a friend from overseas coming for a week early next month. This is an extremely cheap way for him to have a peace of mind whilst using mobile data, calls etc. knowing that it is "unlimited". 5GB for a week is absolutely plenty…

    • I just moved house and need internet for the 10 business days it takes to install broadband at the new house. The alternative is telstra prepaid which at best is $15 for 2gb with starter kit or $30 for 2gb if you use recharge (I did a $15 recharge for 1gb cos I ran out and needed the data back straight away)

      • Best effective option is vodafone IMO. Uncharged data weekends to replace fixed usage; 10gb, 20gb and do with as I wish. Bit of a novelty for mobile perhaps but better than price fixing Telstra-&ptus.

  • +12

I'll stick this little warning about Amaysim here as I personally think they should be boycotted from Ozbargain.

Have a look at how they count their data.

The minimum amount of quota taken for a data session is 1 Mb.
The minimum amount of quota taken for just about every other provider is 1 Kb.

For those that don't know 1 Mb is 1024Kb. So for a data session you get charged a minimum of 1023Kb more on Amaysim than with any other provider.

We don't really have control over data sessions. Yes we can turn data on an off, but the amount of data sessions that occur while the data is turned on is determined by how many towers are around you and how strong the signals from those towers are. A data session stops and starts everytime your phone switches towers. So if you are in an area where your phone is switching towers a lot, everytime it does you will more than likely be charged 1024Kb, even if you used 1Kb.

This adds up over time. My experience with Amaysims data was that I got around 3.2 GB (according to my phone) for 4.8 GB of Amaysim data. Conversely after switching to Vodafone my phone and Vodafone's usage tracked pretty much on par with each other.

Amaysim isn't a bargain. It cannot be compared to other 5 GB plans.

Be aware of what you are paying for.

  • Fudge! I just signed up 2 nites ago on a $20 promo for 1st mth…the SIM card still hasn't arrived…I am gonna try call up to ask for this offer instead!

  • Will cashback rewards work with this promo?

    • You need to be on the plan for at least three months

  • I rang up and went through a record-breaking number of menus to talk to someone, waited 15 minutes, lady didn't know much about when it needs to be activated by. T&Cs below. She had no idea and neither do I. Also says you can buy from retail outlet? Overseas calls are charged on top as extras.

I was able to activate an unlimited sim I bought in Aug last year this Jan. If delaying activation don't use the website as they need to make some manual changes to your plan. Just chat or call up instead.

    • +1

I just did a live chat. Was told there's no deadline/expiry for activation.

Me: Hi just want to check about the current $10 first month promo on the unlimited plan.
Is there a deadline/expiry to activating the cards?

Them: no you can activate it later :)
if you order it online and get it sent out to you and delay the activation thats fine
but the payment has to be done this month if the payment isnt made in this month it would be void

Me: You mean the initial $10 payment yeah? I don't have a need for this until May, so want to order it now (this month) and activate it in may.

      Them: yep thats fine

  • What is the process to get referral credit?
Do I just activate using the referral link once I have received the sim card? Thanks

    • Do I just activate using the referral link once I have received the sim card?

No, you should start with a fresh browser session (+ maybe clear amaysim cookies) and navigate to the amaysim site by clicking a referral link.

I just tried my referral link and it took me directly to a page featuring this $10 promotion (UNL10).

      • Yeah it took me to the same page and then I clicked on 'view all plans' and completed the purchase. Would I get referral credit?

  • I've already ordered but customer service will still give me the referral bonus if I give them a customers full name & the email attached to their account within 24 hours, I might need phone number but she didn't say that so if anyone wants to earn a free $10 credit PM me your info!!
1st in will get the referral!

$10 CREDIT FOR REFERRAL INFO! HURRY PM ME!!

As above. when you take tower flickering 1024kB losses to account. Scarcely more incl than Voda (1kB) 4G/3GB:- recharged via woolworths to April 21 50.00 -$10 /..

    • Neg ? Review merely finds areas to improve in - nothing more:)
      Time to lift game ><.

  • Hmmm, can I get this for use in an iPad?

  • I think lyca deal (link below) is better than Amaysim one unless you want to stick to Amaysim only for first month.

    http://www.lycamobile.com.au/en/super-saver-plan

Or am I missing something ?

    • Users have reported Lyca have rerouted all internet traffic to the UK… so data is slow.

  • I have three mobile services in the family that I'm looking to port out from LiveConnected. I know the T&C's for this $10 promo says one per person, but is there any possibility of getting this deal for all three services?

  • +1

Yes you can get it for new service. I already had 2 numbers on amaysim but ported in 3rd one with this deal. Just signup a new id instead of logging in with old one and attaching the service with old account. Your new number becomes your username. You can keep same email across multiple services.

    • Hey thanks for the reply. I can see why it would work on yours since technically you only used the promo once.

In my case though, I guess it would be a little different, as I want to bring across three numbers at the same time and hopefully have the promo apply for all three services. My hangup is that even if I sign up on three separate accounts, I'm not sure they'd allow all three to be signed up for $10 for the first month, since the T&Cs say one per customer, not one per account?

  • +1

Give it a try. If you are able to purchase. It will work. Otherwise it will say so while signing up.

    • Good point, I'll give it a go soon. Thanks for the replies! :)

  • IS that any expired date to activate the simcard for this deal?

    • the sim card sent to you is already activated~ the only way u can avoid it is by saying it got delayed in the mail by 1-4 weeks and they will restart your cycle for you :)

  • I forgot to sign up using the referral - anyone want to PM me their full name and email address to get $10 credit?
